Chapter 417 Truly a Feast for the Eyes

Aurora shook her head, her face calm and composed. "Alright, I'll do it."

She took a few steps toward the reservoir and added, "By the way, when you get back, tell Black Hawk that for the past twenty years, I've been raising someone who doesn't know gratitude. If he doesn't stop, even if he dies in front of me one day, I won't blink or shed a tear. I know his capabilities well. Going up against Nightfall is just plain stupid. If he tries to avenge that person and ends up dead, it's his own damn fault."

With that, Aurora leaped into the reservoir.

Jay was momentarily stunned. He rushed to the edge and looked down, seeing that Aurora had indeed jumped.

The reservoir was deep, and unless someone was an excellent swimmer, survival seemed unlikely.

Jay stood by the reservoir for a moment and said, "We can't let the leader know about this. Just say Ms. White accidentally fell in."

"Got it!"

"Let's go."

Aurora swam vigorously towards the opposite shore. By the time she climbed out, she was exhausted, collapsing on the ground and looking back at the spot where she had jumped.

Jay had already left with his men.

God had favored her once again. Sometimes, learning an extra skill really could save your life.

"Aurora."

John hurried over, wrapping his coat around Aurora and anxiously touching her forehead.

"I'm fine, just lucky," Aurora said with a bitter smile.

John's face was stern as he scolded, "You knew it was dangerous, so why did you follow? If you stayed in the Ironclad Union, no one would dare touch you."

Aurora realized that John knew the secret she was aware of.

Aurora sneezed and said, "If I didn't leave, whether he found you or you went after him, it's not something I wanted to see. John, why did it come to this? Why did he take this path?"

She couldn't understand Jack anymore.

John remained silent, his lips pressed together. Aurora felt a tightness in her chest. "Earlier, I wanted to rush to him, to question him, to wake him up. But then I thought it was pointless. I watched him grow up. He loved racing, even risking his life for it. No matter how many times I told him, he wouldn't listen. I couldn't persuade him then, and I can't persuade him now."

"Get in the car and change out of those wet clothes. Be careful not to catch a cold."

John didn't care why Jack had taken this path.

There were only men's clothes in the car, so Aurora wore them for now. John adjusted the temperature inside the car, and she didn't feel cold.

After changing, Aurora leaned against the seat, staring at the car's ceiling. "John, what are you looking for in the Ironclad Union? When did you find out Black Hawk is Jack?"

"Richard left behind a shipment. Jack should have mentioned it to you."

Aurora's eyes shifted. "He did."

"That shipment is weapons," John said. "Smuggling weapons only leads to one outcome."

Aurora was shocked and cursed, "Jack is out of his mind. This is practically suicide. Have you found the shipment?"

John shook his head. "At first, I thought it was at the Ironclad Union headquarters. After investigating, it's not there. Jack is more cunning than Richard. Maybe the shipment has been sold, or maybe it's hidden somewhere."

"I need to go back. I need to find Jack."

If Jack were standing right in front of her, Aurora would desperately try to snap him out of it.

"It's useless, Aurora. You can't control this anymore," John said, holding her back. "He can't turn back, and you can only watch him go down this dark path."

Aurora felt deflated. John was right; there was nothing she could do.

"Let's head back to Silvercrest City."

Aurora nodded numbly and rested against the seat.

She remained silent throughout the journey. By the time they reached Silvercrest City, it was already dark.

John took her to Meadowbrook Villa.

As soon as they entered the yard, Aurora smelled barbecue. Following the scent, she saw Lori, Ava, and Todd grilling.

Lori waved excitedly when she saw Aurora. "Aurora, you're back so soon. John really gets things done quickly. Come on, the meat's ready. Let's eat."

Aurora looked heartbroken. "Lori, I was waiting for you to rescue me, but here you are, heartlessly enjoying a barbecue. It really hurts."

"Aurora, as Todd says, getting caught is just part of the job. You'll get used to it." Lori draped an arm around Aurora's shoulder with a mischievous smile. "This was just a chance for you and John to make up. See, you're back together now."

"You're not worried about my life being at risk out there? That was the Ironclad Union."

"The Ironclad Union is nothing. It's just a fledgling organization compared to Nightfall. John has been in the Ironclad Union for so long without being discovered. Their strength is all show." Lori took a bite of the barbecue. "Todd said if the Ironclad Union dared to touch you, John would flatten their headquarters."

Aurora glanced at Lori. "Something's off. You keep mentioning Todd. When did you two get so close?"

"Aurora, if two people can't be a couple, they can still be friends."

At that moment, Todd called out, holding up some grilled beef. "Lori, your meat's ready. Aurora, come sit and eat."

John walked over and took Aurora's hand. "You guys eat. Aurora's tired and needs to rest."

With that, he led Aurora away.

Lori watched them leave and said, "There they go, showing off their love again."

Todd glanced at his drink, then handed it to Lori. "Freshly brewed fruit wine. Try some."

"Damn, Todd, you have hidden reserves." Lori took a sip. "It has a light fragrance, tastes good, but no alcohol."

"This wine doesn't hit you at first, but the aftereffects are strong. You'll feel it soon."

Todd smiled slyly, like a fox, savoring his own bottle of fruit wine.

Lori peered at the bottle's opening. "Todd, you didn't spike this, did you? Trying to take advantage of me?"

Todd raised his hand in assurance. "Relax, I didn't tamper with it. Everyone gets a bottle. I'm straightforward and never do anything shady. Just hope someone doesn't try to take advantage of me under the influence."

As he spoke, Todd loosened his collar and started eating and drinking.

Todd didn't have muscles, but his chest looked soft and inviting, making one feel an urge to take a bite.

Lori actually preferred men without muscles. Hard bodies weren't enjoyable to touch.

True strength in a man wasn't about muscle mass.

Lori couldn't help but glance again, thinking, 'Oh my god, this is definitely seduction.'Lori quickly chanted in her mind, 'I can't see, I can't see.'
