Chapter 313: Sacrificing Family for Justice

John knew Aurora was coming back soon, so he ended the conversation and hung up the phone.

Aurora silently put her phone back in her pocket and asked Linda, "Where were we?"

"We were just talking about the North Lake project," Linda said. "According to some insider information, there's an intention to fill the lake. If we get the official document for it, it's a guaranteed profit."

Aurora nodded, her mind quickly shifting back to work mode. "Okay, I'll see what I can do about it."

The two walked out of the office building, and Aurora drove off by herself.

She glanced at the time on the dashboard; it was exactly eight o'clock.

Her eyelid suddenly twitched violently, and Aurora suddenly thought of calling Lori again.

The phone rang a few times, but no one answered.

Aurora didn't think much of it and started the car, heading towards the Lewis family.

Meanwhile.

There was chaos at the detention center. Alarms blared, and the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the corridors.

Someone shouted, "There's been a jailbreak!"

Soon, all the on-duty officers were mobilized. Allan, who had come to see a prisoner today, found himself in the midst of the turmoil.

Allan grabbed a colleague and asked, "Who escaped?"

"Sandra, the one who was recently brought in for kidnapping and attempted murder." His colleague replied, a look of concern on his face.

Allan remembered Lori mentioning earlier in the day that she was going to see Sandra. He didn't expect that something would actually happen in just a few hours.

"Take me to Sandra's cell." Allan ordered, his voice firm.

When Allan arrived at the cell, he immediately noticed that the lock wasn't pried open but was unlocked from the outside.

Allan questioned, "Where are the guards?"

The guards came over, trembling, "Mr. Jennings, my brother and I were on duty today. We both had to use the restroom due to an upset stomach. It was just five minutes, and when we came back, she was gone."

Allan's eyes narrowed. "Both of you had an upset stomach?"

What a coincidence?

The two guards were also very frustrated. The prisoner escaped on their watch, and if they were held accountable, they would definitely have to write a report and face punishment.

Blaming them now wouldn't help, so Allan instructed, "Check the surveillance footage."

Some officers had already gone to pursue the escapee.

Allan had someone pull up the surveillance footage, but it was all blacked out, and the main system was completely wrecked.

It seemed premeditated.

Allan suddenly remembered, "This method is similar to Richard's jailbreak."

Allan was currently in charge of the Richard jailbreak case.

If they could catch Sandra this time, they might be able to follow the trail and capture Richard as well.

At Whisper Bridge.

Ava handed Sandra over to Richard.

"I've done what I promised. You must keep your word and stay away from Lori. And from today on, don't ever show up in front of me again, or I will definitely bring you in."

Richard smiled, clearly pleased with Ava's performance. "Ava, you haven't let me down after all these years. You did an excellent job this time."

Ava remained expressionless. "You should leave now. They'll be here soon."

Richard signaled Sandra to get in the car quickly. Then he turned to Ava, "Ava, you belong to the darkness. We are the same kind of people. You'll understand this sooner or later."

Ava's expression didn't change. "I have no beliefs. Whatever Lori wants to do, I want to do. Her beliefs are my beliefs."

In her heart, Lori was more important than anything.

Richard had exploited Ava's weakness to get her to work for him.

As Richard left with his people, he hadn't given up on Ava and Lori, his two major assets. If he could use them, it would be like adding fuel to the fire.

After Richard left, Ava checked the time and headed to her place to go on a vacation to the South with Lori.

Ava hadn't gone far when she saw Lori leaning against the riverside railing.

"Lori." Ava was both startled and guilty. "You knew everything?"

Lori sneered, "Did you really think I was that stupid?"

After so many years of being sisters, they could tell what the other was thinking with just a word, a look, or a gesture.

"I'm sorry," Ava lowered her head.

Lori walked towards her, anger evident in her eyes. "Ava, in all these years, we've never taken on a mission alone. You hid the fact that you were going to save Sandra and worked for Richard. You really let me down."

Even though she knew Ava did it for her, Lori was still very furious.

She was angry that Ava was blackmailed by Richard and that Ava acted on her own without telling her.

Ava remained silent. At this point, saying anything was useless. They both understood the reasoning in their hearts.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Lori said angrily, hands on her hips.

Ava looked at her and said, "Lori, Todd was right. You do act a bit like a shrew."

"Ava, have you been bought off by Todd too?" Lori glared at her.

Ava couldn't help but laugh, "Even if you are a shrew, you're the most beautiful shrew."

"Hmph, that's more like it."

"Not angry anymore?" Ava glanced at Lori's face.

"Still angry." Lori glared at Ava. "To soothe my hurt and deceived fragile heart, you have to give me half of your money in the bank."

"No problem, you can have it all."

In Ava's eyes, sisterhood was priceless.

Nothing could destroy their bond.

Lori held her forehead, "I underestimated it. I should have asked for more."

Ava asked, "Are we still going to the South?"

"Mr. Jennings called and wants us to catch Sandra," Lori replied. "I've already informed him. He's sent people to intercept Sandra and that person."

That person referred to Richard.

Ava was surprised, "You really would turn against your own family?"

"He threatened you. This time, he brought it on himself," Lori spoke, not wanting to mention Richard. "I'll call Aurora."

Aurora returned to the Lewis family estate and was about to take a shower when she received a call from Lori.

"Aurora, your information was accurate. Sandra broke out tonight, and it was Richard's doing."

Lori didn't mention on the phone that Ava was the one who got Sandra out.

Aurora wasn't surprised by the news. "Okay, got it."

John closed his book and asked, "Aurora, what's going on?"

"Sandra broke out," Aurora said. "I got the news this morning, and it really happened tonight. I'm wondering who tipped me off. I had Gideon look into it, but he couldn't find anything. After what Lori just said, I think I know who it was."

"Who?"

"Jack," Aurora responded. "I ran into Jack before. If it wasn't him, I wouldn't have guessed."

John said, "It seems Jack isn't completely without a sense of right and wrong. Aurora, when Jack went with Richard, didn't you think there might be another reason?"

"I hadn't thought about that," Aurora said. When she heard Jack had gone with Richard, she was so angry she didn't want to acknowledge Jack anymore. She didn't have the time to think about anything else.

"John, what do you mean?"

John analyzed, "Jack was framed by Richard before and almost didn't make it out. After Richard broke out, he took Jack with him. I'm thinking, even if Jack lacked fatherly love, he wouldn't truly recognize a criminal as his father."

Following John's words, Aurora began to see things more clearly.
