Chapter 206 John's First Woman

John had been mulling it over for a while now. That woman, who he thought didn't matter, kept popping up in his thoughts. He sat up, moved to another couch, and lit a cigarette.

"What's up?" Aurora asked, confused by John's sudden mood shift.

John took a long drag. "Aurora, there was a woman, five years ago." He looked at her, eyes serious.

He didn't want to hide anything. What happened with Jennifer taught him that secrets only lead to bigger messes.

"Actually, almost six years. She was my first," John said, his voice filled with sincerity.

Aurora felt uneasy. She curled up on the sofa, hugging her knees. "Oh."

What could she say about something that happened so long ago? She had her own past too. She lost her innocence years back and still didn't know who the guy was.

After finding her child, she decided not to dwell on it or find out who the father was. She was with John now, and her child was with her. Why dig up old wounds?

Given John's status, she knew she wasn't his first. But hearing him say it still stung. "Why bring this up now?" she asked.

John smirked, "I don't know, just felt like being honest. Figured you deserved to know."

They stared at each other in the dim light, the room suddenly quiet. Neither spoke, both lost in their thoughts, with so much to say but not knowing where to start.

After a long pause, Aurora broke the silence. "Let's get some sleep. By the way, Lori told me the people who wanted you dead were from The Shadow of Darkness."

"Got it," John said. He'd definitely look into it.

Aurora didn't say more. She got up and went upstairs. John watched her go, wanting to say something but staying silent.

That night, John didn't sleep. He smoked a lot, filling the ashtray with butts.

The next morning, John had already made porridge. After eating, Aurora headed to the hospital. John had become her shadow, following her everywhere.

At the hospital, John waited in the hallway while Aurora went in to see Richard.

Richard knew what Aurora had been up to and was waiting for an explanation.

"Uncle Richard, you look good today," Aurora said, peeling an apple and handing it to him. "Try this."

"I don't like apples," Richard replied, looking at her. "Aurora, I heard you managed to stabilize the distributors and clients. Good job. I knew you could do it."

"Yeah, they're stable for now. But whether we can keep it up depends on you," Aurora said. "They're sticking around because we partnered with Nightfall. With Nightfall backing us, they feel secure."

Richard caught on quickly. "How did you get in with Nightfall?"

"That's a long story," Aurora said with a smile. "Uncle Richard, there are no eternal enemies, only eternal interests. Since you handed Wolfpack over to me, this is the only way I can keep it together. If you're not happy with it, there's nothing I can do but watch Wolfpack fall apart."

Richard kept a stern face. "Are you threatening me?"

"Uncle, you're reading too much into it. The conflicts between Wolfpack and Nightfall over the years have been minor. There's no deep-seated hatred. Let's just resolve it."

"You make it sound easy. Nightfall has taken advantage of us many times, causing Wolfpack significant losses. Who knows what ulterior motives they have in cooperating with us?" Richard said, worried. "Aurora, you're still too young. I'm afraid you'll be deceived and suffer losses. There's no such thing as a free lunch. Why would Nightfall help us?"

Aurora laughed. "Your concerns are valid. Nightfall does have other motives."

"See, I was right." Richard got a bit anxious. "Did they propose any unfair terms?"

"Uncle, do you think I'm that foolish?" Aurora gently patted her belly.

Seeing her action, Richard was puzzled. "What do you mean?"

At that moment, John's voice came from the door. "Mr. Lee, Aurora's matters are my matters. From now on, Wolfpack and Nightfall will stand together."

Richard looked at John. He had never seen the true face of Nightfall's Boss, but he recognized the ring symbolizing John's identity at a glance.

"You are..." Richard was shocked, almost getting out of bed.

John looked at Aurora. "Aurora, let me talk to Richard alone."

"Take it easy, don't say anything inappropriate in front of Richard." Aurora knew some things needed to be discussed between Richard and John alone, so she left.

Aurora waited outside in the hallway. Suddenly, she felt someone was watching her from behind. She instinctively turned to look.

This floor was reserved by Richard. Only a masked male doctor walked from the other side towards the elevator, and a nurse was organizing files at the front desk. The rest were guards, with no other suspicious people.

Was it her imagination?

Aurora shook her head and sat down on a hallway chair.

Upon entering the elevator, the male doctor gave a sinister glance in Aurora's direction. As the elevator doors closed, he took out his phone and made a call.

"She's in the hospital, and John is with her. It's hard to make a move..."

After exiting the elevator, the male doctor went to the restroom. He took off his doctor's coat and removed his mask, revealing a hideous scar at the corner of his mouth.

After throwing the coat and mask into the trash can, he put on a prepared baseball cap and left. Just as Lori and Ava entered the hospital, they passed by the man. The man lowered his hat and kept his head down.

After walking a few meters, Lori stopped. "Why do I feel that man looked familiar?"

Ava asked, "Which man?"

Lori glanced back at the man, who was walking quickly, leaving only a back view. She couldn't recall where she had seen him.

Suddenly, the man, in a hurry, was bumped by a child. He turned sideways, instinctively raising his head, and Lori saw the scar at the corner of his mouth. "Damn, henchman of The Shadow of Darkness organization. Ava, go chase him."
