Chapter 386: The Storm Rises Again
Helen's funeral was as grand as Sandra's was shabby.
Alexander buried Sandra in the same cemetery, but in the most remote and secluded corner.
Samuel, puzzled, asked, "Why did you bury her in such a remote spot?"
Jennifer was also buried in this cemetery, in a much better location.
"Once a person dies, they are just ashes. It doesn't matter where they're buried," said Alexander, his temples graying, as he bought many flowers for Sandra. "I hope in your next life, you have parents who love you, and siblings who care for you."
Alexander felt guilty about his daughter Sandra.
He said sadly, "I didn't take care of Sandra and Jennifer, and no one outside knew they were my daughters. They were just orphans from the orphanage, with no parents. Their mother sent them to the orphanage while I was away, and I was too stubborn to go look for them."
At that time, Alexander didn't love his current wife and had flings with many women. Wendy left in anger, and his heart died with her. It didn't matter who was in his bed if it wasn't Wendy.
Alexander found the two sisters later, but by then, they both wanted a normal life and didn't want to return to The Shadow of Darkness organization.
So, to the outside world, Sandra and Jennifer remained orphans, while secretly working for The Shadow of Darkness.
Later, when Jennifer's health declined, Alexander forcibly brought them back.
Perhaps it was due to his age, but he began to value family more. After all, they were his daughters, and he wanted them close.
Jennifer was stubborn and, in her despair, took her own life.
Sandra was even more stubborn, choosing to perish together rather than let go of her obsession.
Alexander sighed heavily, "Samuel, do you think if these two sisters had stayed with me and I had aised them right, they wouldn't have ended up like this?"
Alexander's eyes grew moist, and as he spoke, tears streamed down his face. The pain of losing his daughters was a heavy blow to him.
Alexander was filled with regret.
This was the price he paid for the mistakes of his reckless youth.
Samuel consoled him, "You need to take care of yourself."
There wasn't much else to say; nothing could bring the dead back to life.
"You and Wendy should go back. I'll stay here a while longer."
"Alright."
Samuel walked over to Wendy, who was standing nearby.
"Let's go, let's give him some space."
"Okay."
Wendy glanced worriedly in Alexander's direction, then followed Samuel.
Once they were in the car, Samuel asked, "Wendy, are you planning to go back?"
Samuel had wanted to ask this question for a long time.
A woman's heart is tender. With Alexander losing two daughters in a row, it wasn't impossible for Wendy to soften and stay.
Wendy was silent for a moment, then spoke, "Samuel, I want to go back to The White Villa."
"What are you going back to The White Villa for?" Samuel was surprised. On the surface, Wendy was Dean's wife, but after so many years, that relationship was pretty much over.
"The kids are all there. How can I leave again?" Wendy explained. "Jessica entrusted Jack to me back then. I heard Jack's illness is showing signs of relapse, and Lori left without a word. Samuel, you don't have to stay with me anymore."
"Wherever you are, I am. I'm used to it," Samuel uttered with a smile. "If you want to go back to The White Villa, then we'll go back to The White Villa."
Wendy wanted to say something but held back. "Alright."
Samuel started the car and drove towards The White Villa.
Having known Wendy for so many years, how could he not understand her thoughts?
Alexander was the one Wendy was most worried about.
As the sky darkened, everyone had left the cemetery, leaving it desolate once again.
At this moment, a man wearing a hat and a black trench coat walked towards Sandra's tombstone, holding a bouquet of flowers.
The man placed the flowers down, took off his hat, and looked up, revealing his face. It was Oren.
Oren bowed three times to the tombstone, his attitude sincere. "Rest in peace."
Just then, a mocking voice came.
"The person is dead, and you're still pretending to be sincere here. Hypocrite."
