Chapter 42 The Grand Family Reunion Banquet Begins
What a small world!
That car was Daniel's.
Daniel used to wait for her downstairs in his car, even parking in the exact spot. This scene was all too familiar to Aurora.
Daniel had originally intended to leave, but when he saw Emily, he stopped the car.
He didn't expect Emily to be there.
Aurora smiled meaningfully at Emily and said, "I guess you're not in the mood to go shopping anymore."
Following Aurora's gaze, Emily saw Daniel's car and almost lost her composure on the spot.
'Daniel actually came here to find that bitch Aurora.' Emily thought.
Ignoring Emily's jealousy, Aurora said to Ashley, "Mrs. Robinson, let's go."
"Sure, the smell here is too strong. If I stay a few more seconds, I might throw up." Ashley, being straightforward and of high status, didn't need to consider Emily's feelings.
Emily's face turned red with anger. As soon as Aurora and Ashley left, she saw Daniel trying to drive away. Her pent-up anger exploded, and she rushed to block the car, venting all her fury on Daniel.
"What are you doing here? Are you here to see Aurora? She pushed you into the water, and you still come to find her. What does she have that I don't?"
Emily was on the verge of losing her mind. What she fought so hard for was worthless in Aurora's eyes.
She wanted the Harris family's recognition, to no longer be an illegitimate child, but Percy refused to acknowledge her.
Yet Aurora effortlessly gained the Robinson family's favor, becoming Kevin's adopted daughter and entering high society.
Emily was consumed with jealousy.
Daniel slammed on the brakes, his anger also rising. "Emily, you're crazy. Do you have a death wish?"
"Your heart is with that bitch Aurora. How can I not go crazy?" Emily clung to the car door, refusing to let Daniel leave. "I forbid you to see her again."
"What's that smell? It's awful." Daniel also smelled the fishy odor on Emily. Being a clean freak, Daniel showed his disgust. Seeing Emily's outfit, revealing her short, stubby legs, made him even more nauseous.
He couldn't help but think of Aurora's image, a true beauty.
Seeing Daniel's look of disdain, Emily's face darkened as if she had been slapped, and her face flushed.
"Aurora forced me to kill fish, making me reek of fish. She did it on purpose to make things difficult for me."
Daniel sneered, not feeling sorry for her at all but instead mocking her. "You stole her husband on her wedding night, and you expect her to be nice to you? You brought this on yourself."
"Daniel, I'm your wife." Emily stomped her foot in anger.
"Stop pretending in front of me. We both know why I accepted you. If I had known Percy never intended to acknowledge you, I wouldn't have married you."
Daniel now deeply regretted it. Aurora was about to become Kevin's adopted daughter. With the Robinson family's support, his position as heir would be secure.
If Emily couldn't help him, he wouldn't waste any more time.
"What do you mean, Daniel?" Emily panicked. "Uncle Harris never said he wouldn't acknowledge me. He will. He loves me the most."
"I'll give you three more months. If you still can't get Percy to acknowledge you, we'll divorce. Let's not waste each other's time." Daniel was ruthless.
With that, Daniel started the car and drove off.
Caught off guard, Emily was dragged to the ground by inertia. She stared at Daniel's departing car, a look of malice in her eyes. "Daniel, one day, I'll make you regret this. I'll make you beg on your knees."
Aurora and Ashley went to a beauty salon for skincare treatments and then to a boutique to pick up Aurora's custom-made dress.
It was a sleeveless, starry nightgown with a long train.
When Aurora tried it on, Ashley was stunned. "Oh my God! It's so beautiful."
Aurora couldn't believe it either. She looked stunning in the mirror.
The dress was so beautiful, making Aurora look radiant and ethereal.
Even the staff couldn't stop praising her.
"Miss White, you look absolutely stunning in this dress. Like a fairy."
"Absolutely, with that figure and skin, even I, as a woman, am envious."
Hearing the compliments, Ashley felt a sense of pride. "My adopted daughter is the most beautiful in the world. Now, bring out your store's treasure for her to try on."
"Of course, Mrs. Robinson." The staff went to get it.
Aurora changed out of the starry nightgown and waited for the staff to bring the store's treasure. Suddenly, she saw a familiar face through the window.
Across the street were Todd and Summer.
Todd was carrying bags, following Summer around like a servant.
Kids these days were so hard to please. Summer didn't want to go to amusement parks or arcades, not even the stables. Instead, he spent half the day in a library.
He didn't act like a kid at all, making Todd seem more childish than a five-year-old.
The bags were full of books, not comic books, but medical books that even adults find difficult.
What book didn't Plum Blossom Island have?
Summer insisted on buying these books, so Todd had to carry them.
"Are you hungry? Want to grab something to eat?" Todd asked with a grin.
