Chapter 442 The Reflection on the Car Window
Silently taking lives, it's practically killing without a trace.
Aurora's face went pale. "What virus? Can it be treated?"
Gary hesitated. "I can't promise anything. I need to take samples and try to develop a medication within three months. The catch is, Lori has to hold on until then. The virus in her body might mutate due to various factors."
Aurora's heart sank. "Mr. Collins, how confident are you? John once said that even a ten percent chance with you means a fifty percent success rate."
Gary replied humbly, "I'm not that amazing; they're just flattering me."
"Flattery or not, Mr. Collins, do whatever it takes to keep Lori alive. And for now, don't tell her. I'm afraid she won't be able to handle it."
Suddenly telling Lori she only has three months to live would be too cruel.
"Understood. That's why I told you first, Aurora. Prepare yourself mentally. I can't promise anything."
Aurora pleaded, "Please, do your best."
After meeting with Gary, Aurora lingered in the hallway for a while, trying to compose herself before heading to the hospital room.
Todd had woken up and was playing with building blocks, with Lori by his side.
Despite finding it childish, Lori sat next to him, occasionally offering praise.
Todd, with the intelligence of a three-year-old, was easily satisfied. A single compliment could make him happy for half a day.
Lori sighed and pinched Todd's cheek. "You used to argue with me when your brain was normal. Now that it's messed up, you still drag me along. I must've owed you in a past life, String Bean. You'd better recover soon. I don't have the patience to treat you like my son. How am I supposed to flirt with handsome guys with you as a burden?"
Todd grinned foolishly. "Fairy, I want some fruit."
"All you do is eat. Here, take this."
Lori's knife skills were top-notch. She quickly peeled an apple and handed it to Todd, her face full of affection, which she herself didn't even notice.
Aurora stood at the door for a moment before walking in. Lori stood up and asked, "Aurora, why are you still at the hospital so late?"
"John's discussing something with Mr. Collins. I'm waiting for him." Aurora lied smoothly, "The test results are out. Everything's fine."
"I knew it. So many doctors have checked me and said I'm normal."
Aurora asked, "Where's Ava?"
"She went home to get me some clothes." Lori shrugged and glanced at Todd. "I have to take care of him. I owe him."
"Alright, I'm heading out. Get some rest."
Aurora didn't dare stay longer, fearing she might lose control of her emotions and let Lori notice something was wrong.
As Aurora left the hospital, she saw that John had indeed arrived.
John was on the phone with Sam. Aurora approached just in time to hear Sam say, "Karolyn is missing, Mr. Lewis. I lost her."
Even Sam, who was personally tracking her, lost her. This Karolyn must be something else.
Seeing Aurora, John told Sam, "Don't bother looking for her. Just stay at the hospital."
He hung up the phone.
Aurora said, "This Karolyn seems really suspicious."
"Did Gary call you over because something happened with Lori?"
"Yes, Mr. Collins said Lori has a severe virus. If he can't develop a medication, Lori might not make it past three months." Aurora's voice was filled with worry. "I saw the footage of Lori being taken. Those two injected her with something. I want to ask Jack personally what they injected."
Jack clearly wanted Lori dead, which made Aurora feel both heartbroken and furious.
"I'll go with you. Jack is dangerous. You can't meet him alone anymore."
To John, nothing was more important than Aurora's safety.
Aurora felt a warmth in her heart. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
Aurora held John's hand, intertwining their fingers. "Honey, thank you for being so understanding."
"You're my wife. It's my duty to take care of you." John, ever the gentleman, opened the car door. "Mrs. Lewis, please get in."
Aurora smiled and got into the car.
John closed the door and was about to get into the driver's seat when a familiar figure reflected in the car window, instantly putting him on high alert.
