Chapter 384 Bury the Secret in Your Heart
John was genuinely surprised by the result.
Aurora also fell into deep thought, "All three cars had it, how could it be such a coincidence?"
This definitely wasn't a coincidence; someone did it on purpose.
John pondered for a moment, "Aurora, you go to sleep first, I need to go out for a bit."
"It's so late, what are you going?"
"I'll be back soon." John kissed her on the forehead, didn't explain further, and left.
It was drizzling outside, and Aurora stood on the balcony watching him leave.
Sam was driving, John sat in the back seat as the car quickly disappeared into the rainy night.
"Head to the fire scene." John instructed.
"Yes, Mr. Lewis." Sam drove directly towards the hotel, "Mr. Lewis, should we keep looking into the gasoline? Do you think it could it be Mrs. Lewis's biological father..."
John interrupted Sam, "Let's go check the scene again."
"Understood!"
It was no wonder Sam would think that way; Sandra was Alexander's biological daughter, so it wasn't impossible for Alexander to help.
John arrived at the hotel.
Allan was still there, he had come back to inspect the scene again.
The hotel room was charred black, and several adjacent rooms were also damaged.
The air was thick with the smell of smoke, Sandra's body had been taken away by the police, and the house was burned down to just a frame, with nothing much left to inspect.
Allan asked John, "Did you find something new?"
"No." John didn't tell Allan about the gasoline found in the three cars, after all, their roles were different. If Allan knew, he would definitely take people back for questioning.
John wdidn't want to tip off the enemy.
John checked the room, his gaze finally fixed on the floor, where there was an imprint left by Sandra's body.
After the body was taken away, it left a mark on the floor.
Allan saw John staring at the floor, "I've been thinking over your previous words and found something."
Allan was not talking to John as a police officer but as a friend.
John raised an eyebrow, "What did you find?"
Allan spoke, "It seemed like Sandra was determined to die, she set the fire so decisively, but there's a contradiction. Before she died, she called out to Jack for help, which means she was afraid of dying and didn't want to die."
"Jack?" Something clicked in John's mind.
Sam, standing nearby, spoke up, "Mr. Lewis, we found gasoline..."
Sam wanted to mention the gasoline in the car Dean and Jack were in.
John shot him a look, and Sam quickly changed his words, "We found the gasoline came from a nearby gas station, which might help identify Sandra's accomplice."
Allan's attention shifted to Sam's latter words, "Which gas station nearby?"
"The one on Cedar Lane."
John suggested, "Mr. Jennings, you can take people to check it out."
"Alright!" Allan agreed, "I'll go check it out myself."
After sending Allan away, John went outside, pulled out his contacts, found Lori's number, and called her.
Lori had just finished working out and was about to shower and sleep. She was quite surprised to receive John's call.
"John, what's up in the middle of the night?"
"Aurora told me earlier that before the incident, you smelled gasoline. Where did you find it?"
This was crucial.
"In the backyard of the hotel. At that time, I was trying to hide..."
Lori realized she almost let something slip and changed her words, "I mean, I was just getting some air in the backyard and suddenly smelled gasoline. I'm sure I wasn't mistaken. Jack was there too, but he's not only face-blind, his sense of smell isn't great either. The smell was so strong, yet he said he didn't smell it."
Jack again.
"Alright, got it." John hung up after asking.
On the other end, Lori muttered, "Typical. Use someone and then discard them. He didn't even say thank you. Sure enough, being around Aurora for too long, he's become just like her."
Ava walked over with a plate of fruit, "Talking bad about Aurora behind her back? You better watch out, she might give you trouble later."
Lori shivered, "Aurora isn't here, Ava, you won't sell me out, right?"
"Here, have some fruit, it's good for your skin." Ava placed the fruit in front of Lori.
"Ava, why are you into skincare now? With our looks, do we really need this?"
Despite her words, Lori quickly ate a few blueberries.
Ava didn't want to trase Lori and changed the topic, "What did John want?"
"He was asking about the gasoline. I think Nightfall might have a mole. The hotel was like a fortress, yet Sandra managed to bring in gasoline." Lori spoke while eating fruit, "I seriously suspect this has something to do with Alexander. Sandra was his daughter."
Ava added, "Aurora is also his daughter."
"That's different. Not all fingers are the same length. Look at the wedding, Alexander fought with Wendy. Those two don't get along, it's normal for Alexander to be biased."
Ava picked a cherry, "You and Todd used to fight all the time, but now you two..."
"Oh my god, Ava, why are you bringing me into this again?" Lori covered her face, "I can't explain it."
Ava laughed and shrugged innocently, "I'm just stating the facts."
Lori stood up, "Anyway, Sandra is dead, you're free, and Aurora is safe. I don't care about the rest. It's rare to have some free time. Ava, let's go on vacation. The beach is perfect this season. Yep, it's decided, we'll buy tickets for tomorrow."
Ava added, "Remember the flight to Moscow was sold out before? If someone knows you want to escape, the flight might be sold out again."
Lori had planned to use the vacation as an excuse to escape. The world is big, Todd wouldn't be able to find her.
Her little plan was exposed by Ava, Lori rubbed her nose, "Keep it a secret."
After hanging up, John called Todd to ask about everyone's reactions when Sandra set the fire.
Todd recalled, "Lori was the most agitated, insisting on going in to save Aurora. Alexander scolded Sandra, Dean was scared and worried about Aurora, and Jack, disregarding the danger, tried to rush in, which made Sandra to light the fire."
Todd described the scene.
Everyone was worried about Aurora and thought she was inside.
After these two calls, John fell into deep thought again.
Jack had told him that Aurora asked him to go to the lounge.
However, Aurora never said that.
Sam, who had been with John for a long time, was also deep in thought.
"Mr. Lewis, could it be Jack?"
"Sam, go back to The Lewis Villa."
"Mr. Lewis..."
"Go back."
"Yes."
The car returned to The Lewis Villa, it was already late at night.
Aurora was still awake, talking on the phone with Jack, "Jack, you need to rest. I'll have Mr. Collins check on you later. Once you're better, you can take over White Group, and I can take a break."
