Chapter 161 Release the Dogs
People always said that knowing yourself and your enemy made you unbeatable.
Aurora's love rival had shown up, ready to take her down. But Aurora didn't even know the woman's real name, which put her at a serious disadvantage.
Aurora asked Lori seriously, and Lori, just as seriously, replied, "I don't know."
Aurora was left speechless.
"Wait, aren't you the top fighter in the Wolfpack?"
On the way back, Lori had bragged to Aurora about her skills.
Lori looked innocent. "I'm just a fighter, not an intel person. My uncle handles all that. Plus, I take jobs on the side. Sometimes I use my uncle's name, so people think I'm part of the Wolfpack, but I'm really just a nominal member. If you want, I can ask my uncle to get someone to look into it."
Aurora had seen Lori in action; she was definitely a powerhouse.
"Alright, ask him for me later." Aurora, satisfied, pinched Loren's cheek and said, "Loren, go to sleep. Mommy's gonna call John."
Hearing "John," Loren asked, "Mommy, isn't John my Daddy?"
Since Aurora was Mommy, John must be Daddy.
Aurora said, "Not yet, Loren. It's a bit complicated. John told a little lie to protect you and Mommy. But someday, he will be your Daddy."
A stepdad was still a dad.
Loren sighed deeply and spread his hands. "Good thing I didn't get my hopes up. The adult world is really complicated."
Loren's expression made Aurora and Lori laugh.
Lori thought this kid was really amusing.
Aurora had Ashley take Loren to rest, and she called John to ask about the investigation.
At the hotel.
By the time the police arrived, Todd and Summer had almost wrapped up the case.
The police didn't even need to do much, just go through the motions.
All the hotel surveillance footage had been reviewed, and after Todd and Summer's analysis, the suspect was identified.
Emily thought she had done it flawlessly, but within a few hours, her assault on Helen was exposed.
Emily had chosen a blind spot in the surveillance, but from Helen leaving the hall to the lobby and back, the surveillance showed only Emily following Helen out. The footage also showed Emily fleeing in a panic after the attack.
When John learned it was Emily, a flash of murderous intent crossed his eyes. "Looks like she wants to die."
Todd said, "Boss, Nightfall's rule is not to kill pregnant women or children. Emily is pregnant, it's not good to do it."
Emily had attacked and put Helen in a dangerous situation, so killing her wouldn't be excessive.
But Nightfall's people never killed pregnant women or children.
Even a finger couldn't make Emily learn her lesson.
John's eyes narrowed slightly. "Send her to prison, let her keep Nicole company."
After being released on bail, Emily repeatedly broke the law and seriously injured Helen, so the police naturally wouldn't let such a dangerous person remain free.
The police immediately dispatched officers to arrest Emily.
John coldly ordered, "Sam, Tyler, you two go help."
The head of the criminal team said, "Mr. Lewis, we have enough officers. Arresting one woman is more than enough."
They didn't dare to ask the Lewis Family for help, as it would make the police look incompetent; however, since Todd and Summer caught the culprit, the police wanted to make a good impression during the arrest.
John said, "Assisting you in solving cases is the duty of every law-abiding citizen."
The head of the criminal team couldn't say anything more.
John never took Emily seriously, but such pests always came out to annoy people. John wasn't a saint to let Emily run rampant.
Tyler and Sam went to make the arrest with the police, and the next ones John had to deal with were Rex and Wade.
Those two had already been taken back to the Lewis Mansion.
Todd asked, "Boss, how's Mrs. Lewis?"
"Still in a coma, not sure when she'll wake up." John looked at Summer. "Are you coming back to the Lewis Mansion with me, or going to the Robinson family's?"
Summer said, "I'll go with you."
This was a family matter, so Todd knew it wasn't his place to follow.
John took Summer back to the Lewis Mansion.
On the way, John said, "About what I said at the birthday banquet..."
"I know you said those things to protect Aurora," Summer cut in. He never believed he was John's son anyway.
Since Summer didn't take it seriously, John didn't feel the need to explain further. The things said at the birthday banquet were indeed fabricated by John to protect Aurora.
"But Aurora is really your mom." John believed Sandra's paternity test and Aurora's words.
Summer's eyes lit up, "Really?"
From the first time Summer met Aurora, he had hoped she was his mom. Now, his dream had come true.
John nodded, "Yes."
Summer smiled contentedly, "That's great."
He didn't say much, but his words were filled with emotion. He was thrilled that Aurora was his mom.
Back at the Lewis Mansion.
Lloydhadn't slept, waiting for news.
Rex and Wade were also on edge. They wanted to leave, but John's men were guarding the door.
As Wade paced back and forth, Rex said, "Wade, why don't you go and humble yourself before Grandpa? If John comes back, he won't let us off easily. Only Grandpa can stop him."
"There's no use saying that now. We know what John's like." Wade looked into the endless night, a hint of self-mockery in his voice, "John's been playing a big game. I used to suspect his illness was fake and even had a doctor check, but nothing was found. He hid it well."
It was Wade's impatience that led him into John's trap.
The sound of a car engine shutting off in the yard made the father and son tense up.
Rex said, "It's John."
Lloyd, in the upstairs room, also heard the car and came downstairs.
John walked into the hall with Summer, and Lloyd asked, "John, is your mom okay?"
"Out of danger," John said, then turned to Summer, "Summer, take Lloyd back to his room to rest."
Since John had acknowledged Summer as his son in public, he had to maintain the father-son relationship in public.
"Yes, Daddy." Summer walked up to Lloyd, "Lloyd, I'll take you back to your room."
Lloyd knew what John was going to do and only said, "Just leave them alive."
The implication was that as long as they were alive, John could do whatever he wanted.
Wade and Rex immediately panicked upon hearing this.
Wade called out, "Grandpa."
Rex said, "Dad, you can't just ignore us. John is ruthless."
Lloyd went upstairs without looking back, trusting that John would know his limits.
Once Lloyd left, John ordered, "Lock all the doors and windows."
"Yes, Mr. Lewis."
John's men quickly locked all the doors and windows.
"John, we're cousin. This is all a misunderstanding. Let me explain," Wade said, thinking John was about to make a move and trying to deflect.
Rex took on a senior's tone. "John, I'm your uncle."
"Don't worry, Rex. I won't touch you." John didn't even raise an eyebrow, coldly curling his lips and saying, "Release the dogs."
Wade and Rex paused for a moment, and realized what happened when John's men brought in four bullmastiffs. Their legs went weak.
The four bullmastiffs had been hungry for a long time. Seeing Rex and his son, their eyes turned red, and they roared, a sound that could scare the courage out of anyone.
At John's command, the four bullmastiffs lunged at Rex and his son.
Rex finally understood John's words. John indeed wouldn't touch him, but these bullmastiffs could strip him of his skin.
The howls of the bullmastiffs echoed through the sky above the Lewis Mansion, drowning out the screams of Rex and Wade.
John calmly sipped his tea, watching Rex and his son being chased and cornered by the bullmastiffs.
