Chapter 286 You're Not a Real Man
Todd tossed his phone onto the passenger seat, started the car, and floored the gas pedal, speeding away.
Meanwhile.
In a neighborhood in Silvercrest City, a murder case had been uncovered. The scene was cordoned off, and the police were conducting a thorough search for evidence near the artificial lake in the community.
The weather was a bit hot. Lori sat under a tree, holding a plump orange cat with shiny fur that felt great to touch.
Lori couldn't help but pet it a few more times. The orange cat was very arrogant, baring its teeth at Lori.
Lori threatened, "If you keep being fierce, I'll throw you into the water for a bath."
The orange cat seemed to understand and retracted its claws, obediently letting Lori stroke its fur.
Allan walked over. "Ms. Hernandez, this cat might belong to the victim. Let them take it back; it might provide some clues."
The victim was a young girl, around twenty years old; she was probably a student. When her body was found, it was already floating on the water's surface.
Lori handed the orange cat to Allan. She orginally thought it was a date, but Allan brought her to the crime scene to investigate.
This wasn't her strong suit; she was only good at fighting.
As soon as the orange cat was in Allan's arms, it started to struggle, its sharp claws scratching his skin. Allan instinctively let go, and the orange cat jumped back into Lori's arms.
Lori was stunned. She grabbed the orange cat by the neck and muttered, "Turns out you're a masochistic cat."
Allan looked at his scratched skin and said, "It seems this cat really likes Ms. Hernandez."
"It must be a male cat."
The one who said this was none other than Todd.
Lori and Allan instinctively turned to look. Todd stood elegantly under the tree, wearing a white shirt and dress pants, looking very pretentious, as if he were going to a party.
"Todd, what are you doing here?" Lori was very surprised.
"I'm here to see Allan." Todd walked towards Allan, playfully punching his solid chest. Then he teased, "You're really a busy man. Your chest is as hard as a rock. You must work out often; if someone bumps into you, they'd think they hit a rock."
Finding out Allan's whereabouts wasn't hard; a call to the station would do.
Allan unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his solid chest, and patted it. Then he said, "Hmm, it does seem a bit hard."
Todd was speechless. Was he showing off his pecs?
Todd instinctively touched his own chest. Compared to Allan, he did seem a bit scrawny.
Allan had the image of a tough guy, making Lori appear somewhat vulnerable in front of him.
Todd noticed Lori staring at Allan's pecs, almost drooling. He quickly buttoned Allan's shirt and said seriously, "Button up; don't catch a cold."
Todd was half a head shorter than Allan, and from their body types, Todd was also smaller. Todd buttoning Allan's shirt looked a bit suggestive.
Lori seemed to have discovered a big secret, her eyes widening in surprise. Could Todd and Allan be in that kind of relationship?
"Mr. Jennings, there's a discovery." A colleague called out.
Todd patted Allan's chest. "Go ahead."
As Allan turned to leave, Todd saw Lori's horrified and sympathetic look.
Todd was confused and asked, "What's wrong with you?"
Allan asked, " What's your relationship with Mr. Jennings?"
"What relationship? Do I need to tell you?" Todd had no idea what Lori was thinking and said, "Anyway, we're very intimate."
Todd meant brotherly intimacy.
But to Lori, it meant something else entirely.
"Did you know I was with Mr. Jennings and came here on purpose?"
Todd felt a bit embarrassed and didn't want Lori to misunderstand, so he said, "I came specifically to see Allan, not to..."
Todd didn't realize this made things worse.
Before he could finish, Lori sighed, patted Todd's shoulder, and generously said, "Don't worry. I won't break you two up. If you had told me Mr. Jennings was yours and you two were in that kind of relationship, I wouldn't have had any designs on him. Don't feel inferior; in today's society, everyone can accept it and will bless you. Actually, you two do make a good pair."
Todd realized what she meant and almost choked with anger.
He had no idea what Lori was thinking or what he said that made her misunderstand so deeply.
Just as Todd was about to explain, Lori curiously asked, "Who's the top and who's the bottom?"
Todd was at a loss for words for a moment.
"Don't be shy, just think of me as a sister," Lori said. "And don't be jealous, I genuinely didn't know Mr. Jennings was gay. Otherwise, I wouldn't have pursued him. Rest assured, there's nothing between us and there won't be in the future. I understand how difficult it can be for people like you to find a suitable partner..."
Then Todd's eyes light up and said, "I'm definitely the top."
Todd no longer wished to explain. Let there be misunderstandings, as long as Lori gave up on Allan.
Lori looked skeptical. "With your build, you don't look like the top."
Todd didn't respond and found a stone to sit on.
Lori, holding the orange cat, curiously approached Todd. "I never thought we almost became love rivals. I used to misunderstand you, thinking you were incapable, but it turns out you just had the wrong target."
Todd silently covered his face. Why did she keep going on and on?
"This cat is nice," Todd quickly changed the subject.
"Yeah, it feels great! Try petting it." Lori generously handed the orange cat to Todd.
Todd asked, "Earlier on the phone, when you said it felt great, were you talking about this cat?"
"Yes," Lori laughed. "Haha, I knew you came here because you were afraid I'd steal your man."
Todd gave up on trying to understand Lori's logic.
He suddenly regretted coming.
Strangely, once the orange cat nestled into Todd's arms, it became astonishingly well-behaved. It lay there docilely, even flipping onto its back, thoroughly relishing the way Todd stroked its fur.
Lori was surprised, "It really is a male cat. Look how friendly it is to females."
Todd couldn't help but correct, "I'm a man!"
Lori said, "You're not a real man."
Todd was stunned, his face darkening.
