Chapter 121 Something Happened to Loren
Aurora stepped out, spotted Summer, and wiped the tired look off her face. She grinned. "Hey, Summer!"
"Aurora," Summer said, peeking into the room. "Is Mr. Collins in there?"
"Yeah, they're chatting inside." Aurora crouched a bit and asked, "Looking for John?"
Summer shook his head. He wasn't there for John; he wanted to see Aurora but was too shy to say it.
Seeing Summer stay quiet, Aurora smiled and said, "How about some afternoon tea downstairs?"
After spending most of the day with John learning how to handle the company matters, Aurora was starving. Since Gary was with John, she decided to grab a bite.
"Okay." Summer wasn't as chatty as Loren and spoke less.
Aurora took Summer downstairs, and James approached respectfully. "Ms. White."
"James, I'm kinda hungry. Could you get us some afternoon tea?" Aurora asked, a bit embarrassed.
"Of course." James smiled. "Ms. White, please have a seat and wait a moment."
"Thanks." Aurora looked around the hall and, not seeing Jane, asked, "James, where's Ms. Torres?"
Jane usually tried to go upstairs, but today she hadn't, and Aurora didn't see her downstairs either.
"Ms. Torres went out," James said, "She might've been bored and went for a walk."
"Okay." Aurora didn't think much of it.
James quickly had the servants bring two servings of afternoon tea, and Aurora and Summer enjoyed them in the yard.
"Summer, what have you learned on the island? Are the people there really skilled? Is it as strict as on TV?" Ever since Aurora knew Summer was from Nightfall, she was curious about his life on the island.
Eating ice cream, Summer said, "We learn everything. Mr. Collins teaches medicine; Randy teaches shooting; Mr. Wetherall teaches..." Summer told Aurora all about life on the island. If it were someone else, they wouldn't get such info from Summer.
"Wow, Summer, you're amazing," Aurora said. She genuinely thought Summer was incredible, especially for someone so young.
But Aurora had a question. She looked at Summer and asked, "How did you meet John, go to the island, and join Nightfall?"
Summer sighed and said, "I was unlucky and got tricked onto the island by Randy."
Aurora didn't expect that and twitched her mouth. "Nightfall even kidnaps kids? What about the others on the island? Were they all kidnapped?"
"Everyone on the island is an orphan," Summer explained, "Every ten years, the organization recruits a new batch from all over the country, but everyone joins voluntarily."
Hearing Summer say he was an orphan, Aurora thought of Loren.
"Summer, do you remember your parents?"
"No." Summer shook his head. "I grew up in an orphanage."
What a coincidence?
Loren also grew up in an orphanage.
Aurora's heartstring tugged, and she asked, "Which orphanage? Do you remember? Any relatives?"
Summer stared at Aurora, puzzled by her questions.
"I was in Angel..." Before Summer could finish, Aurora's phone rang. It was Loren calling.
Aurora had bought Loren a smartwatch for easy contact.
Aurora answered with a smile, "Loren, do you miss me?"
"I'm not Loren." a little girl's voice came through "Loren was locked up by the teacher. You need to come quickly."
Hearing this, Aurora got worried and stood up abruptly. "I'm coming right away."
Aurora didn't know the details, but hearing Loren was in trouble, she couldn't sit still.
"Aurora, what's up?" Summer noticed Aurora's worried face. "Something wrong?"
"Yeah, something urgent came up. Summer, I have to step out for a bit." Aurora couldn't wait and bumped into Sam and Tyler coming back. "Sam, Tyler, come with me."
They responded, "Yes," without asking questions.
Sam got the car, and they all got in. Aurora said, "To East Main Street."
Just as they left, Helen returned and saw Summer alone in the yard. She walked over with a smile. "Summer, why are you here alone?"
"Helen," Summer greeted politely. "Aurora went out, and John is talking with Mr. Collins, so I'm waiting here."
"I see." Helen really liked Summer, especially since he looked so much like John as a child.
Helen sat down and asked, "Summer, can you tell me about your parents? What do they look like? Where did you live before you met Todd?"
Helen thought Summer was Todd's adopted son and figured he might remember something since he was almost five.
Summer looked at Helen, puzzled by all the questions about his parents today.
He shook his head. "I don't remember."
Talking about it made Summer sad. "Helen, I'm going to find John."
"Okay, you go ahead." Helen smiled kindly but felt a bit disappointed.
If John hadn't said Summer wasn't related to him, Helen would have wanted a paternity test.
Helen shook her head, thinking she was obsessed with having a grandchild.
She decided to get Aurora married into the family soon to have a grandchild sooner.
But thinking of Jane gave Helen a headache.
Helen sighed and went inside.
At the kindergarten.
Aurora showed her driving licence to the security guard and went straight in.
A little girl with a ponytail ran over. "Are you Loren's sister? Loren wasn't lying; his sister is really pretty."
The little girl had delicate features and would surely grow up to be a beauty.
She was holding Loren's smartwatch, and Aurora recognized her as the one who called.
"What's your name, sweetie? Where's Loren? Can you tell me what happened?"
"My name is Daisy," she whispered. "Ms. Griffin took Loren away a long time ago and hasn't come back. I think they locked Loren up, but I don't know where."
"They?" Aurora frowned. Daisy was just a child, and there wasn't much she could ask. The urgent matter was to find Loren.
Aurora went to Loren's classroom, but it was empty, so she headed to the principal's office.
Toby saw Aurora and asked curiously, "May I ask who you are?"
With so many children, Toby didn't know every parent.
"I'm Loren's guardian, Aurora," she said directly, "I'm here to take Loren home. Where is he?"
Aurora's tone had a hint of accusation.
If she knew more, she would have had Sam and Tyler find Ms. Griffin directly.
Toby smiled and said, "They went out for outdoor activities today and will be back at five. There's only half an hour left. Ms. White can wait."
Aurora pressed, "Why didn't I know about the outdoor activity? Where is it?"
"It's just at the back hill. Ms. Griffin should have notified you. It was organized by a parent to enhance parent-child relationships." Toby realized something was wrong and said, "Ms. White, please wait. I'll call Ms. Griffin right away."
"Sam, Tyler, go to the back hill," Aurora said coldly, "Find Loren immediately."
