Chapter 390: The Way to Make a Woman Shut Up, Kiss Her
Aurora had never refused any of Jack's requests. Jack wasn't like others; he was in poor health.
While kids his age were attending school and making friends, Jack was in the hospital, taking medication and undergoing chemotherapy, making the hospital his home.
Aurora always felt a bit guilty. Whatever Jack wanted to eat, have, or do, as long as it didn't hurt his health and she could make it happen, she would agree.
However, Jack wanting to go to Nightfall's training base put Aurora in a difficult choice.
"Jack, I'll discuss this with John when I get home and see what he thinks. Come over for dinner tomorrow night, and I'll let you know the result."
Nightfall's training base was a highly confidential place. If someone wasn't part of Nightfall, they couldn't go there. The island was Nightfall's biggest sanctuary, and the more people who knew about it, the more dangerous it became.
Aurora had to think it over carefully.
"Alright," Jack spoke with a smile. "John listens to you about everything; he'll definitely agree."
"You've gotten better at sweet-talking. Alright, go inside and keep an eye on them. Don't let them start fighting again."
After giving her instructions, Aurora got into her car. Jack stood at the door, watching until the car disappeared from sight before heading back inside.
The Lewis Villa.
When Aurora got home, she first checked on her sons.
Trey was hungry, and Jax needed a diaper change. Both kids were crying, and Summer and Loren were frantically trying to manage, refusing any help from the nanny, who was sent to the kitchen or to clean.
"Where's your daddy?"
Aurora had seen John's car in the parking lot, so he must have been home for a while.
Just as she spoke, John walked in.
Dressed like a young bachelor, looking particularly handsome, with his hands in his pockets, he seemed very relaxed.
"Honey, you're back."
Seeing Aurora, John smiled and moved to hug her.
"Stay right there." Aurora put her hand on John's chest, questioning him. "I asked you to come home and take care of the kids. How have you been doing that? Summer and Loren are running around like crazy, and Trey and Jax are crying from hunger. Didn't you hear them?"
John, feeling guilty,, "I had my headphones on and didn't hear anything."
Loren chimed in, "Mommy, don't blame Daddy. Summer and I are handling brothers. We're doing fine, just a bit busy and tiring, and we haven't had a chance to drink any water."
Was this really helping, or just making things worse?
Aurora glared at John. "How long have you been home? You didn't even lift a finger. Look at Summer and Loren; they're covered in spit-up, and you didn't even think to change their clothes."
John was about to speak when Summer interrupted, "Daddy's been busy all afternoon."
Aurora asked, "Busy with what?"
John stammered, "I..."
Summer cut in, "Several pretty ladies on the island heard we were back and called to check on Daddy, asking when he'd arrive and what he'd like to eat. Right, Daddy?"
John frantically signaled Summer to stop talking, whispering, "Can you please stop?"
Loren, hands on hips, "Daddy, if we're in the right, what are you afraid of?"
Aurora's anger flared. "Pretty ladies? Chatting all afternoon? No wonder you're dressed upeven at home."
Summer added, "Yeah, video calls. Daddy has to maintain his handsome image."
John started to sweat, desperately signaling his sons to stop talking. "Can you please stop?"
This wasn't helping at all; it was just making things worse.
Summer and Loren said in unison, "Daddy, don't be afraid. We're here for you."
John was speechless.
With these two around, he could already foresee tough days ahead.
He really wanted a daughter; daughters were more considerate.
Loren looked at Aurora. "Summer and I have been busy all afternoon and didn't want to disturb Daddy's chats with the pretty ladies. Mommy, you're too harsh and not considerate of Daddy."
Aurora snorted, picking up Loren's toy shovel. "Let's go to the room and have a good talk."
John explained, "Honey, it's not what you think!"
Summer, arms crossed, "Mommy, look at you, making a fuss. A plastic shovel can't hurt anyone. Who are you trying to scare?"
John waved his hands. "Honey, I..."
Before he could finish, Summer signaled Loren, who immediately brought over a cane.
John was stunned.
Aurora was also shocked.
Loren handed over the cane. "Mommy, here, use this if you dare."
John cowered. "You two little brats, are you teaming up to get me in trouble?"
Summer spoke, "Daddy, don't be afraid. Mommy wouldn't dare."
John, on the verge of tears, "She definitely would."
Summer and Loren took a few steps back. "Mommy, try hitting him once. See if you dare."
"Let's go to the room and talk about all the pretty girls on the island and what you talked about." Aurora grabbed John's shirt and started to drag him out.
Summer and Loren exchanged a sly glance.
In the bedroom.
John stood with his head down, while Aurora sat holding the cane. "Kneel on the washboard or the durian shell, pick one. We're at home, so it won't embarrass Mr. Lewis."
"Honey, calm down. It's all those two little brats' fault." John sat next to Aurora, trying to use his charm.
"Aurora, how about we have a daughter? These sons are too cunning; our old age will be worrisome."
"Don't change the subject. Tell me, how many women are on the island? What are their ages?"
John confessed, "There are 3,200 people on the island, 520 of whom are women. The youngest is three, and the oldest is forty."
"A three-year-old girl? You even have them on the island?"
"That child is an orphan. Three is the best age for learning." As John spoke, he subtly took the cane from Aurora's hand and hugged her, whispering, "Aurora, it's been a long time since we did something important."
"Be serious. I'm questioning you, John. You're being ridiculous..."
The best way to make a woman stop talking is to kiss her.
John had mastered this art.
The curtains and lights in the room were automatic. The curtains slowly closed, and the bright lights dimmed to a soft orange, creating a hazy and romantic atmosphere.
John, who hadn't made love to Aurora in a long time, indulged himself thoroughly.
They even skipped dinner.
Summer and Loren sat alone in the dining room, looking at the table full of delicious food.
Loren asked, "Summer, are we going to have a sister soon?"
"Based on the last two cases, the chances of a brother are higher than a sister," Summer replied, eating elegantly and gentlemanly.
Summer always paid great attention to table manners.
Loren, biting his spoon, "I don't want another brother; I want a sister."
In the bedroom.
The air was still filled with a romantic atmosphere.
Aurora, her cheeks flushed, glared at John. "Sit up. I have something to discuss with you."
John, feeling satisfied and in a good mood, "What can I do for you, my dear?"
