Chapter 160 Gabriel Glanced at Him Indifferently
The paparazzi followed happily, holding a camera aimed at the main entrance of the daycare.
Brandon just said that if he could snap a picture of Jessica near the daycare today, or any kid unusually close to her there, he'd earn a seventy-dollar raise.
In any case, Brandon didn't know what he had found out from the previous daycare he had been squatting at. It seemed like he was very confident about something, believing that as long as he continued to follow Jessica, he could continue to uncover bigger news. By then, he could make a big profit from Trinity and Keegan.
Jessica saw that the paparazzi was still smoking in the distance, not looking in their direction. She walked briskly to the back of the van and coldly took out the black plastic bag she had just casually picked up at the supermarket from her bag.
The paparazzi suddenly heard footsteps behind him. Subconsciously, he was about to turn around, but before he could, everything went black in front of him as two black plastic bags were pulled over his head.
The baton followed, hitting him hard on the shoulder. Just as he was about to scream in pain, he was swiftly kicked forward, causing him to groan in pain as he fell to the ground, the camera in his hand falling to the ground.
Jessica's skin was extremely pale, but her eyes were as dark as ink at the moment, a stark contrast that highlighted her usual silent endurance and her current fierceness.
Following her, spying on her, now directly following and spying on Danielle.
Even the cold weather couldn't extinguish the hidden anger in her heart.
For the past five years, living away from the past, she almost forgot the person who had smashed a bottle on her father's head five years ago, the one who had resolutely cut ties with the Jenner family.
She was never a lamb to be slaughtered.
In these years, only she knew what she persisted in.
Beneath the calm facade lay mutual respect—either you respect me, and I respect you, or an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
She had things to do, endurance beneath her silence and her restrained sharpness.
So, five years later, if Jessica's bottom line had not been touched, she could ignore all the criticisms around her. But if anyone dared to lay a hand on Danielle, that would be a different story.
Cynthia and Caroline promptly took Danielle away. When Danielle came out, she didn't recognize Aunt Cynthia. She looked at her with a dumbfounded expression, and Caroline quickly led Danielle away from the crowd in another direction.
Seeing Danielle being taken away, Cynthia glanced towards the van and quickly walked over, taking the baton from Jessica's hand, giving her a look, and then kicking the paparazzi, who was already in pain, on the leg before briskly walking away. Before leaving, Jessica casually picked up the broken camera from the ground and removed the memory card.
In just a few minutes, Brandon returned to see his companion’s face swollen as if he had gained ten pounds, sitting by the car with a pitiful expression, not daring to move.
"Brandon." The paparazzi raised his eyes, looking pitifully at Brandon, who was approaching. Then, he glanced at the person behind him with his eyes.
"Who are you?" Brandon walked over with a wary expression, staring at the tall, slender woman with short hair, and noticed that she was playing with something in her hand.
Brandon wondered, 'What was that? A baton?'
Cynthia glanced indifferently at Brandon and casually raised an identification card.
Brandon's face changed.
Brandon thought, 'Damn? Is she really a cop? Such a beautiful policewoman?'
"You..."
"The police station received a report from the park's security office, saying that two people were acting suspiciously with a camera nearby." Cynthia put away the identification card and said coldly, "Is it you two?"
"Officer, this might be a misunderstanding, but what's wrong with my brother's face? You can't just hurt someone without knowing the truth," Brandon said warily.
Cynthia remained expressionless. "When I arrived, he was already on the ground, and his face looked like this when I saw it."
"How is that possible?! What's the baton in your hand for?" Brandon inquired.
Cynthia replied, "Do I need to explain to you?"
The paparazzi cried out in grievance, "Although I didn't see who hit me when the plastic bag was opened, I only saw her!"
Cynthia coldly glanced over, and he quickly shut his mouth, not daring to say another word.
Cynthia said calmly, "I am not the target of your surveillance, and as a public servant, I cannot physically harm anyone without reason. Perhaps in your line of work, you have offended too many people and could be beaten up anytime, anywhere, and you just happened to run into me."
"But Officer, we really weren't filming anything wrong," Brandon continued.
"Enough talk. The evidence is here." Cynthia pointed to the camera on the ground. "Come with me to the station for questioning."
In the evening, Cynthia came to the house for dinner as agreed. Danielle, who had often seen photos of Aunt Cynthia, even though they had been apart for two years, and she was very young two years ago, with a vague memory, finally recognized Aunt Cynthia, and the little girl bounced around the room with the gift Aunt Cynthia brought.
After dinner, Caroline took Danielle to brush her teeth.
Jessica said, "After I checked the data card when I came back, they didn't capture any substantial content, but most of the scenes were near the daycare as before. These people have a keen sense for certain sensitive events, and they probably guessed something out of thin air, which is why they are trying so hard to investigate from this angle at the daycare. Did you find out anything else?"
"In the accounts under the names of these two individuals, two different people have sent money—one from Trinity's private account and one from a VIP account that the police do not have permission to view, but it is related to the Four Seas Entertainment."
As Cynthia spoke, she turned to Jessica. "Based on their testimonies, it seems that Trinity is trying to investigate you in every possible way while the other person is paying them not to follow you too closely. Can you guess who that person is?"
Jessica pondered for a moment but remained silent.
But Cynthia, knowing her well, knew that Jessica had likely already figured out the whole situation in an instant.
"They also captured some evidence about your boyfriend outside the circle, a man who drives a cheap car, saying that you had breakfast together in the car. The photos have already been given to the two people who paid for them."
Jessica thought, 'Boyfriend outside the circle? Cheap car? Who could it be?'
'Is it Landon?'
Landon worked late that night, just brought a stack of files into the CEO's office, and suddenly sneezed.
Gabriel raised his dark eyes from behind his desk, giving him an indifferent glance. "Got a cold?"
Landon mumbled, "No."
