Chapter 60 The Mysterious Men
Aurora bit her lip. For the year-end bonus, she still pushed John inside.
After all, John held her financial lifeline.
There were still people in the men's restroom. Suddenly, a woman came in, scaring one guy so much that he almost went limp. He quickly pulled up his pants and left.
Aurora covered her face, feeling extremely embarrassed.
After everyone had left, Aurora turned her back and said, "Let me know when you're done."
John stood up. "Stay here. What if someone comes in?"
At this point, it didn't matter if she stayed a bit longer.
Aurora said, "Then hurry up."
John slowly walked to the urinal, looking at Aurora with her eyes closed and turned to the side, a smile tugging at his lips.
Aurora waited for a long time but didn't hear anything, then she asked, "Are you done yet?"
"Why did you break up?" John asked knowingly.
Aurora was stunned for a moment, instinctively opening her eyes but not turning around. She frowned and said, "Mr. Lewis, that's my personal business."
"Even personal relationships of employees are part of the evaluation. Someone who is fickle in love is likely to be unstable in their career planning. You came from a subsidiary, and if you fail the evaluation, you know the consequences." John stared at Aurora's back. "Are all women so fickle?"
Aurora half-jokingly said, "It's not a good fit. Matters of the heart can't be forced."
"Did you say it wasn't a good fit, or did he?" John pressed.
From beginning to end, it was Aurora who called it off.
"It was me." Aurora felt a bit guilty.
John asked again, "So you wanted to break up?"
Aurora answered, "Yes."
"Did you ever think about whether he wanted to break up?"
"He already agreed," Aurora said, lacking confidence.
She remembered what she said that day. She had been so heartless; any man with self-respect would agree. Who would cling to her?
She had essentially forced the breakup.
"It's for his own good." Aurora pursed her lips. "Better a short pain than a long one. Mr. Lewis, you don't understand matters of the heart."
"How do I not understand? I..." John almost let something slip, then changed his tone with a light snort. "Aurora, you're now Kevin's adopted daughter. Abandoning your ex-boyfriend is because you want to find someone better? It's normal for women to be gold diggers."
"That's nonsense." Aurora was unhappy, reacting strongly and turning back to retort, "If I really wanted to marry a rich guy, I could have married you. Why would I have run away from the wedding? Maybe I would have inherited a fortune by now."
In terms of wealth, no one in Silvercrest City was richer than the Lewis family.
Hearing this, John was stunned.
Inherit a fortune?
John couldn't help but laugh inwardly.
"Are you hoping I die early?"
Aurora realized her mistake and laughed sheepishly. "No, no, Mr. Lewis, you will definitely live a long life. How could you die young?"
John walked towards Aurora with his long legs, his eyes under the mask like those of a cunning fox. "I suddenly really want to marry you. What should I do?"
"Mr. Lewis, don't joke like that." Aurora laughed awkwardly, trying to change the subject. "Weren't you in a hurry to pee? Go quickly.Don't hurt your kidneys by holding it in."
"Miss White, you can try and see if my kidneys are good or not."
Aurora shook her head vigorously. "Mr. Lewis, I misspoke. Mr. Lewis, your kidneys are definitely good, super good."
The more anxious she was, the more mistakes she made.
"Only if you try it yourself will you know if they're good." John reached for Aurora's hand, scaring her into a scream as she quickly ran away.
Watching Aurora flee in panic, John suddenly became delighted.
Back in the private room, Aurora was still shaken and didn't wait for John. She grabbed Loren, who had finished eating, and left.
Aurora ran faster than a leopard, afraid that if she was late, John would catch her.
If John really wanted to marry her, she would have no way out.
Aurora suddenly felt a bit regretful. If she hadn't broken up, John wouldn't have set his sights on her.
Aurora went home and turned off her phone so that she could sleep peacefully.
John returned to the private room, finding it empty. Aurora had escaped, and his mood soured again.
The next day, Aurora took half a day off to take Loren to check out a kindergarten.
She had already made arrangements. The principal looked at Loren andgave him some tests, and Loren passed. So, Loren was admitted.
Aurora was very grateful. After completing the enrollment procedures, she squatted down and said to Loren, "Loren, be good and listen to the teachers at school. I'll pick you up after school, and don't bully other kids, okay?"
Loren was very sensible and waved to Aurora. "Got it. You go to work. I'll wait here for you to pick me up."
Loren grew up in an orphanage and adapted very well. He couldn't be treated like an ordinary child.
After settling Loren, Aurora needed to go somewhere else, the cemetery.
Today was her mother's death anniversary.
Aurora called Jack, asking him to get ready. She would pick him up to go to the cemetery together.
Aurora took a cab to the hospital where Jack lived, only to find Dean and Nicole there too.
Since the banquet, Aurora hadn't had any contact with the White family. Seeing Dean and Nicole suddenly was a bit surprising.
Nicole smiled and said, "Aurora, you're here. Ride with us to the cemetery."
Aurora looked at Dean and asked, "You're letting her go to the cemetery to pay respects to my mom? Do you want my mom to be restless in heaven?"
A mistress paid respects to the wife? What a joke.
Aurora would never agree to Nicole going.
"Nicole isn't going. She just came to see Jack." Dean gave Nicole a look.
Since the banquet, Nicole had been more restrained.
"Yes, your dad is right. I just came to see Jack. You go ahead, and I won't go." Nicole said, "It's getting late. You should go."
Today was her mother's death anniversary, and Aurora didn't want to waste time because of Nicole.
And she couldn't stop Dean from paying respects to her mother.
"Jack, let's go." Aurora didn't take Dean's car but hailed a cab.
Dean's face darkened, but he said nothing.
On the way to the cemetery, Aurora couldn't help but recall some memories of her mother.
Her mother's death had been too sudden. Aurora once believed her mother's death was related to Nicole but never had any evidence.
However, Dean's infidelity and messing around with Nicole was a fact.
Just for Dean's infidelity alone, Aurora couldn't let go of her grudge. She always harbored resentment towards Dean.
The sky was gray and drizzling.
At the cemetery, Aurora got out of the car with flowers, reminding Jack behind her, "The road is slippery.Be careful."
Jack replied, "Got it."
As they walked towards their mother's grave, they suddenly encountered two strange men.
The men looked serious and stern, exuding a murderous aura. They wore black clothes with a white flower pinned to their chests, likely also there to pay respects to someone.
Aurora and Jack stepped aside, but Aurora inadvertently noticed that the men had knives at their waists.
Who were these people?
Aurora's heart sank, and she immediately became alert.
Jack saw it too and instinctively called out, "Aurora."
Aurora quickly signaled Jack to stay quiet.
The two men suddenly turned around, giving Aurora and Jack a sharp look.
Aurora was shocked but didn't move.
The men just glanced at them and walked away.
After they were far enough, Aurora finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Jack, let's go." Aurora didn't want to meddle and didn't care who those men were.
At the cemetery gate, a black car was parked. The two men from the cemetery got in.
The driver respectfully asked, "Mr. Lee, we've found the Miss White's whereabouts. Should we bring her back this time?"
