Chapter 106 This Position is Overly Intimate
Until Gabriel had taken long strides to stand in front of her, Jessica suddenly came to her senses and subconsciously stepped back.
But there was the curb by her feet, and if she stepped back further, she would fall. She couldn't help but shift her gaze to the side, not sure if she was avoiding Gabriel's eyes or the familiar clean and cold fragrance that he exuded as he approached.
Gabriel lowered his eyes to look at Jessica, who was avoiding eye contact and looking down at the ground. "Is there any money on the ground?"
This man was already tall, and at this moment, standing so close, even though they were outdoors, the air seemed to thin inexplicably.
Should Jessica lower her head or should she look up at this nearly six-foot-tall man?
Her eyelids twitched, and she still didn't look at him, keeping her head down. "There's no money in the sky either. It's the same wherever I look."
As she spoke, she glanced in different directions, finally resting her gaze on the car parked nearby.
Speaking of which, the Bentley was a luxurious and understated choice, with sleek lines, a low-key black body, and a practical yet very regal demeanor.
Her thoughts were scattered. At times, she admired the car's aesthetics, at others, she appreciated the evening weather, and occasionally, she found the air particularly pleasant.
Her mind wandered aimlessly for a while, and Gabriel didn't say much, just watching her as she looked around, his lips subtly curved.
Not long ago, she could have argued with him in front of him for a thousand sentences.
But now her tongue seemed to be tied in knots.
After standing face to face for a while, Jessica felt a bit uncomfortable. Suddenly, she took a big step back, retreating to the side of his car, and awkwardly asked, "Are you just passing by?"
Gabriel replied calmly, "No."
Jessica didn't know how to continue the conversation.
Well, she was back to her conversation drought state, not knowing how to proceed.
Should she ask about his health after returning home? But she thought that he had recovered well even in a place like hers, and since he had left with no serious injuries, returning to such a pampered environment would surely speed up his recovery. There was no need to ask such trivial questions.
Or should she ask why a CEO of a large corporation would come to the remote and desolate suburb like her home?
His company had been cooperating with the city planning in the new district for the past two years. Although this area was not Xyleria, it was still quite remote and definitely not within his company's scope of construction. This place couldn't possibly have any business related to his company. Under normal circumstances, he shouldn't be here at all, let alone have time to drive around here.
So it was an abnormal situation.
"If you want to see Danielle, it might not be convenient today. Just now, her preschool teacher called me and said Danielle had already gone to bed."
As Jessica spoke, she suddenly seemed to realize something. "If you want to take away the things you used in my house, you can have your assistant come and get them whenever you want. I've put them in a box and haven't had time to take them out and throw them away."
After saying that, Jessica quickly moved away from his car, looking towards the residential area. "It's getting late. I've been filming all day and I'm quite tired. I'll go up first. You can do as you please."
As she finished speaking, she turned to walk quickly inside.
But as soon as she took a step, her wrist was suddenly held tightly. The warmth from Gabriel's palm seeped through her skin, causing Jessica to shudder involuntarily, her heart skipping a beat, her breath catching, and before she could react, she tried to pull away.
After struggling a couple of times without success, Jessica had to turn to him, immediately trying to clarify the situation. "For the past month, I've treated it as if I've helped Danielle save an injured rabbit. I don't want my life to be affected in any way! But just by standing here, you have the ability to influence people enough. Do you know how scary it is for you to suddenly appear at my doorstep late at night?"
Gabriel stood tall behind her, holding her wrist firmly in his palm. As Jessica spoke, she tried to pull away with force, but suddenly her foot slipped on the curb by the road. She stumbled and, following the force and inertia, she fell directly into Gabriel's warm and clear embrace.
Her entire face hit his chest through the shirt!
Jessica quickly tried to push him away. "You..."
Before she could finish the word, Jessica suddenly, with a sharp sense, turned her eyes to the small commercial van parked on the opposite side of the road, not knowing when it had stopped there.
She caught sight of a long-focus lens poking out from the slightly open window, sending a chill down her spine.
She tried to pull her hand away, whispering softly, "Don't turn around. Someone is taking pictures of me!"
Gabriel narrowed his eyes slightly.
Today, Jessica seemed like a hedgehog when she saw him. Now, she was suddenly turning her face away from the direction of the road, and her struggling movements became increasingly frantic.
Seeing that he still had no intention of letting go, Jessica became anxious. "It's one thing for a small star like me to be photographed, but you can't be. Hurry up and leave, or we'll end up in a scandal together."
Before she could finish her sentence, the hand that was about to push him was suddenly held by him as well!
Jessica stared in shock, as he pressed her against the car door, too stunned to comprehendwhat was happening.
He lowered his head to look at her, his gaze fixed on her face, which was still full of surprise. He said calmly, "If you don't want to be photographed, don't move."
Jessica was almost completely pressed against the car door by Gabriel. She thought she was of average height, but in comparison to Gabriel, she suddenly felt petite. Moreover, she was conveniently covered by his long black coat, hiding most of her figure.
In a panic, she raised her eyes to meet his, and Gabriel's dark eyes stared deeply into hers, his hand still holding her wrist with warmth and strength.
"Even if you want to shield me, can you not press so closely? I cann’t breath."Jessica's ears turned red in embarrassment.
The position they were in felt overly intimate. Not only were their bodies almost tightly pressed together, but she was almost entirely enveloped by his body and his coat. Gabriel's cool and persistent breath, with his unique warmth, filled the air she could breathe.
Gabriel remained silent, releasing her wrist and placing his hand behind her waist.
The atmosphere suddenly seemed to change, becoming inexplicably intimate and ambiguous.
She tensed up immediately, lifting her eyes in confusion, only to find that Gabriel had kept his head lowered, protecting her in his arms. His dark eyes seemed bottomless.
In that instant, Jessica's heart fluttered inexplicably. She quickly raised her hand and pushed his chest, saying, "They're probably afraid of being discovered and won't stay there for long. They should be leaving now! Just let go of me. I'll cover my face with my bag and sneak into the community myself. They won't catch anything."
"Don't move." Gabriel's hand around her waist held her firmly. Before Jessica could react, he suddenly lowered his head.
