Chapter 357: On the Importance of Genetic Inheritance

Todd looked at John with admiration; he hadn't even noticed how John had quickly fixed the problem.

Despite such a major upheaval, John didn't let grief cloud his judgment and quickly analyzed the entire event.

Luring John away from Silvercrest City left Helen and Aurora alone.

It wasn't hard to guess the other party's intention: kill Helen, frame Aurora, and ruin Aurora's reputation.

However, the other party didn't anticipate that Aurora and Lori would switch identities.

It was Lori who went to the bar, while Aurora was the one tracking the car with the fake license plate.

Todd muttered to himself, "It's too complicated. If it were me, my brain wouldn't be able to handle it. Mr. Lewis, did you really never suspect Mrs. Lewis?"

John glanced at Todd, "She's my wife. If I suspect anyone, it certainly wouldn't be her."

Trust like that was fundamental. Without it, a marriage would crumble.

Moreover, John had checked Helen's call records and found some clues.

Before Helen died, she received calls from two unknown numbers.

Lori also said that Aurora went to Azure Dragon Peak because she received a message from the kidnappers, and he went there for the same reason. So, Helen must have gone to Virtual Bridge because she received a message.

These things, with such a clumsy setup, could be figured out even with a little thought.

Now that Aurora was missing, John was worried that she might be in danger.

Sandra's methods weren't sophisticated, but they were cruel.

John moved the computer aside and pulled out the needle from his hand, "Go prepare the car."

"Mr. Lewis, you're injured; you should rest."

"Even if I have only one breath left, I can't just lie here."

Aurora had become a fugitive, and within half an hour, the news was all over the internet.

The story of

Aurora killing her mother-in-law sparked a wave of criticism online, with everyone saying Aurora was ungrateful and malicious.

Lori was furious as she read the comments. She wanted to fight back, but with millions of netizens, she couldn't keep up. What she needed to do now was find Aurora.

Kevin and his wife were shocked to learn that Helen was dead and Aurora was missing.

In just one night, the Lewis family was torn apart.

Lloyd also fell ill, and Gary was in a frenzy.

Summer and Loren stayed at home, as John ordered that the two brothers were not allowed to go anywhere.

Dean, upon hearing about the incident, first went to the Lewis Villa to check on Lloyd and then went to find John, but he missed him.

Alexander, who was guarding the cemetery, saw the news and slumped in front of Wendy's grave, heartbroken, "Do these two sisters have to fight to the death?"

Alexander's mind was clear. From the lost child to Helen's incident and Aurora being labeled a suspect, he knew he couldn't let Sandra continue her reckless behavior.

Alexander sighed deeply, feeling it was his own fault.

He touched the tombstone, "Wendy, our daughter is in trouble. I can't stay here any longer. I'll leave for a while and come back to be with you once things are settled."

Before he finished speaking, a woman's voice suddenly came from behind him.

"When I was alive, you never talked to me this much. Now you're chatting up a tombstone."

Hearing this, Alexander turned around abruptly.

Ten feet away, Wendy stood in a dress, staring coldly at him.

Alexander had always said that Wendy looked best in a dress, the epitome of femininity.

Wendy had arrived in Silvercrest City a few days ago and was only now coming to see Alexander.

They hadn't seen each other for over twenty years. When their eyes met, Wendy's eyes welled up with tears.

She had thought her heart was calm, but seeing the man she loved again stirred it like a stormy sea, warming her from within.

Wendy hadn't changed much in over two decades; she was well-maintained. However, her overall demeanor had softened, no longer sharp and prickly like a hedgehog.

Alexander couldn't believe his eyes. He rubbed them repeatedly, as if to make sure she was real.

"Wendy?" Alexander didn't dare blink, "Am I hallucinating?"

She had been dead for over ten years, the tombstone was right there, but she was standing alive in front of him. If this were the middle of the night, it would scare someone to death.

"Alexander, speak properly. I'm still alive and well," Wendy's tone was exactly the same as when she was a young girl over twenty years ago, "Samuel cured my illness. If you're alive and well, how could I die before you?"

"Wendy," Alexander cried with excitement, "What kind of game are you playing? If you weren't dead, why did you deceive me? You made me guard your tombstone and cry at my old age."

Wendy's face darkened, "When I was alive, I never saw you shed a tear. Why are you crying now? It's pathetic."

Alexander was so emotional that he was in tears, "Isn't it because of those letters you wrote? You never told me you liked me before."

"Who said I liked you?" Wendy still wouldn't admit it, "I could like anyone, but I wouldn't like someone as self-righteous as you."

"If you didn't like me, why did you have Aurora?" Alexander said, "We're both old now, stop being stubborn."

Wendy was furious, "Are you saying I'm old?"

"Together, we're over a hundred years old. Aren't we supposed to accept it? Look at the wrinkles on your face; they could pinch an ant to death."

"Alexander, are you looking for a beating?"

"How do you two still argue like before? I don't know how you managed to have Aurora," Samuel walked over, "Aurora is missing. You two should take a break."

Thinking of Aurora, Alexander and Wendy temporarily stopped arguing.

Wendy voiced, "For the sake of our daughter, I won't argue with you."

Alexander replied, "For the sake of our daughter, I won't hold it against you."

Wendy glared at Alexander. Decades of composure shattered in front of him.

"It's all because of your good daughter, Alexander. If Sandra dares to hurt my daughter and grandson, I won't show any mercy."

Wendy had figured out the situation in Silvercrest City over the past few days, which was why she came to find Alexander.

Alexander felt guilty about the whole thing, so his tone softened, "I might have a way to find Sandra."

Aurora had been unconscious all night and only woke up the next day at noon.

When she opened her eyes, the unfamiliar surroundings sent a wave of panic through her.

The room was simple—a wardrobe, a table, and a bed. That was it.

Someone had knocked her out, but she was free; her hands and feet weren't tied, so it didn't seem like a kidnapping.

The room also had a lived-in feel, with men's clothes hanging on the wall.

Aurora touched the back of her head, which still ached, and fragments of memory from before she passed out started to come back.

"Mom." Aurora called out, not caring why she was there, and got out of bed.

She opened the door to leave, but when she saw the person at the door, her eyes widened in shock.
