Chapter 245 That Weirdo Todd
Richard fell to the ground and felt like his bones were almost falling apart.
Yet upon seeing that the person in front of him was John, he didn't care about the pain and quickly stood up to run away.
John noticed a pebble at his feet and kicked it with such force that it hit Richard's leg, causing him to buckle and kneel on one knee.
Sam and Tyler rushed forward and grabbed him.
When Lori arrived, Richard had just been captured. Seeing the disheveled Richard, she felt a mix of emotions. After all, Richard raised her.
Richard was her family, but so was Aurora. Considering what Richard had done, Lori's heart began to lean towards Aurora.
Aurora anxiously said, "John, hurry, take my dad to the hospital."
Dean had already passed out from excessive blood loss, making Aurora even more anxious.
John picked up Dean and quickly walked towards the car, while Sam, Tyler, and Todd stayed behind to clean up.
Todd sighed, "Take Richard to the police station."
Richard had once been a prominent figure, and seeing him end up like this, Todd couldn't help but feel a bit emotional.
"Got it, Mr. Smith." Sam and Tyler replied and escorted him away.
Surprisingly, Richard didn't say a word. Just as he passed Lori, he looked at her for a few seconds.
Lori stepped aside and watched Richard being taken away with mixed feelings.
Just those goods Richard had sold were enough to keep him in prison for life, and this was definitely not his first time trafficking illegal items. Once inside, all his past deeds would be uncovered, making the situation even worse.
As the morning fog lifted, the photo on Wendy's tombstone showed a serene smile.
Only Todd and Lori remained in the cemetery.
This time, Lori didn't cause Todd any trouble. She didn't even cast a glance at him before turning to leave the cemetery.
Todd, not used to this melancholic version of Lori, quickly caught up and asked, "Hey, why are you walking so fast? Where's your best friend?"
Lori just shot him a sharp look. "I'm in a bad mood, so don't mess with me."
"I can see it. It's written all over your face." Todd said with a charming smile. "Want to grab a drink? My treat."
Even Todd was surprised by his own suggestion. He thought he must be crazy. But knowing Lori's personality, she would probably refuse, so he felt at ease.
To his surprise, Lori glanced at him and said, "You said it, your treat. Let's go."
Todd paused for a moment, feeling like he was asking for trouble.
Lori walked ahead, and seeing Todd hadn't followed, she sneered, "Are you regretting it? Are you too scared to treat me?"
Todd said, "Let's go. It's just a drink. I can definitely afford it."
Yet two hours later, Todd was in an awkward situation.
He had taken Lori to a bar owned by the Smith Group, which was open 24/7.
Todd generously ordered a table full of good liquor, and Lori drank it all. She was now holding up an empty bottle and saying, "Bring a few more bottles, and make sure they're good ones. Don't try to fool me with cheap stuff."
Todd felt quite helpless and said, "The liquor you've drunk so far is worth nearly a million dollars."
He was really bleeding money this time.
Lori drank the expensive liquor without batting an eye, and her face didn't even turn red. She retorted, "You must be joking. I can see these are all fake. I don't feel a thing. Where's the wine cellar? I'll pick my own."
"My liquor is all genuine." Todd said, genuinely curious about Lori's drinking capacity. "Fine, I'll take you to the wine cellar to drink to your heart's content."
With that, he reached out to grab Lori's hand. It was really an instinctive move. He didn't think much of it, seeing her more as a buddy than a woman.
When their hands touched, Lori felt like a jolt of electricity through her body, making her heart race.
Yet having been out of the dating scene for so long, Lori didn't immediately recognize what she was feeling.
As for Todd, a single man, he was even more clueless.
"I'll walk myself." Lori shook off Todd's hand and walked ahead.
Todd was surprised. "Hey, are you drunk? Your face is so red."
"You're seeing things. I'm not drunk." Lori retorted, her steady steps showing no signs of intoxication. She had no idea why her cheeks were burning.
In the wine cellar, Lori went straight for the liquor. Since it was Todd's place, she didn't hold back.
She directly picked one of Todd's prized bottles, while Todd quickly tried to stop her. "You can't drink that one..."
Before he could finish, Lori had already opened it and took a big gulp.
This bottle wasn't just expensive—it had something strange added to it.
Lori licked her lips, savoring the taste, and then said, "Now this is good stuff. You stingy guy, inviting me for a drink and hiding the good stuff. Don't worry. I never drink for free. Just tally up what I drink, and I'll pay you. I have plenty of money in my overseas bank account."
After drinking so much, she couldn't be completely unaffected.
She sat on the ground, drinking straight from the bottle with a bold and spirited demeanor, yet with a touch of charming naivety.
Todd said, "It's not about the money. This bottle was meant to be a wedding gift for John and Aurora, and I added something to it."
Hearing this, Lori spat out the wine and asked, "What did you add?"
Todd scratched his brow, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Something to enhance the couple's relationship."
Lori tried to spit out the wine, but it was too late. "Damn you, Todd. You did this on purpose. I knew you had bad intentions, inviting me for a drink to make a move on me."
Todd felt wronged. "You picked the bottle yourself. Out of thousands of bottles, you perfectly picked the one meant for Mrs. Lewis. I tried to stop you, but you drank too fast. How could you blame me?"
"I won't let you off." Lori was furious as she put down the bottle and stood up to hit him.
Yet upon standing up, Lori felt a burning sensation all over. "Damn, I think it's kicking in."
"What should we do?" Todd was at a loss. "Go to the hospital?"
Lori gritted her teeth. "It's too embarrassing. I'm not going."
Todd suggested, "Then... should I find someone for you?"
Lori was furious. "You still want to harm me? Damn you, Todd. Why did you put so much in it? What are you up to?"
"I was just playing a prank. How was I supposed to know you'd be so unlucky?" Todd said, "Wait, I'll call Gary. He'll know what to do."
"Hurry up." Lori urged. Now she could only hug herself, trying to endure.
Gary had just finished surgery on Dean and was washing his hands when he answered Todd's call. He felt quite helpless and let out a sigh as he said to the phone, "Can't you guys give me a break? You're going to work me to death."
Todd asked, "Hurry up. Is there a way to counteract that stuff? You made it, so you must know."
"Which stuff?" Gary was confused.
Todd expained, "The one that enhances couple's relationships. Do you get it now?"
"Who had the bad luck to drink that?" Gary was curious.
"Lori."
Gary understood and laughed. "When did you two get together? She's always giving you trouble. Isn't this the perfect opportunity to sort things out?"
"What?" Todd, being quite naive about these things, didn't get it.
Gary was speechless and couldn't help but roast, "Todd, are you even a man? You're such a weirdo. If you really can't handle it, then I can't help you. I'm busy, gotta go."
