Chapter 250 Rich People Are All Cunning
Wendy succeeded because Alexander loved her and indulged her.
Aurora felt somewhat comforted by Alexander's words.
At least Wendy wasn't in a one-sided love, and it was just because that both Wendy and Alexander were stubborn, unwilling to give the other an out, both acting like "I love you, and you should understand even if I did not say it", and thus they missed each other.
People who weren't good at expressing themselves often hid their love in their actions.
Wendy loved Alexander and chose to give birth to their child, Aurora.
Alexander loved Wendy and built The Shadow of Darkness organization from scratch as a gift for her.
There was a long silence in the car. Alexander was lost in his sorrow, and Aurora was also feeling emotional, not knowing what to say.
After a while, Aurora spoke up, "My mom was pregnant with twins back then. One didn't make it, and I was the one left. She thought of you until her dying day."
Richard tricked her mother into taking abortion pills. If it weren't for the incomplete medical abortion, she wouldn't be here.
Alexander's eyes were bloodshot, tears welling up. He wanted to laugh, yet cried out, "I wronged your mom. What's the point of pride?"
In youth, pride was everything. In middle age, he finally realized that cherishing the present was most important.
Aurora sipped her milk, her emotions complex. "You wronged me too."
Apart from contributing sperm, Alexander hadn't fulfilled any fatherly responsibilities at all.
"Aurora, I am sorry. " Alexander looked at Aurora and suddenly bowed deeply, a full ninety degrees, with utmost sincerity.
Aurora felt a bit helpless.
Back to the point, Aurora remembered what Helen had said and asked, "Have you ever had blood on your hands in your life?"
Upon hearing her words, Alexander immediately took on the demeanor of The Shadow of Darkness organization leader and said boldly, "In my line of work, how can one not get blood on his hands?"
"Then did you killed anyone? "
"I haven't done anything illegal." Alexander said, "Just used some extreme measures when necessary."
Aurora snorted, "If you didn't, then why were you investigated by the police before?"
Alexander gave an awkward smile, and tired to maintain his pride stubbornly. "An old friend missed me and invited me in for a chat."
"You have quite the connections, even old friends in the police department." Aurora didn't bother to expose him and asked, "Did you have anything to do with the former chairman of the Lewis Group dying in a car accident?"
Hearing this, Alexander became more cautious. "Aurora, why are you asking about this?"
Aurora's expression turned serious as she asked, "This concerns me and John. Of course, I need to know. Just tell me, did you have anything to do with it?"
Aurora, being straightforward, didn't beat around the bush with Alexander.
Luckily, she didn't inherit Wendy and Alexander's stubbornness; otherwise, she and John wouldn't have made it this far.
Alexander hesitated for a long time before finally admitting, "Yes."
That single "yes" was like a dull knife, and Aurora felt as if she heard the sound of her relationship with John being severed by it.
It was over!
Alexander paused and continued, "At the time, I wanted to expand my business in Silvercrest City. The Lewis Group was doing well, so I set my sights on it. I approached Lloyd Lewis several times for cooperation, but he refused. I got angry and wanted to teach him a lesson, so I had someone take action."
Aurora lost all her emotions: "You have quite the eye. Out of everyone, you set your sights on the Lewis family."
"It wasn't just my decision. I hired a financial advisor who told me that investing in Silvercrest City had the most potential. Cooperating with the Lewis family would make it easier to establish a foothold in Silvercrest City."
Aurora felt a bit helpless. "I wasn't complimenting you."
Alexander really didn't realize she was being sarcastic and thought she was genuinely praising his foresight.
Alexander paused for a moment and said earnestly, "Sorry, I didn't catch that."
"May I ask, what's your educational background?"
"I dropped out after elementary school to make a living." When Alexander recalled his past, he was actually quite proud. "I wasn't good at studying, unlike your mom, who was well educated. So I started working early.
The higher my status and wealth, the more I realized the importance of knowledge. I pinned my hopes on Jennifer and Sandra. Jennifer did well but had poor health and was a hopeless romantic. Sandra wasn't as perceptive as Jennifer but had a tougher heart."
Elementary school education.
Aurora suddenly remembered when she first met Alexander, his room was filled with money, and his antique shelves were full of collections, clearly a nouveau riche.
Aurora said, "I think Sandra is quite like you. You killed John's father, Matthew. John and I are doomed."
Alexander quickly said, "Don't worry. I did it very discreetly. The Lewis family shouldn't know and would just think it was an accident."
"Even I know it. Do you think they don't?" Aurora suddenly felt a lot of sympathy and understanding for her mother's helplessness back then. With such a big difference in education, they weren't even on the same wavelength.
"Aurora, don't worry. I'll handle this. I should bear the consequences of my mistakes. Let John come to me." Alexander seemed fearless.
"If he could come to you, I wouldn't be here." Aurora put down her milk and looked at Alexander seriously. "Blood ties can't be severed. You're my dad, and even if I don't acknowledge it, that won't change. You killed John's father. I can't let you pay with your life, and John won't resort to ruthless measures against you. It's really a deadlock."
"So what do we do?" Alexander was at a loss. "Should I kill myself? Turn myself in? Or let John kill me to avenge his dad? If that doesn't work, we just won't acknowledge each other."
Aurora couldn't criticize Alexander's lack of effort. After all, Alexander was very proactive, but none of these solutions could break the deadlock.
John's call came again. Aurora glanced at the caller ID and didn't answer while putting her phone on silent.
Alexander realized the gravity of the situation. "Aurora, I wronged you. If I had known you and Matthew's son would be together, I'd rather it was me who died. It's truly a sin."
Aurora closed her eyes and muttered, "If only Matthew wasn't killed by you."
With that, she got out of the car to get some fresh air by the sea.
Alexander slapped his forehead and said, "I just wanted to teach Matthew a lesson. I intended to have someone beat him up, but the person I hired went too far and killed him. If I had known, I wouldn't have listened to that financial advisor. I knew those educated people were too cunning."
Financial advisor.
Aurora seemed to realize something. "Where is that person? The financial advisor."
