Chapter 221 Jennifer Knows Aurora is Pregnant
Alexander was all worked up and blurted out, "Aurora, I'm really your dad." His desperate tone and hopeful eyes made him seem pretty genuine.
Aurora bit her lip. She had a feeling Alexander had some ulterior motive, but it was strange how he had let them go so easily before. If he really was her dad, though, it would explain a lot.
"Lori, should we believe him?" Aurora asked Lori, feeling unsure.
Lori replied, "Aurora, whether you believe him or not, don't just accept him as your dad right away."
Aurora nodded. "Yeah, you're right."
Just then, Ava jumped in, "Lori, Aurora's the leader of the Wolfpack and has the Nightfall leader as her guy. If the head of The Shadow of Darkness is her dad, Aurora's got some serious backing."
Aurora and Lori suddenly realized the truth. If Alexander was really her dad, Aurora's status would skyrocket.
Seeing Aurora stay quiet for a while, Alexander thought she didn't believe him and said anxiously, "Aurora, if you don't believe me, we can do a paternity test."
Right then, Richard's voice came from outside. "Alexander, how dare you show up here? Take your stuff and get out."
Richard threw out the things Alexander had brought. "You caused my sister's death, and I won't let you off easy. You almost got Aurora killed too. She won't acknowledge you. Now leave."
"I'm claiming my own daughter. What's it to you?" Alexander said, "Aurora is my daughter with Wendy. I didn't know before. If I had known, how could I have let her be in danger?"
"Get out now, or I'll make you." Richard pushed Alexander and whispered, "If you really care about Aurora and want to make up for it, stop messing with her life." Then he told his guys, "Throw Alexander out."
Jennifer couldn't take it anymore and snapped, "How dare you treat my dad like this? Aurora, even if you don't acknowledge him, you can't treat him this way."
"Get out." Richard threw the gifts at their feet.
"Dad, let's go!" Jennifer defended Alexander, though she was secretly pleased. She didn't want Aurora to accept Alexander. She couldn't stand the idea of being half-sisters with Aurora.
Alexander knew Aurora wouldn't accept him now, so he had to leave.
Once they were gone, Richard shut the gate and, after checking to make sure they were really gone, finally relaxed.
"Richard, what's going on?" Aurora asked, "Why did you tell Alexander I was his daughter?"
"Let's go inside first," Richard said.
They went inside and sat on the couch, all eyes on Richard, waiting for an explanation.
Richard was quiet for a moment and then said, "I lied to him. When I heard Alexander had captured you, I had no choice but to use this tactic. Otherwise, how could I have gotten you out so easily? I didn't expect Alexander to come looking for you. He actually thinks Wendy would have his child."
Aurora couldn't help but admire him. "Richard, you're something else."
Lori said, "Richard, no wonder you went in alone before. You used this trick to save her."
Ava said, "Now that Alexander believes it, he'll definitely come back to claim Aurora. Should Aurora accept him or not?"
Richard quickly said, "We definitely can't accept him. He's dreaming."
Aurora pursed her lips and said, "Lies will eventually come out. When he comes back next time, we'll tell him the truth."
She didn't want Alexander to acknowledge her.
"Aurora, you must be tired. Why don't you go rest?" Lori said, then looked at Summer. "Summer, help your mom upstairs to rest."
Aurora was indeed exhausted and went upstairs to rest with Summer.
Once they were gone, Lori walked up to Richard and said, "Richard, you weren't completely honest back there. Alexander isn't dumb; he wouldn't fall for just a few words. If Wendy really didn't have any kind of relationship with Alexander, why would he believe it?"
Richard glared at Lori, "What do you mean by 'relationship'? Alexander tricked Wendy."
"Richard, when it comes to being sneaky, no one beats you," Lori said. "Come on, there's more to this story."
Richard felt a bit exasperated. Having a cunning and curious niece was definitely a hassle.
After thinking for a moment, Richard said, "Aurora's mom did have a thing with Alexander. Alexander was stubborn, and Aurora's mom was headstrong too. After a big fight, Alexander left the Wolfpack to start his own group. They didn't talk for a year. Later, when Aurora's mom heard Alexander was in trouble, she went to The Shadow of Darkness to find him."
Lori interrupted, "Did they hook up then?"
Richard didn't answer directly. "After Aurora's mom came back from The Shadow of Darkness, she got pregnant soon after. But she had a miscarriage and lost the baby. After that, she left and never came back."
Lori listened intently, "Then Aurora's current dad married Wendy and had Aurora."
"This all happened over twenty years ago. Aurora's mom has passed away. Why she ended up with Aurora's current dad doesn't matter anymore." Richard sighed, "When someone's heart dies, it doesn't matter who they're with." He shook his head and walked away.
Lori muttered, "With so many fun and delicious things in the world, why get tangled up in love?"
Ava chimed in, "Didn't you avoid men because you were heartbroken?"
Lori immediately wailed, "Oh my God, you still remember that? I had forgotten."
"Stop it. Your memory is better than anyone's. How could you forget? That was your first love."
"Stop it. That doesn't count as first love," Lori denied immediately.
A few years ago, when Lori was at the age of first love, she had a crush on a man in the Wolfpack, who was specially invited by Richard from abroad.
The man was gentle, elegant, and knowledgeable. Lori admired him greatly and, being outgoing, directly confessed her feelings.
The man pretended to be reserved and played hard to get, enjoying Lori's pursuit and admiration while rejecting her twice.
Lori, not one to give up easily, vowed to succeed in her pursuit. So she tied the man up on a boat and confessed for the third time, which finally succeeded.
But soon after, Lori discovered that the man couldn't stand waiting until marriage and cheated, taking several women to a hotel.
Lori, being straightforward, broke up with him immediately. The man begged for forgiveness, but Lori was so angry that she kicked his genitals on the spot.
Ava said, "You don't like Todd because he looks like your first love, right?"
"That's not true. I've long forgotten about that man." Lori covered her face. "I swear."
"Then tell me, do you still like that type of man?"
"What type?"
"The gentle, frail type that triggers your protective instinct," Ava analyzed seriously, "I think it's because you have a heroic and just heart, so you like frail men."
Lori covered her face again. "I'm going to sleep."
The next day, Aurora went to the hospital early in the morning.
Todd had stayed up all night. Seeing Aurora arrive, he stretched and said, "Mr. Lewis is all yours now. I'm going to get some sleep."
Aurora nodded. "Thanks."
"No big deal," Todd said. "Ms. White, don't overwork yourself. The doctor said you should rest in bed because the fetus is still unstable."
"Yeah, I know."
"Good, then I'm off."
Todd walked towards the elevator, while Aurora walked towards the ward. Neither of them noticed that their conversation was overheard by a third person.
Jennifer had originally come to visit John but unexpectedly heard the news of Aurora's pregnancy.
