Chapter 168 Aurora's Trap
A cool breeze drifted by.
Aurora suddenly remembered where she had seen Jennifer before.
In John's study, on his computer screen, there was a photo of Jennifer.
Jennifer held a special place in his heart.
"Aurora, feeling any better?" John squatted down and gently brushed Aurora's hair aside.
"Not at all." Aurora clutched her chest, then touched her head, with her eyes staring at John. "My chest hurts, my head hurts, everything hurts."
Aurora's tone was somewhat childish and her cheeks flushed, making her look both alluring and a bit naive.
John felt a tightness in his lower abdomen; she was truly a captivating woman.
He bet Aurora was doing this on purpose.
If it weren't for Jennifer being around, he would have wanted to get intimate with Aurora right then.
Seeing John's restrained expression, Aurora squinted her eyes and smiled. She licked her lips in a way that was incredibly sexy.
Aurora said, "I'm thirsty."
"I'll take care of Ms. White." Jennifer couldn't stand it anymore and spoke up, "John, do you have any hangover medicine in the car?"
"No." John said, "You wait in the car, I'll take care of her."
John handed her the water, and Aurora drank it slowly, swinging her legs and glancing at John and then at Jennifer.
Jennifer obediently went to wait in the car, showing her tact.
"Feeling better now?" John squatted beside Aurora, being particularly attentive.
Aurora sat on the flower bed and her hands rested on John's shoulders, making the height just right.
"A little better than before." Aurora playfully hooked her arms around his neck. "You spent the whole afternoon with your ex-girlfriend and even brought her to pick me up. Aren't you afraid I'll get mad?"
"I'm afraid." John stared at Aurora, his gaze profound. "I didn't think this through today. So I should seek forgiveness from you, I hope you won't be angry."
Aurora huffed, "I'm not angry. Do I seem like a petty woman?"
John's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Of course not, you are the most generous and understanding."
Aurora felt sweet inside. Women were so easy to please.
They spoke softly with their heads close together, giving the impression of a couple deeply in love.
Sitting in the car, Jennifer's face was expressionless, but her hands were clenched tightly, veins bulging.
Aurora wrapped her arms around John's neck, acting spoiled. "I want a kiss, kiss me before we go."
Such a benefit, if a man refused, he would truly lack charm.
John rarely saw Aurora's coquettish side. He chuckled softly, leaving a kiss on her lips, and whispered, "Aurora, I want you."
Aurora laughed so joyfully that she almost falled into the flower bed as John held her, also laughing.
This scene stung Jennifer's eyes. She had never seen John smile so warmly, like the blazing sun. In her memory, John was cold, decisive and would never show such tenderness.
John, as the leader of the Lewis Group and the Nightfall organization, had superior power and status. However, now, he flirted with Aurora like an ordianty man.
Aurora was being playful, while John was laughing. It was simply unbelievable.
Aurora had her fun, got her kiss, then let John carry her to the car.
John placed Aurora in the passenger seat and personally buckled her seatbelt. Before closing the door, he affectionately ruffled her hair like petting a beloved dog. "Sit tight."
Aurora pretended to be angry. "I'm not a dog."
John laughed. "Look at you now. Showing teeth and glaring, and you say you're not a dog."
Aurora shot back, "You're the dog."
John chuckled as he walked around to the driver's seat and started the car. He drove slowly this time, not wanting Aurora to feel uncomfortable again.
As the car cruised down the road, Aurora turned to the back seat and smiled, "Let's formally introduce ourselves. I'm Aurora."
Jennifer hesitated for a moment, then smiled back, "Nice to meet you, I'm Jennifer."
"Nice to meet you too," Aurora kept smiling. "By the way, you look a lot like Sandra. I worked with her for a while, and she used to invite me over for dinner. I remember there's this ancient apricot tree in her neighborhood, supposed to be years old. Have you seen it?"
Jennifer smiled, "Sandra never mentioned it to me, and I haven't noticed any apricot tree."
Aurora feigned surprise. "You've been back for a while and already contacted your sister. When you said you were at the airport on the phone, I thought you had just returned. You two sisters are really good at keeping secrets."
Aurora turned to John, "This must be a surprise for you."
Jennifer was startled, realizing she had been led into a trap by Aurora. Wasn't this indirectly admitting she had already contacted Sandra and visited her place?
Jennifer quickly looked at John's expression and explained, "I had a video chat with Sandra before."
"I know," John kept his eyes on the road. "You two sisters have always been close."
John's words were ambiguous, leaving Jennifer puzzled. She looked at Aurora again.
Aurora smiled innocently, the same expression Loren had after doing something naughty. Aurora and her son had identical expressions.
Jennifer's sudden reappearance naturally made Aurora more cautious.
Aurora believed John was also being cautious.
The car drove into the Meadowbrook Villa, and John instructed the servants to prepare hangover medicine for Aurora and a room for Jennifer.
He then carried Aurora upstairs to the bedroom.
Just as he put Aurora down, Todd's voice came from outside, "Boss, boss, I heard you were assassinated again."
The tone sounded somewhat gloating.
John turned to Aurora. "Stay in the room. I'll be right back."
John walked out before Todd could enter, and closed the door behind him. "Did you catch them?"
"No," Todd laughed, indeed sounding a bit gloating. "The secret guards reported that the assassins were Lori and Ava from the Wolfpack. They escaped. I'm curious, how did you offend them?"
Hearing Lori's name, John was unsurprised by their escape.
Lori and Ava were inseparable partners and never failed a mission. Lori also had somehow learned the art of throwing needles, capable of killing from a hundred yards away, silently and invisibly.
John remembered an issue between Lori and Todd.
"Then you can go find and ask them," John said. "I'm curious too. You should attract more animosity than I do, so they have no reason not to kill you."
Todd felt a bit helpless.
"That's settled then."
"I'm not going. I can't afford to mess with those sisters," Todd refused.
John pretended not to hear what he said. "I'll be waiting for your news."
Todd said, "What about you?"
"I'm going to take care of Aurora. She drank too much," John said matter-of-factly, as if Aurora was the most important, and opened the door again. "Jennifer is back, staying next door."
Todd's mouth twitched. "Boss, are you kidding? Jennifer has been dead for years."
"Todd, are you calling me?"
Jennifer appeared behind him at some point.
Todd turned around, startled, and blurted out, "A ghost!"
