Chapter 389 Don't Be Too Surprised
Not just one person was secretly picturing. When Jessica came out without a mask, it was obvious that some passersby or fans in the crowd had recognized her.
Firstly, she was afraid of being photographed, and secondly, Gabriel was injured, so she couldn't push him away. Gabriel's voice was almost right next to her ear, and with just a short sentence, his chest vibrated against her earbone, his voice low and deep.
Flashes were going off intermittently over there, and Gabriel almost hid her in his arms, leading her into the dark theater.
Jessica's mind went blank. She only knew she couldn't move randomly. But once she entered the darkness and the theater's booming sound effects hit her ears, she suddenly realized what was happening.
Gabriel also glanced at the door. It was too dark inside. Those people who had rushed in couldn't immediately identify everyone in the theater. Noticing that Jessica was still stiffly leaning against him, instinctively keeping her head down to avoid being recognized, Gabriel raised his clear and indifferent eyebrows.
"Risking being photographed, sneaking out at midnight to watch a movie with a co-star?"
Jessica immediately snapped back to reality, stepping back a step from his embrace to maintain a certain distance from Gabriel's noble and stern aura. Taking advantage of the fans outside who couldn't identify her in the dark, she quickly slipped into a corner, avoiding the aisle near the door.
Kevin had already suggested multiple times to take her out for dinner or a movie.
For the past two years, she had found various excuses to refuse.
Avoid if possible.
If unavoidable, just directly refuse.
But Kevin had helped her before and kept her secrets, she owed him a favor. She had been indifferent to his gestures for so long.
As Jessica's first film was premiering and Kevin booked a show, how could she be so hardhearted to refuse his invitation. What was more, they worked in the same set.
As a colleague, she definitely should keep a good relationship with Kevin.
"This is my business." She didn't explain, glancing towards the door and noticing fewer people coming in now. It seemed like the ones who had rushed in earlier looking for her, but now it was just people going to the restroom.
The biggest question was—why Gabriel was also here?
A seriously injured person who didn't rest at home late at night, but came to a faraway cinema?
How did he get here?
His back injury prevented him from raising his arm to drive, so it's impossible he drove himself here.
Jessica's gaze returned to Gabriel. In the darkness, their eyes met, and she suddenly remembered him seeing her phone's WhatsApp when she left Blue Bay Apartments.
She was surprised. 'What did he mean? Catching me in the act?'
She and Kevin were innocent. If there had been any romantic interest, it would have happened two years ago. 'Do I really need him to catch me?'
Besides, what right did he have to be here?
Seeing Jessica's dramatic expression, Gabriel didn't say anything. He raised his hand to lower her hat brim a bit more. "Going back?"
"Of course, I need to go back. I haven't finished watching the movie."
"I mean going home."
"Go home? The movie has just started, not even halfway through. Besides, I didn't come alone. I can't just leave someone here. Go back yourself if you want. Get back the same way you got here. It has nothing to do with me." Jessica turned to leave but suddenly stopped and looked back at him. "Did you come by yourself?"
Gabriel's expression was indifferent. "Wayne is your fan. He suddenly wanted to watch a movie at midnight. I was bored, so I came with him."
"Wayne is my fan?"
Without any expressions,Gabriel spoke stably and walked inside, not intending to continue the conversation.
Jessica, both annoyed and amused, followed him back to her seat, surprised to find Gabriel's seat right behind hers. What's more, Wayne was there too.
Wayne was seriously watching the movie with a bucket of popcorn, clearly engrossed in the plot.
Seeing Gabriel calmly sitting behind her, Jessica's eyelid twitched. She turned and waved at Wayne. "Hi!"
Wayne's gaze fell on Jessica's face surpringly. He instinctively raised his hand and dumbly replied, "Hi."
Jessica looked at Wayne's shocked and confused expression, raised an eyebrow, sat down without looking back.
Kevin hadn't noticed earlier, only hearing Jessica greet someone behind her. He was about to turn around when Jessica sat down. He looked at her. "You were gone for so long? Did you run into someone you know?"
"Yeah, someone I know." Jessica seriously tucked her hair behind her ear, intending to continue watching the movie, not wanting to talk too much and disturb others.
Kevin was curious about who it was but seeing Jessica's indifferent attitude, he didn't bother to turn around.
After the movie ended, Kevin and Jessica didn't rush to leave, staying to watch the credits.
Most people had left the theater, and the lights were on. Jessica suddenly asked Kevin, "Do you have a pen for autographs?"
Kevin smiled at her. "Who are you signing for? Funny enough, I rarely carry one, but I had it on me after signing autographs for fans on set this afternoon."
He took out a gold pen from his pocket and handed it to her.
Jessica took the pen, rummaged through her bag, found a photo of herself, signed it, and handed the pen back to Kevin. She stood up and smiled at Wayne who was still seated with Mr. Harriman. "Wayne, thank you for the bumper you gave me last time. Here's a thank-you gift."
Wayne, holding the popcorn bucket, looked at her innocently and confused. "Huh?"
Jessica quietly added some background music for herself, reached out, and handed him the signed photo. "Don't be too surprised. Keep it well. My signed photos are valuable now!"
Kevin turned to look at the two behind them, and upon seeing Gabriel, he was just as shocked as Wayne had been.
"Mr. Harriman?" Kevin blurted out, stunned.
Gabriel ignored him, turned to the bewildered Wayne, and calmly said, "Your goddess personally gave you a signed photo. Don't get too excited. Control your emotions."
