Chapter 376: The Net Has Been Cast

Night had fallen.

A cool breeze blew by, and it was still a bit chilly.

Aurora instinctively rubbed her arms. John noticed the small gesture and took off his coat to drape it over her shoulders. "You should go inside and rest. I'll sit here for a while."

"I want to stay with you." Aurora tightened her grip on John's hand. "Do you think Sandra will come tomorrow?"

Aurora was still anxious, unsure if Sandra would show up.

Sandra had almost been caught, Wade was arrested, Paul was silenced, and she had Paul and Helen's deaths on her conscience, not to mention the previous kidnapping of Loren and Jax.

Any one of these crimes was enough to get Sandra the death penalty.

John gazed into the distance with a faraway look in his eyes. "She will definitely come."

The White Villa.

Dean had already slept for a while and woke up in the middle of the night needing to use the bathroom. Afterward, he couldn't fall back asleep and went downstairs to find something to eat.

A gust of wind blew in from the doorway, making Dean shiver. He was surprised to find the door open.

He distinctly remembered closing it before going to bed.

Dean wrapped his clothes tighter around himself and went to close the door. Suddenly, a hand appeared on the door.

"Oh my God!" Dean jumped in fright.

"It's me."

Jack pushed the door open and walked in, wearing a dark trench coat that made him look like a mob boss.

The wind made his coat flap dramatically.

Dean's first look at Jack made him feel like the kid had grown up.

Jack was no longer the sickly boy lying in a hospital bed; he had matured, and there was a fierce glint in his eyes.

It was fleeting.

When Dean looked again, it was gone.

Dean thought he must have imagined it and didn't give it much thought.

"What are you doing outside in the middle of the night?" Dean scolded. "Dressed like that, were you out racing again?"

Jack's face changed slightly at this comment because Aurora used to say the same thing in the same tone.

"Yeah, took a couple of laps." Jack admitted, taking off his trench coat. "Aurora is having her wedding tomorrow. I went to win her a wedding gift."

"At least you have some decency. Aurora didn't spoil you for nothing." Dean spoke. "By the way, you're eating my food and living in my house. Didn't you prepare anything for me?"

"No." Jack glanced at Dean. "You're all alone now. If I didn't stay with you, no one would know if you died or got sick."

"You little brat, cursing me now." Dean was so angry. "You and your sister are both a handful. Can't you say something nice? I raised you two, if not perfectly, then with a lot of effort. You're both ungrateful."

"You indulged Emily and Nicole in what they did to Aurora. Aurora may have forgiven you, but I haven't forgotten." Jack snorted. "You should be glad I'm staying with you. Don't act innocent. You have no children. I might end up taking care of you in your old age."

Dean was stunned.

Whether it was the old Jack or the current Jack, Dean had never heard a kind word from him.

But now, although the words were harsh, they weren't as sharp as before, and he didn't shout or call him by his first name.

Jack started walking upstairs, and Dean asked, "Do you want a midnight snack? I'm hungry and was going to make something. I can bring some up for you."

"No need." Jack stood on the stairs, looking at Dean. "You shouldn't eat either. At your age, irregular eating habits could land you in the hospital."

Though the words were harsh, they showed a form of concern.

Dean wanted to respond but held back. In the end, he didn't eat either.

Dean thought Jack was right about one thing: he had no children. Jack might not be his son, but he still carried the White name. He might really have to rely on Jack for his old age.

The next day.

After dawn, Aurora had breakfast and started getting ready, then headed to the hotel where the wedding would take place.

This was a make-up wedding and a trap for Sandra, so they skipped the formalities and kept everything simple.

Lori and Ava accompanied Aurora to the hotel. Aurora had an earpiece hidden in her wedding dress to stay in contact with John.

The hotel was surrounded by plainclothes police and Nightfall agents, all in plain clothes. Some Nightfall agents even posed as guests.

If Sandra showed up, she wouldn't escape.

To avoid any accidents, Aurora didn't let Summer and Loren come. They stayed home to take care of their younger brothers.

Lloyd, as the elder of the family, had to attend.

When Lloyd arrived at the wedding venue, he noticed there weren't many guests, and most of them were unfamiliar to him.

John was nowhere to be seen. Lloyd found Todd. "Todd, where's John? How can the wedding be so shabby? If Helen were still alive, she'd be furious to see such a modest wedding. Even though Helen is gone, we shouldn't let Aurora be wronged."

"Grandpa Lewis, a wedding is just a formality. It doesn't matter how many people come." Todd made up an excuse. "Given the short notice, this is the best we could do. Besides, this is what Aurora wanted—a simple ceremony with close friends and family. Everyone here is a friend of Aurora's friends."

These were all new Nightfall recruits, so Lloyd hadn't met them before.

"No wonder. I was wondering why everyone looked so unfamiliar." Lloyd didn't suspect anything. "It's just a shame for Aurora."

"Grandpa Lewis, please have a seat. The ceremony is about to start." Todd said, calling Sam over. "Sam, you're in charge of looking after him."

Lloyd's safety also needed to be ensured.

After settling Lloyd, Todd went to find John.

John was at the hotel entrance with Allan. John was dressed in his groom's suit, looking handsome and dashing. He was truly the star of the show.

John intentionally stayed at the entrance to draw Sandra out. Allan, attending as a friend, was in casual clothes.

Allan was smoking. "We've got a strict order to solve the case within three days. Whether we can report success to our superiors depends on today."

"Alright, there's still an hour before the wedding starts. No rush." John also lit a cigarette. From a distance, they looked like old friends chatting.

Todd was about to walk over when a black SUV drove up, with Jack behind the wheel.

He had come with Dean.

Jack stopped the car next to John and lowered the window. "John, you look great today. Congratulations, wishing you and Aurora a lifetime of happiness."

John nodded. "Thanks. Aurora is inside. You and Dad go on in. I'll be here to greet the guests."

The word "Dad" made Dean beam with joy. "John, today is your and Aurora's big day. You gotta have a few drinks with me later."

"Absolutely."

"Alright, John, we'll head in first." Jack drove the car into the underground parking lot.

There were guards at the parking lot entrance, but recognizing John's brother-in-law and father-in-law, they let them through without inspection.

Todd walked up to John. "John."

John asked, "How's Aurora?"

"Lori and Ava are with her. Everything's fine."

"Good. Take some people and check all the entrances again. Be thorough."
