Chapter 368: Someone Calls Out in the Middle of the Night

Aurora, hiding at the stairwell, was overjoyed. Jax was safe in Lori's arms now.

Sandra realized what was happening and reached out to grab the child: "Give him to me!"

At that moment, John gave an order, "Take action."

John's cold voice came from above. Sandra turned around in shock and saw John and Aurora, understanding everything.

"Stop them," Sandra's face changed drastically, and she started to run.

Chaos erupted as Nightfall's people clashed with The Shadow of Darkness Organization.

Sensing something was wrong, Wade seized the moment to run towards the nearby exit.

John noticed Wade, grabbed a wooden stick from the ground, and hurled it, hitting Wade on the back of the head.

Momentarily stunned, Wade looked back at John with a venomous glare.

At this moment, the sound of police sirens drew closer.

Aurora ran downstairs and took the child from Lori's hands, feeling a sense of peace as she held the child.

Aurora kissed Jax excitedly. Lori went to capture Sandra; only by capturing Sandra could Ava redeem herself.

At this moment, Wade and Sandra were like frightened rats, as desperate as cornered rabbits.

Wade saw John advancing and swiftly veered towards Aurora. He realized that his only shot at survival was to make a desperate gamble.

Aurora stood outside the crowd with the child to avoid any harm to the child.

John realized Wade's intention and reached Aurora before Wade, standing in front of her and kicking Wade away.

"You're asking for trouble."

John's eyes darkened. Before Wade could get up, John grabbed his collar and lifted him, "Wade."

The name was almost squeezed out from between his teeth, filled with intense hatred.

"John, you've got it all wrong," Wade's mind raced, "I was going to inform you that Sandra is here. It was Sandra who killed Helen. I came here to keep her calm."

Did he really think John was an idiot?

John's expression was cold and murderous, "Go die and apologize to my mom."

With that, John swung his fist and punched Wade.

Wade's face was knocked sideways, and a mouthful of blood spurted out.

Sandra's people had all been captured by Nightfall's men within minutes.

Wade was beaten to the ground, barely clinging to life. John's eyes were red with rage, and one more kick would end Wade's life.

"John."

Just as the final kick was about to land, Allan arrived and stopped John.

The terror in Wade's eyes faded, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

Allan glanced at Wade. John had been ruthless, but it was understandable. No one could hold back against their mother's killer?

Allan looked at John, who coldly snorted, "Self-defense."

Wade had no words to argue.

He had been beaten the entire time.

Allan knew the truth.

Anyone with eyes could see that Wade had no ability or opportunity to fight back.

For the first time, Allan chose to turn a blind eye and told his men, "Take everyone away."

Allan had brought dozens of police officers, and all of The Shadow of Darkness organization members were loaded into cars.

Wade couldn't walk anymore and had to be carried on a stretcher.

Wade looked at Aurora unwillingly, "When did you find out? You were pretending the whole time, weren't you?"

Aurora, holding the child, replied, "I realized it when I woke up. You said you found me on East Main Street, but there was cement on your shoes. Virtual Bridge had a section under construction; you must have been there."

Wade was incredulous: "Just because of a small detail?"

"One detail is enough."

Wade was utterly defeated. He never expected Aurora had been playing him from the very beginning.

He always thought he had hidden it well.

"The person in the haystack earlier, that was you, wasn't it?"

"Yes," Aurora admitted, "I heard you talking to Sandra on the phone, knew you would come here, and followed you."

Wade laughed self-deprecatingly: "Indeed, beautiful women are the best liars."

Aurora's beautiful face was her best weapon. She pretended to be weak and helpless, and Wade fell for it.

"I just used your own methods against you," Aurora said coldly, "John and I always thought you had changed, but you never gave up your evil intentions. You pretended to be indifferent to fame and fortune, but secretly colluded with Sandra, stole my child, and killed Helen. Wade, any one of these crimes ensures you'll spend your life in prison."

Wade was deceived by Aurora's acting skills; he was blinded by his desire to defeat John. Aurora was John's beloved, and seeing her vulnerable fed Wade's ego. His arrogance did the rest, making him believe her every word.

The only thing Wade couldn't understand, "John, did you never suspect that Aurora killed your mom?"

John extended his arm, holding Aurora and the child, and looked at Wade with eyes as sharp as knives, "Are you insulting my intelligence?"

If he couldn't see through such a trap, then his thirty-plus years of life would have been in vain.

It was all because Sandra and Wade were too impatient. If they had been more patient and waited for the right opportunity, they might have succeeded.

Aurora killing Helen was simply too far-fetched.

Allan took everyone away. Lori had gone after Sandra but hadn't returned yet. Aurora worriedly spoke, "John, go check on Lori."

With Lori's skills, she shouldn't have taken this long to return.

John replied "You take the child to the car first, I'll go check on her."

Lori chased Sandra out, who bolted straight for the railroad tracks. A train was approaching. Sandra glanced back at Lori, gritted her teeth, and crossed the tracks.

Lori couldn't follow; the train was already too close. She had to wait for the train to pass.

After the train, with its dozens of cars, rumbled by, there was no one in sight.

"Fuck!" Lori cursed in frustration.

She searched the area but found no one. In the middle of the night, surrounded by tall weeds, finding someone was not easy.

Another train passed by, and as it faded into the distance, she suddenly heard someone calling from behind.

"Lori!"
