Chapter 367: Got the Child
The person on the rooftop was John.
When he arrived, he saw Calla and learned that Aurora had come in. To avoid alerting Sandra's people, he climbed up the rooftop from the other side.
Aurora was delighted. The two exchanged a glance in secret and, in perfect sync, did not take any action. What they needed to do now was wait.
Without Jax in their hands, they dared not act rashly, fearing they might provoke Sandra and endanger Jax.
There were guards on the terrace, so John couldn't come down, and Aurora couldn't go up.
Sandra tried to soothe Jax to sleep but failed, so she carried Jax out of the room.
Aurora and John quickly hid.
At that moment, the sound of a car came from outside.
It was Wade, returning.
Sandra stood on the terrace with Jax in her arms, surprised to see Wade coming back.
"Go check it out, what's going on," Sandra instructed her subordinate.
"Yes, Ms. Johnson."
The subordinate went downstairs to check. The abandoned factory was almost open on all sides, and a glance down could reveal the situation below.
Seeing Wade returning, Aurora became very nervous, exchanging a glance with John in secret.
She worried that Wade had discovered something.
John also knew the situation was urgent, but Jax, the little rascal, just wouldn't sleep, and Sandra wouldn't put him down. With the hostage in hand, how could they act?
Jax lay on Sandra's shoulder, his eyes darting around. Gradually, perhaps influenced by John's will, the little guy slowly closed his eyes and began to sleep.
Kids are like that; one moment they're excited, the next they're out like a light.
Seeing Jax finally asleep, Sandra walked towards the room to put him down.
Wade hurriedly came upstairs, "Notice anything out of the ordinary?"
Wade had driven halfway when he suddenly felt something was off. The place was remote, and there were no cars nearby. Who all the way out here just for a thrill?
When Wade reached the main road, he saw a car parked by the roadside. It was too far from where the supposed thrill-seekers were, which struck him as odd.
Moreover, with Sandra hiding in the abandoned factory, Wade felt uneasy and came back to check.
Sandra put down the child and said, "Nothing unusual, what's wrong?"
"Just now I noticed..."
Before Wade could finish, there was a fierce argument downstairs.
"What's going on?" Sandra frowned and asked her subordinate sternly.
Someone quickly came upstairs, "Ms. Johnson, a group of thugs started fighting. Looks like it's over a woman and want to settle it here."
Sandra was displeased: "It's so late, and this place is usually deserted. Why are they here now? Get rid of them."
Wade interjected, "No, if it gets out of hand and the cops get involved, we'll have a bigger problem."
The commotion downstairs grew louder, and it seemed like a real fight had broken out, with a woman's voice trying to mediate.
"You guys are making it so hard for me. You're both so handsome and love me so much. How am I supposed to choose?"
Her flirtatious voice was enough to give anyone goosebumps.
Sandra shivered, "If this keeps up, even if we don't drive them away, it will alert the police."
From the terrace, they could see the commotion below. More than twenty people had gathered downstairs, divided into two groups. In the middle stood a short-haired woman, quite attractive and with a hot figure, looking very conflicted.
"Why don't you guys fight? Whoever wins, I'll go with him. I like strong men."
The woman was both shy and bold, a mix that somehow suited her perfectly.
Aurora thought this style seemed somewhat familiar.
Sandra felt uncomfortable seeing the short-haired woman. Ever since her face was disfigured, she felt uneasy seeing women prettier than herself.
"Femme fatale."
Sandra muttered and said, "Let's go down and see who she ends up with."
"Don't you find it strange that these people suddenly appeared here?" Wade was still worried. "You're a wanted criminal."
"Who would know I'm a wanted criminal? You heard it just now; these thugs are fighting over that woman. This kind of thing happens often in the underworld. You haven't seen it before, so you're making a fuss over nothing. If these people were really a problem, the police would have come, not this group."
Saying this, Sandra was about to go downstairs to watch the commotion. Seeing Sandra going downstairs, Aurora thought she had a chance to take Jax, but at that moment, Sandra turned back and picked up the sleeping Jax, "Jax, I'll take you to watch the fun."
Sandra didn't trust leaving Jax alone on the couch. Although he couldn't roll over yet, what if something happened?
Aurora was frustrated, almost wanting to rush over and snatch him back. The waiting was excruciating.
John didn't expect Sandra to come back and take the child either. With Sandra taking everyone downstairs, John came down from the rooftop and met up with Aurora.
"What do we do now? Without Jax, we're stuck and can't do anything," Aurora was anxious.
John comforted her, "Don't worry, let's see if Lori can find an opportunity to take the child."
"Lori?" Aurora immediately realized, "That short-haired woman is Lori? No wonder she seemed familiar."
Lori was wearing a human skin mask as a disguise, and the people downstairs were also brought by John, all members of Nightfall, pretending to be thugs to create confusion.
They were waiting for the right moment to capture everyone in one fell swoop.
With Sandra and Wade both here, once they had Jax, John could give the order, and no one would escape.
Under Lori's "instigation," the two groups were about to fight. Seeing Sandra coming down, Lori exaggeratedly said, "Oh my God, a mummy?"
Sandra's face was wrapped tightly, indeed looking a bit like a mummy.
Hearing this, Sandra got angry, her eyes looking scary: "You're the mummy."
"If you're not a mummy, why is your face wrapped up? Can't show it?" Lori taunted as she approached Sandra. Seeing Jax asleep in Sandra's arms, she felt excited and eager to hold him.
Sandra was about to lose her temper when Lori changed the subject, turning to the two groups, "What are you standing around for? Fight! Whoever wins, I'll go with him tonight."
The two groups looked at each other. Were they really going to fight?
John hadn't instructed them to do this.
This wasn't part of the plan.
Without John's orders, they could only listen to Lori and really started fighting each other.
Seeing the fight, Lori tried to get close to Sandra, looking very troubled and pained, "Being beautiful is tough. Men always fight over me. By the way, which gang are you with? I'm familiar with this area. Why haven't I seen you before? Want to join us and follow me?"
Sandra was even more infuriated. She, the dignified Sandra of The Shadow of Darkness organization, being compared to these thugs?
"I..." Sandra just started to speak when Lori interrupted, "Why are you carrying a child in the middle of the night with so many people? In the wilderness, are you a runaway wife?"
"You..."
"This child is so cute," Lori didn't give Sandra a chance to speak. "Let me hold him."
"No," Sandra held the child tightly, only now realizing how close the short-haired woman had gotten to her.
"Why so stingy?"
Lori said this while secretly signaling the two groups. They reacted quickly, fighting their way towards Sandra.
A man deliberately bumped into Sandra.
"Watch out," Lori shouted, reaching out to pull Sandra. Moving swiftly, she took the opportunity to snatch the child.
