Chapter 296 A Critical Moment

Aurora rushed directly to the alley behind the kitchen.

On the ground, there was a pile of kitchen waste, which smelled particularly unpleasant and pungent.

A garbage truck was cleaning up the trash, preparing to haul it away.

Just as the truck's fork was about to clear the kitchen waste, Aurora hurriedly shouted, "Wait!"

The driver stopped and saw a beautiful woman in an evening gown rushing towards the trash can, starting to rummage through the garbage.

The driver didn't recognize Aurora but did know Jesse from the hotel. He asked in confusion, "Mr. Turner, what's going on?"

Jesse said, "Mr. Campbell, could you kindly step out and lend a hand in searching?"

The smell was overwhelming, dirty and foul, with flies buzzing everywhere. Jesse really couldn't bring himself to dig through the trash.Aurora, however, was like a madwoman, rummaging through the trash can without any regard for her image. Loren was missing; she had no mood to care about her image.

Driver Douglas Campbell got out of the truck and walked over to Jesse. "Jesse, what are we looking for?"

"Looking for..." Jesse stammered as he didn't know what Aurora was looking for. From start to finish, he had no idea what Aurora was doing, But he knew he must seize this opportunity to ingratiate himself with Aurora.

Jesse said, "Mrs. Lewis, what are you looking for? We'll help you find it."

Aurora, while rummaging through the trash, replied casually, "Looking for my son."

"Looking for..." Jesse repeated, suddenly realizing he might have misheard. She was actually looking for her son in the trash can?

Jesse asked again, "Mrs. Lewis, what did you just say? I didn't quite catch that."

Jesse wore a smile, exuding an air of unabashed sycophancy.

"Looking for my son." Aurora had rummaged through several trash cans but hadn't found anyone.

This time, Jesse heard clearly. He didn't question it, nor did he dare to. He repeated to Douglas, "Looking for my son. Oh, I misspoke, looking for Mrs. Lewis's son."

Douglas laughed. "This is all trash; how could there be anyone?"

Aurora, reeking of garbage, walked up to Douglas. "Is there any more trash?"

Perhaps it was a mother's intuition, Aurora just felt that Loren was nearby. The last time Loren was in trouble, she had the same feeling.

Douglas said, "We just hauled away a load."

Aurora asked, "Where did it go?"

Douglas said, "The dump."

Aurora immediately ran towards the exit, then turned back. "Where's the dump?"

Jesse stepped forward. "Mrs. Lewis, how about I drive you there?"

Aurora nodded. "Okay, you go get the car."

Soon, Aurora was on her way to the dump.

Aurora pulled out her phone and called John. "Loren is very likely at the dump. I'm on my way there now. I'll send you my location; come quickly."

"Okay, we're on our way back." John, sensing something was wrong, was already heading back.

At the dump, the stench was overwhelming.

A red sedan was conspicuously parked by the roadside.

Emily, pinching her nose, was using a stick to rummage through the dump.

As Emily had noticed Aurora going in and out earlier, she flet something was wrong and something big was about to happen. She followed Aurora out and then ran into Sandra. She didn't know exactly what was going on, but when she found that Sandra was acting suspiciously, she followed her.

Emily had seen Sandra throw a large bag into the trash heap. She didn't know what it was, but when she saw Aurora and John both leave, she felt even more that something was amiss.

Emily returned to the trash heap and happened to see the garbage truck hauling away a load of trash, so she drove and followed.

Emily poked around with the stick, looking for the bag Sandra had thrown. There must be some treasure hidden in it, so Aurora and John was extremely anxious.

Suddenly, Emily really found the big bag.

"I want to see what's inside." Emily muttered, very excited. What could be in such a big bag?

She poked it with the stick, and suddenly, the contents of the bag moved.

It was a large black plastic bag, completely obscuring the contents, making it impossible to tell what was inside.

Emily was startled and jumped back a step.

The contents of the plastic bag kept moving. Emily, gathering her courage, poked it again with the stick.

The contents of the plastic bag moved even more violently, rolling on the ground.

Emily screamed in fright.

At this moment, Aurora's car arrived. She quickly got out and was surprised to see Emily there.

 "What are you doing here?"

"What are you doing here?"

They spoke in unison.

The bag's contents were still moving. Emily, holding the stick, was about to hit it when Aurora rushed forward to stop her. "Stop."

Aurora pushed Emily aside, righted the large black garbage bag, and immediately untied the rope on top.

The bag opened, and inside was Loren.

Emily was shocked. "How could it be a person? I really didn't know. This has nothing to do with me." She had just followed out of curiosity.

Loren's hands and feet were tied, and his mouth was taped shut. Seeing Aurora, Loren burst into tears. After Aurora untied the ropes from his hands and feet and she removed the adhesive tape from his mouth, Loren complained, "Mommy, that bad woman bullied me again. She always picks on those of us who can't fight back. It's so unfair."

Aurora, who had been anxious and heartbroken, couldn't help but find Loren's words a bit amusing.

"It's okay; Mommy's here." Aurora still felt very guilty. No matter how smart Loren was, he was still a child. Without any fighting ability, he would definitely suffer if something happened.

Loren cried for a while and then stopped, his emotions quickly under control. He stood up, touching his head and chest. "Mommy, it hurts a bit."

These pains were from when Emily had poked him with the stick.

Aurora shot a sharp look at Emily, who was intimidated and quickly said, "I didn't know there was a person inside. I thought it was something else."

Aurora questioned, "What are you doing here? Are you with Sandra?"

"I just followed out of curiosity. Aurora, don't wrong me. Your son's misfortune has nothing to do with me. Don't take personal revenge." Emily was still very wary of Aurora. After all, Aurora's backer had become powerful again, someone who could crush her easily.

Having been to prison once, Emily had become more pragmatic. She would bully those weaker than herself but surrender to those stronger.

Aurora hadn't seen Sandra and Emily together on the surveillance footage, and Emily was in the lobby when Loren got into trouble. So Aurora believed that it had nothing to do with her.

Several cars were approaching; John had arrived.

"Daddy, Summer, Todd." Loren waved his chubby little hand.

"Loren." Summer was the first to rush to Loren. As they had gone through thick and thin together in the orphanage, they had a strong bond.

Summer wanted to hug Loren and comfort him, but as he got closer, he smelled a stench and pinched his nose. He said , "Loren, you stink."

"Not at all. Summer, give me a hug." Loren, playing a prank, moved closer for a hug.

Summer immediately ran, and Loren chased after him. The brothers started to play.

Todd, gloating, said, "Summer, just let Loren hug you for a bit. You are his brother, after all."

Summer said, "Todd, you hug him yourself."

Loren really turned and ran towards Todd, laughing. "Todd, give me a hug."

Todd hadn't expected to get himself into trouble.

Watching them play, John let out a long sigh of relief and smiled as it was just a false alarm.

At this moment, a large garbage truck came from the other side, its fork lifting all the trash on the ground into the shredder.

No matter what kind of trash it was, it was all processed this way.

Seeing this, Aurora and John's hearts tightened simultaneously.

If they had been a step later, Loren would have gone into the shredder.

What a clever way to kill. Hatred and fear surged in Aurora's heart. This time, she would not let Sandra get away absolutely.
