Chapter 312: The Cool President's Image Collapsed

Wade was right. In fact, most people, no matter how hard they try, end up living ordinary lives.

Wade was no exception after losing his status as the young master of the Lewis family.

After being kicked out of the Lewis family, Wade went to the construction site to carry bricks. He and Rex saved some money and then opened a cake shop.

Wade was only thirty years old, but he already had gray hair, and his skin had become much rougher, no longer as delicate as it used to be.

Aurora spoke, "You have a master's degree. Any job you find would be better than running a shop."

Aurora still admired Wade. Most people, after experiencing such a big change, would probably still be lost and filled with resentment.

But Wade opening a shop was quite confusing.

With Wade's qualifications, he could easily snag a job at any multinational or state-owned enterprise. Now that John was no longer suppressing him, so it wouldn't be hard for Wade to make a comeback.

Wade didn't respond to this topic but instead asked, "How did John do it? How did he double his assets in just one month?"

He was genuinely curious and wanted to know the gap between himself and John.

Aurora shrugged and smiled, "I'm also puzzled. He said money is just numbers; you just need to fiddle with it a bit."

John made it sound simple, but to outsiders, it was all a mystery.

Wade didn't get it at all.

"It seems the gap between us is really significant." Wade handed a few more flyers to Aurora. "With this flyer, you get a 20% discount. Come and try it sometime; it's right across the street."

"Sure." Aurora hadn't thought much of Wade before, but since John had already shown leniency towards Wade, she saw no need to hold onto past grievances.

Aurora entered the company and stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, embodying the essence of a powerful CEO.

A few years ago, she couldn't have imagined that one day she would be a CEO worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

"Ms. White, your package." Her secretary, Linda, came in with a package.

"Just leave it there." Aurora remembered the flyer Wade had given her and handed it to Linda. "This new cake shop is pretty good. You can go try it with your colleagues. Also, from now on, all the cakes for the company's afternoon tea will be ordered from this shop."

"Okay, Ms. White." Linda had also received a flyer on her way to work and knew that the shop was opened by Wade.

After Linda left, Aurora used a small knife to open the package. At first, she didn't know what was inside.

After opening it, Aurora found that it contained only a note and nothing else.

The note read: [Beware of Sandra.]

Wasn't Sandra already in custody, waiting for the court trial? Why would someone warn her to beware of Sandra?

The note was printed, not handwritten, so it was impossible to identify who wrote it.

The package had the sender's contact information.

Aurora immediately had Gideon check the address, but there was no such person.

It seemed the information provided was fake.

Whoever sent the package, there must be something going on with Sandra.

Aurora called Lori: "What's the latest on Sandra?"

"She's in the detention center, behaving quite well," Lori replied. "Surprisingly well. My colleagues said that since Sandra arrived, she hasn't cried or made a fuss; everything seems normal."

"Don't let your guard down. I received a message that there might be something going on with Sandra." Aurora warned, "Go check it out again."

"Alright, I have nothing else to do anyway. I'll go take a look."

Lori hung up the phone and called Ava. The two of them went to the detention center together.

They ran into Allan on the way.

Allan asked, "Where are you two going?"

"To check on Sandra." Lori parked the car and asked, "Mr. Jennings, when are you going to give us a break?"

Allan responded after thinking, "You can take a break today. There's nothing urgent at the station. If something comes up, I'll let you know. How about two days off?"

"Mr. Jennings, you're too kind," Lori said, a broad smile spreading across her face. "Two days off? That's more than I could have hoped for."

After the car drove off, Ava uttered, "We used to take a break for several months after a big case. Now you're happy with just two days off."

"It's different now," Lori answered. "Here, I feel a sense of belonging. Ava, don't you think we're actually suited for this job? Upholding justice, not only without being condemned but also being admired. It's great."

"Lori, do you plan to work here forever?" Ava asked worriedly. "If one day we can't work here anymore, will you be very disappointed?"

"Ava, what's gotten into you? Why are you so sentimental?" Lori said nonchalantly. "If they don't want me here, there will be other places that do."

Ava looked at Lori but said nothing.

When they arrived at the detention center, they showed their IDs, and Lori quickly saw Sandra.

Just as her colleagues had said, Sandra was sitting in a corner, meditating.

"So quiet?" Lori suddenly remarked.

Sandra opened her eyes, stared coldly at Lori for a moment, and then closed her eyes again.

Lori continued"Just to inform you, your trial is next Monday. Be prepared to stay here for ten years or more."

Sandra still didn't speak.

Lori found it boring. With someone guarding her, Sandra couldn't get out unless she turned into a bird and flew away.

"Forget it, Ava, let's go."

With two days off, Lori was thinking of having a good time.

Ava took one last look at Sandra and followed Lori out.

"Ava, with two days off, how about we go to the South? Have some fun for two days?" Lori suggested with a hopeful smile.

"Sure, let's leave later. I'm not feeling well; I didn't sleep well last night and want to rest for a bit," Ava replied, though she looked a bit weary. "Let's go tonight."

"Alright, you go rest. I'll buy some stuff and book the tickets. We'll leave at nine tonight."Lori said, her voice filled with understanding.

Lori was an impatient person. After they separated at the detention center, she went shopping while Ava went to rest.

On the way, Ava made a phone call: "Action at eight tonight. Meet at Whisper Bridge."

Night fell.

Aurora had worked all day and was exhausted. The desk was piled with documents, and it wasn't easy to finish reading them, let alone processing them.

She glanced at the time; it was almost eight. She turned off her computer and prepared to leave.

Since Aurora hadn't left, her secretary Linda stayed with her.

They got into the elevator together, chatting about work.

At that moment, John called and playfully spoke, "Honey, when are you coming home? I can't sleep without you."

Aurora immediately got goosebumps. Linda, hearing her boss's private side, had a look on her face that was both amused and restrained.

Aurora glanced at Linda awkwardly and said to John on the phone, "I'm talking with Linda in the elevator. I'll be home soon."

John was stunned. The image of the cold, unapproachable CEO that he had always known instantly collapsed.
