Chapter 49 John Becomes Suspicious
Dean was taken aback.
This was the second time Aurora had asked this question.
The last time was five years ago.
After giving birth, the first thing Aurora asked him was, "Where's the child?"
Dean always remembered his answer at that time.
"Dead."
When the word fell, Aurora's face turned pale, and her grief-stricken expression was unforgettable.
And now, Dean looked at Aurora, his lips trembling, and nodded. "Dead."
He offered the same answer as back then.
"Dead?" Aurora murmured, as if talking to herself, or maybe asking, but she didn't know who she was asking.
"The child's face was all blue when it was born, and it didn't cry. The doctors tried to save it, but they couldn't." Dean sighed and said, "Aurora, it's been so many years, so you should stop thinking about it. I know Nicole was wrong back then."
Hearing this, Aurora's pupils dilated. "You knew everything."
But Dean chose to side with Nicole and Emily.
Dean knew about it, but he never mentioned it or cared. At the time, he also felt ashamed.
He felt a lot of guilt towards Aurora. "Aurora, I'm sorry."
Aurora closed her eyes in pain and smiled self-deprecatingly. "I should have known."
All the grievances and hardships she had suffered over the years, Dean knew, but he turned a blind eye.
"Aurora," Dean said earnestly, "now that you've gained the favor of the Robinson family, your future will only get better. You can find any man you want. Don't look back."
But that was her first child.
She hadn't even seen its face.
Aurora didn't say anything, and Dean sighed and left.
He couldn't let those two children ruin Aurora.
Yes.
Aurora had actually given birth to fraternal twins, and they were beautiful children. Dean couldn't bear it back then, but the White family couldn't be shamed.
Aurora had given birth out of wedlock, and no one knew whose children they were. He couldn't keep the children, so he had them dealt with.
Now, he didn't know the whereabouts of those two children.
Dean got into the car, and Nicole started complaining first. "Dean, look at today. Aurora's attitude towards us was so bad thatshe didn't respect me as her stepmother at all."
"Yeah, Dad, Aurora even had people stop you from going in. Isn't that embarrassing for you?"
"You two idiots," Dean scolded harshly, "what's with that kid and that man tonight? Do you think everyone is a fool? Ruining Aurora won't do you any good."
Emily's face was full of jealousy, and she said, "I just don't want her to show off. Besides, she had a child out of wedlock."
Dean was exasperated. "Your position in the Taylor family is unstable. If you make things worse with Aurora, it will only be more disadvantageous for you. If you want to establish yourself in the Taylor family, you not only can't go against Aurora, but you also have to mend the relationship. Our White family will rely on Aurora in the future."
"Make me please her? That's impossible." Emily thought of the time she tried to please Aurora and ended up making a fool of herself. She hated Aurora even more.
Nicole quickly understood and grabbed Emily's hand. "Emily, your dad is right. Aurora is now Kevin's adopted daughter, which is a fact. You're not pleasing Aurora but the Robinson family. If you catch Kevin's eye and he takes you as his adopted daughter, then Daniel won't be able to escape your grasp."
Hearing that she could secure Daniel, Emily was tempted, and her eyes brightened. "Mom, Dad, I understand. Don't worry. I won't go against Aurora anymore."
The banquet ended.
Aurora accompanied Kevin and Ashley to see off the guests.
Daniel came out, and Aurora just glanced at him indifferently, without any extra look.
Daniel wanted to say something but ultimately said nothing.
After the guests left, Ashley said, "Aurora, you've been tired all night, so go rest."
"Godmother, I have to take Jack back to the hospital. I'll go straight back to my rental house later. You and Godfather have been busy all day, so you should rest early, too." Aurora wasn't used to staying with the Robinson family.
Kevin saw through Aurora's thoughts and gave Ashley a look.
Ashley smiled and took out a set of keys. "Aurora, your Godfather and I have prepared an apartment for you in Blossom Community. You can move there."
The adopted daughter of the Robinson family shouldn't live in such a small place.
"Thank you, Godfather and Godmother." Aurora accepted the keys but didn't plan to move.
Aurora had just sent Jack off when John came out of the Robinson family.
Kevin personally saw him off.
"Mr. Lewis, I've already spoken to the people inside, so the man, who slandered Aurora, won't be coming out for the rest of his life."
"Okay," John said coldly, "there's no need to trouble you with the rest, Mr. Kevin Robinson."
In other words, he would handle the rest himself.
Kevin smiled. "Alright."
It wouldn't make sense for John to go after that Nicole and Emily, and it was a personal grudge of the White family, so it was even more inappropriate for Kevin to intervene.
John got into the car, and Todd asked, "Boss, you've been missing for a few days. If you don't show up soon, Miss White will be hard to appease."
John came today as the head of the Lewis family, just to let Kevin know how much he valued Aurora.
He should go see Aurora, too.
Aurora left after sending Jack back to the hospital. The calm after the hustle and bustle made her feel a bit dazed.
Aurora stood by the river, feeling the cold wind, and Loren's clever face appeared in her mind.
Where did that child go?
The entire Robinson family couldn't find him, and without his parents, where could he go?
Her phone suddenly rang, and the caller ID showed it was John.
Aurora stared at the phone, frowning, but didn't answer.
In a car across the street, John watched Aurora by the river, puzzled that she didn't answer.
The phone stopped ringing, but Aurora remained in the same position.
John called again, and Aurora composed herself before answering.
On the phone, John's eager voice came through. "Aurora, are you mad?"
Aurora put one hand in her pocket, trying to keep her voice steady, and asked, "No, are you done with work?"
"Yes, I'm back. I want to see you. Where are you? I'll come to you right away." John didn't get out of the car to find Aurora. Appearing suddenly would make her suspicious, so he called.
"No need, I'm at the hospital with Jack. I've been busy all day and I'm tired. I want to sleep." Aurora lied, forcing a smile. "You must be tired, too, so rest early."
Before John could say anything, Aurora hung up.
She was upset and afraid of giving herself away if she saw John now.
In the car, John stared at Aurora by the river, and his brows furrowed.
His intuition told him that Aurora's low mood was definitely related to what happened at the banquet.
Having a child out of wedlock...
