Chapter 331 Don't Do What You Shouldn't Do
Jessica swung open the car door. "I'm outta here. Take care."
She didn't even bother with a proper goodbye, just stepped out and left.
She had zero plans to see him again.
Donald had been groveling, every word dripping with desperation, like a lonely old man begging for sympathy from his granddaughter.
Sure, Eugene was a lousy father and a total jerk.
But if Donald claimed Eugene had no conscience, how many shady things had Donald done to stay on top in Country W? He probably lost count.
What Donald offered was a golden cage.
If she stepped in, it would all be hers in a few years, but she'd be trapped, losing her freedom in a gilded prison, never to escape.
Donald would shape her into the heiress he wanted. If she didn't measure up, he'd take it all back and start over. As long as Donald was alive, she'd be stuck, living as a puppet, not Jessica, but a reluctant Jenner heir.
He dangled a future too tempting to resist, but once she bit, even her daughter Danielle would be isolated.
She'd be drained of everything, sacrificing herself for Donald's dream of keeping the Jenner legacy alive, living as his puppet.
Staying in Country W was like a devil in disguise, offering a diamond-studded cage, inviting her in, promising all the diamonds if she just stepped inside.
Zoey saw Jessica return and quickly asked, "Jessica, who was that in the car? It looked so fancy. Do you know people in Country W?"
"A relative, not close," Jessica replied vaguely, sitting back in the car and checking her phone.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number, but the caller ID showed it was local from Country W.
She answered, and Donald's cold, old voice came through, "Jessica, you've got two options: stay in Country W as the Jenner family's granddaughter, or leave and be cut off from the Jenner family. I'll pretend you never existed."
As expected, his tone flipped instantly.
No more lonely old man act.
Either step into the cage or disappear, he didn't care.
Jessica held the phone with one hand, lightly tapping the armrest with the other. She said calmly, "Since I can remember, I knew I wasn't meant to be a Jenner. When I cut ties with Eugene five years ago, the Jenner family in Country W ceased to exist for me. So, whether I'm accepted or exiled now, what does it matter? I'm still living my life."
Donald replied in a deep voice, "I advise you to think it over."
"No need."
Donald’s voice was so icy that Jessica didn’t even bother with politeness and hung up.
Seeing Jessica’s serious expression, Zoey asked, “Jessica, what’s up?”
Zoey knew Jessica had some ties to the Jenner family in Xyleria, but Jessica never talked about it. Mackenzie had warned her not to pry, so Zoey didn’t know much about Jessica’s background. All she knew was that Jessica and Mackenzie would be her bosses soon.
But Jessica’s phone call had piqued Zoey’s curiosity.
“Nothing much, just turned down a contract worth billions, maybe even tens of billions.”
Jessica looked at her. “Do you believe in good things happening for no reason?”
Zoey shook her head. “Nope.”
Jessica chuckled. “Exactly. Some dreams aren’t worth chasing, just live in the moment.”
Zoey thought, ‘Didn’t get it.’
‘But it sounded deep.’
‘Whatever, the boss is always right.’
In a hotel room in Xyleria, the air reeked of alcohol.
A shredded DNA test lay in the trash.
Trinity had locked herself in, drinking for two days, then sat by the window in a daze for another day, consumed by hatred for one person.
Jessica who had wrecked her family, her career.
And now, it turned out Jessica was the real Jenner, while she wasn’t even related.
The massive lie Linda had hidden for over twenty years almost crushed her, but it also fueled her rage.
After downing another half-can of alcohol, Trinity picked up her cracked phone and dialed Keegan’s number.
“Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable.”
“Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable.”
Over and over.
Proving Keegan had blocked her.
An entertainment news app had just pushed a story saying Keegan was spotted with a secretary from his company, sparking rumors of a new romance.
Trinity wiped her eyes, almost out of tears, took another swig, changed clothes, tried to sober up, and called Keegan again.
Still unavailable.
Jessica had already destroyed her.
She had nothing left.
At least Keegan was still there. No matter who he was with, he wasn’t married yet, and she could still fight for him.
Five years together, five years of intimacy.
If she had nothing left, Keegan, being so soft-hearted, wouldn’t ignore her. He’d help her.
Trinity, carrying her bag, staggered into the elevator. When she reached the lobby, the staff saw she could barely walk and tried to help. “You’ve been drinking. You can’t go out like this. We’ll call room service to take you back.”
“Get lost!” Trinity shoved the person away and stumbled outside, hailing a cab and getting in.
