Chapter 215 Natural Frenemies

Gary took one look at the heart monitor and yelled at the doctor who just walked in, "Quick, defibrillate!"

He was freaking out that Helen waking up too soon was a bad sign. He knew her injuries inside out. It was a miracle she even woke up in the afternoon, let alone right after surgery.

Helen had some serious willpower. She hung on just to spill the beans about Summer and Loren.

Lloyd shouted, "Helen!"

"Mr. Lewis, please step outside," Gary said, instructing the other doctors to escort Lloyd out.

Lloyd didn't want to get in the way, so he stepped out and stood by the window, gripping his cane tight.

Gary checked Helen's pupils and said, "One, two, three, again."

Another failed defibrillation.

"Again."

Still nothing.

"Again."

Gary's face showed a hint of worry. Being John's good friend, Gary was doing everything he could to save Helen.

Ten minutes went by, the heart monitor was still flat.

A doctor said, "Dr. Collins, it's time to call it."

They had all done their best. From last night until now, nearly ten hours of fighting to keep her alive. Everyone was exhausted.

Gary clenched his fist and pounded the operating table in frustration. He had saved countless lives since becoming a doctor, but he couldn't save his good friend's mom. The weight of this failure was crushing.

Taking a deep breath, Gary said, "Call it." Then he looked at Helen. "Auntie Helen, rest in peace."

Gary covered Helen with a white sheet, but just as he was about to finish, a nurse shouted, "There's a response, the monitor is showing a response!"

Gary quickly turned and saw a slight fluctuation on the heart monitor.

After checking Helen's pupils again, Gary smiled and said urgently, "Quick, continue."

A doctor said in shock, "It's a miracle."

But Gary thought it was more about the human will to survive. Helen had unfinished business. She hadn't seen John and Aurora get married, and she hadn't heard Summer and Loren call her grandma. Everyone has something they can't let go of.

Lloyd waited anxiously outside. After about half an hour, Gary came out.

Lloyd urgently asked, "How is she?"

"Mr. Lewis, don't worry. Auntie Helen has a strong will to live. She's been resuscitated, but she's very weak and needs further observation."

Lloyd finally relaxed, his tense nerves easing. "Dr. Collins, what did Helen say earlier?"

Since Helen's voice was low, Lloyd couldn't hear her at all.

Gary was silent for a few seconds and then said, "Auntie Helen said Summer and Loren are your biological grandchildren."

"Biological grandchildren?" Lloyd was confused.

Gary was puzzled too. How could Summer and Loren be John's kids? If they were, John would definitely know. John and Aurora had known each other for less than a year, so how could they have children that old?

Gary continued, "Maybe Auntie Helen likes Summer and Loren so much that she always considered them part of the Lewis family. Plus, with her severe injuries, she might have been confused and said those things."

Lloyd sighed, "Helen has always been worried about John's marriage. She desperately hoped to have grandchildren. John and Aurora, I don't know what kind of conflict they have, but it ended up like this. I wonder if John can win her back."

"Mr. Lewis, don't worry. With John's skills, he won't let go of Ms. White," Gary said with a reassuring smile. "This marriage is going to happen, sooner or later. Ms. White is carrying your family's child. Auntie Helen's wish will come true."

Aurora's pregnancy wasn't something Gary should've mentioned, but seeing Lloyd's tired face, he decided to spill the beans to ease his mind.

Lloyd's face lit up. "Really? Aurora's pregnant?"

"Yes, with twins."

"That's fantastic. I'm going to have great-grandchildren," Lloyd said happily, then added with a hint of annoyance, "Why didn't John say anything? And where is he now? His mom's in this condition, and he hasn't shown up?"

"Well, John is dealing with some issues and doesn't know about Auntie Helen yet. Mr. Lewis, don't worry, just look forward to holding your great-grandchildren," Gary said, dodging the details of John's situation.

He just hoped John could sort things out soon and come back with Aurora, or Lloyd's happiness would be short-lived.

Thousands of miles away, in H City.

Lori and Ava were hanging around near Alexander's place, waiting for news from Richard. It was already dawn, and Richard hadn't returned or sent any signals.

Lori was getting antsy. "I knew Richard was unreliable. Ava, let's just barge in." She was impatient, and waiting was driving her nuts.

"Let's wait a bit longer," Ava said calmly, looking towards Alexander's place. "We should trust Mr. Lee. He's led the Wolfpack this far; he knows what he's doing."

"You mean he's good at causing trouble?" Lori said. "If we're talking about messing things up, Richard is a pro. Who else could screw up the Wolfpack so badly that Aurora had to come and fix things?"

Ava, standing next to Lori, was taken aback. "Lori, Aurora is very capable."

Aurora might not be a fighter, but she had a sharp mind. Over the past few days, Aurora had organized the Wolfpack really well, and Ava had to admit she was impressed.

Lori snorted, "Aurora is pregnant." She had always resented Richard for leaving the Wolfpack to Aurora to organize.

Now that Aurora had been captured, Lori had nothing nice to say.

At that moment, a flashy sports car pulled up. The car stopped not far from Lori, and out stepped Todd.

Seeing Todd, Lori's eyes widened, and she immediately got agitated. "Todd, stop right there."

Ava also saw Todd and felt quite helpless. Lori and Todd were natural frenemies. Their grudges could go on for days and nights.

Todd had just brushed off some imaginary dust from his clothes when Lori's fist came flying.

"Feisty woman." Todd dodged quickly.

Lori missed and angrily kicked. "I'm going to cripple you today."

Todd couldn't help but think that Lori was quite fierce. He protected his lower body and dodged. No matter what move Lori made, he only defended.

Seeing Todd only dodging, Lori got even angrier. "You're a man, aren't you? Fight me if you have the guts."

Todd hid behind the car and said elegantly, "You know I can't beat you, yet you force me to fight. That's bullying the weak."

Hearing his words, Lori felt very frustrated. "Are you really a man?"

Todd, shameless as ever, spread his arms in a gentlemanly manner, as if inviting Lori to do whatever she wanted. "Ms. Hernandez, feel free to find out for yourself."

"Todd, I'm going to cripple you." Lori was infuriated again.

Ava shook her head helplessly. Every time these two met, Lori would definitely lose her cool.