Summer glanced at Todd. "Are you hungry?"
"It's already noon," Todd replied sheepishly, indeed feeling quite hungry.
"Alright then." Summer smacked his lips and stared at the KFC in front of them. "I want KFC."
Todd smiled. "No problem."
Finally, Summer had a bit of childlike behavior.
Under the sunlight, Summer's face looked even fairer and more delicate, making people want to pinch his cheeks. Wherever they went, they attracted a lot of attention, with many pretty ladies and young women coming over to chat.
Todd felt quite dejected. What was wrong with the world? A handsome guy like him was sitting there, and no one paid him any attention; they all flocked to the kid.
Aurora, from a distance, couldn't clearly see Summer's face, only vaguely making out that he was a four or five-year-old boy.
Why was Todd with a child?
Aurora didn't know why, but she felt compelled to keep her eyes on Summer in the KFC across the street, her feet subconsciously moving towards the door.
"Aurora, where are you going? The dress is ready. Try it on and let me see if it fits," Ashley said, smiling as she pulled Aurora towards the fitting room.
"Oh, okay." Aurora snapped out of it and went into the fitting room.
When she came out again, Todd and the child were no longer in sight.
Aurora and Ashley shopped all day and didn't get home until nine in the evening.
She was exhausted, collapsing onto the bed to rest. Only then did she realize she hadn't heard from John all day.
The banquet was tomorrow, and Aurora hoped John could go with her.
Aurora found John's number and called, but no one answered.
Frowning, Aurora sent John a message: [Are you coming to the banquet tomorrow?]
The message seemed to disappear into the void, with no reply for a long time.
At that moment, Aurora realized that her sweetness with John only existed within these walls. Outside of this room, she didn't even know where John lived, let alone where to find him.
Aurora sat on the bed, thinking for a long time. Eventually, she was too tired and fell asleep.
John called back the next day at noon. "I was on a long drive and didn't see your call. I can't make it to the party."
Aurora replied, "It's okay."
After a night, Aurora wasn't as disappointed. Hearing the GPS directions in the background, she said, "Drive safely."
John responded, "Will do!"
With those brief words, they hung up.
Aurora stared at her phone, exhaling deeply. After freshening up, she went to the hospital to pick up Jack.
Night fell.
At eight in the evening, Kevin hosted the banquet at Royal Hills Manor, inviting many political and business elites. It was a grand and prestigious event.
Major media outlets were present, eager to get the first scoop.
The hall was filled with the allure of champagne and the presence of big names.
Everyone was eagerly anticipating, curious about the person Kevin had chosen as his adopted daughter.
At the manor's entrance, Dean and Nicole got out of the car but were stopped at the entrance.
They didn't have invitations.
The people entering and exiting were all from the business and political circles. Dean stood at the door, his face red with embarrassment.
Dean, thick-skinned, smiled and said, "I'm Dean. The adopted daughter Mr. Kevin Robinson is acknowledging today is my daughter, Aurora."
The security guard sneered. "Which Dean? Never heard of you. You say Mr. Kevin Robinson's adopted daughter is your daughter, but where's the proof? No invitation, no entry. Who knows if you're just some scammer trying to sneak in for free food and drinks?"
The guard's words made Dean's face burn with shame.
Many passersby stopped to watch the spectacle, and some recognized Dean, making him feel even more humiliated.
Dean, angry and embarrassed, said, "How dare you speak to me like that? Open your eyes and look carefully. Do I look like someone who needs to sneak in for free food and drinks? I'm the chairman of White Group. My daughter is Mr. Kevin Robinson's adopted daughter. Why can't I go in?"
The head guard said, "No invitation, no entry. If you keep causing trouble, I'll call security."
Someone nearby asked, "Mr. White, didn't your younger daughter marry into the Taylor family? And didn't you sever ties with your elder daughter recently? Which daughter is Mr. Kevin Robinson acknowledging today?"
"Yeah, Mr. White, tell us. How many daughters do you have?"
"If your daughter is really Mr. Kevin Robinson's adopted daughter, why didn't you get an invitation?"
"The invitation got lost," Dean said, feeling panicked. The Robinson family hadn't given him an invitation at all.
Dean hadn't expected to be stopped at the door, becoming a laughingstock.
Nicole felt utterly embarrassed. Many familiar faces from the socialite circle were there, including women she played cards with and shopped with.
If they couldn't get in, how could she hold her head up in the circle?
Nicole kept her head down, trying to stand as far away as possible to avoid being recognized.
"I'll call my daughter and have her come get me," Dean said, determined to save face.
He was sure Aurora wouldn't dare not come. Otherwise, rejecting her biological father while trying to climb up to the Robinson family would earn her the reputation of being ungrateful and heartless.
