Chapter 200 John’s Long Journey to Win Back His Wife

Lending money to Aurora was like tossing cash into a black hole. Lori shook her head hard. "Nope, no money left. I blew it all on a house abroad a few days ago."

"Come on, Lori, that's not cool." Aurora grinned, placing a hand on Lori's shoulder. "I'll pay you interest, it's not a freebie."

Lori rolled her eyes. "Weren't you just splurging on clothes and bags yesterday?"

"Yeah, so I spent it all." Aurora shrugged. "Good thing White Group still makes money every month, or I'd be broke too."

Once White Group was run by hired pros, it started making money every month, so Aurora stopped worrying about it.

"Why not ask John? He's loaded; he won't even notice," Lori suggested.

"I broke up with him. Using his money would be too awkward." Aurora laughed. "Come on, Lori, just lend me ten million."

She turned to Hank and asked, "Is ten million enough?"

Hank quickly did the math. "Yeah, it's enough."

"Uncle Bobcat, are you and Aurora trying to rob me? Ten million just to move some goods?"  Loriexclaimed in shock.

Hank mimicked Aurora's tone. "Wolfpack can't come up with the cash right now. The financial hole is getting bigger. Ten million might not even cover it."

Hearing this, Lori sighed, "Fine, I'll lend you ten million, but that's it."

Aurora grinned. "Thanks."

With the money, they could hire people.

Aurora had Hank take the cash to the job market, hiring anyone willing to move goods, no matter their age or gender. To make sure the goods were delivered on time, Aurora personally supervised at the dock.

Cleaning up Wolfpack wasn't that hard; the key was having enough money. In this world, if you had enough money, you could get ninety percent of things done.

Sitting at a dockside café, Aurora ordered a juice and a cake. She leisurely ate while organizing Wolfpack's financial records and business data from the past few years.

Lori and Ava were overseeing the loading on the ship.

Hank was dealing with the buyers.

Just as Aurora was checking info on her computer, a man's voice suddenly sounded above her. "Aurora?"

Aurora looked up to see a chubby, slightly balding guy who looked a bit sleazy standing in front of her.

"Who are you?" Aurora couldn't immediately place him.

"It's me, Paul Locke. We were in the same class in college. Don't you remember? I even wrote you a love letter."

"Sorry, I've gotten too many love letters to remember them all."

Paul laughed. "Aurora, you're as funny as ever, but you've changed a lot. You're even more beautiful and charming now."

Aurora gave an awkward laugh. "You've changed a lot too. You must be doing well, gaining quite a bit of weight."

Paul blushed a bit. In front of his former crush, he now looked like a middle-aged man before thirty, losing much of his hair.

"I've been through a lot these past few years. By the way, I work at CloudVista Technologies now. I've been promoted to supervisor, earning a million a year. Not bad, right? What about you?" When it came to his job, Paul's tone had a hint of bragging.

Though his appearance was disappointing, he didn't want to let his former crush down in terms of career.

"I'm currently unemployed." Aurora's words were half-true. She was the behind-the-scenes owner of White Group and didn't need to be hands-on. So, she was technically unemployed.

As for taking over Wolfpack, Aurora naturally wouldn't mention it, and others wouldn't believe it anyway.

Paul sat down opposite Aurora, looking very enthusiastic. "So, what brings you here?"

"Traveling."

Paul asked, "Are you married?"

"No."

In just a few words, Paul pieced together Aurora's situation: unemployed, no boyfriend, traveling solo. She wasn't wearing any brand-name clothes, probably on a budget trip. Looked like his old crush wasn't doing so hot.

Thinking this, Paul felt even more satisfied.

Most guys didn't like women who were stronger than them. Women who were pretty but not too capable were often the most popular and easiest to control.

Paul smiled, trying to be all gentlemanly. "Aurora, running into you after all these years must be fate. We shouldn't waste it. I'm single too. How about we give it a shot?"

Aurora was stunned and looked at Paul like he was joking. "Are you serious? You used to look decent, and I still didn't like you. Now that you've gone from a promising young guy to a middle-aged man, do you think I'd like you now?"

Aurora's blunt words made Paul feel awkward. He said, "I've been busy with work and neglected my appearance. But those are just superficial things. Aurora, I know you're not one to dwell on superficialities."

Aurora, with one hand on her computer and the other supporting her chin, shrugged. "That's because you don't know me well. I am one to dwell on superficialities."

"If you're not satisfied, I can lose weight," Paul said, knowing he had no advantage in looks. "By the way, I bought a house in the city, worth over three million. And you see that car at the entrance? It's mine."

Aurora glanced at the car. It was just a car worth over three hundred thousand. She knew exactly what Paul was up to. As he sat down, he deliberately placed the car keys on the table, making sure everyone noticed.

Paul was trying to show off his wealth.

Aurora was about to speak when a bunch of luxury car keys were thrown on the table from behind. A familiar male voice made her pause. "She wouldn't be interested in you."

Aurora immediately turned around and saw John standing beside her. She was too shocked to speak.

When did John get here?

How did she not notice?

John stood there in a dark gray coat with a light-colored scarf, exuding the unmistakable aura of wealth. He completely overshadowed Paul.

Paul glanced at him, feeling the intensity of John's intimidating gaze. It was enough to make anyone uneasy. With his many years in the workplace and his skill in reading people, Paul could tell this guy was no ordinary person.

But in front of his old crush, Paul tried to keep his cool. "Aurora, who is this?"

Aurora didn't even look at John and said with a smile, "A Uber driver, ignore him. Let's continue our conversation."

Aurora was still mad at John.

Paul, hearing this, breathed a sigh of relief. "So, he's just a driver."

No wonder he had so many car keys. Who would carry so many keys around? Clearly, it was just for show.

Thinking this, Paul felt that John's intimidating aura was just a facade.

Aurora, holding her face, smiled at Paul and suddenly said enthusiastically, "By the way, I still have the love letter you wrote me back then."

"Really?" Paul was overjoyed, thinking his display of wealth had impressed Aurora. "Aurora, life is short. I left Silver Crest City after graduation, and now meeting you here is the best arrangement by fate."

"I think so too, fate's arrangement." Aurora said. "Let's exchange contact info and keep in touch. We can go out for coffee."

"Sure." Paul eagerly gave his phone number to Aurora.

They exchanged contact info, completely ignoring John.

John wanted to carry Aurora away, but he didn't dare. He was here to apologize. If he offended her again, there would be no chance for reconciliation.
