Chapter 71 Lifting the Leg
"It's nothing, just twisted my neck a bit, just a minor injury," Jessica waved her hand as if it didn't matter. "As you know, we have to do some intense stunts for filming, so it's inevitable to have some minor injuries. I happen to have a few days off now, so I don't need to go to the set. It's only reasonable to take sick leave."
As she spoke, her eyes darted towards the bedroom, mainly because her back was aching, and she longed to rest in Danielle's room for a while.
However, she couldn't remove the cervical support device during the day, which left her in a dilemma. She couldn't lie down, sitting was exhausting, not to mention standing, as the weight of the contraption around her neck made it unbearable.
How was she going to endure wearing this thing for a whole week?
Not to mention cooking, even eating would probably be inconvenient. She couldn't ask Danielle to eat takeout every day, and Caroline was still busy with things at home, so she couldn't come back to help her at the moment.
As Jessica was pondering this in her mind, the figure of Gabriel in front of her was already approaching. She instinctively leaned back a little and looked up at him, asking, "What are you doing?"
Gabriel's gaze moved away from the obvious bruises on her body, his eyes seemed to roll like snow in the winter, cold and distant. He didn't say anything, but his hand was already on the cervical vertebrae support device on her neck. After checking it, he casually turned it slightly to the right.
"Ouch, that hurts. Are you trying to murder me?"
Jessica's body shivered in pain, and she was about to raise her eyes to interrogate him, but suddenly felt that the thing that had been stuck on her neck bone had just been moved, although it hurt, it wasn't as uncomfortable as before.
Gabriel ignored her and turned to the drawer in her living room, familiarly searching for the box of bruise ointment that the old doctor downstairs left last time.
So, was it that she accidentally misaligned her cervical brace just now?
No wonder it hurt more than when she was in the hospital.
Sitting still on the couch, Jessica's gaze followed his figure. A man almost two meters tall, even when he didn't speak, he emitted a chilly and stern aura that could make millions or even billions within a minute.
Why didn't she thoroughly investigate his blood-stained clothes? Why didn't she consider deeper aspects?
But if it was just a coincidence, if she guessed wrong, Jessica was entangled in her thoughts. Suddenly, Gabriel’s voice rang out above her head, "Lift your leg."
She raised her eyes abruptly and saw him already approaching with the ointment. Subconsciously, she glanced at her own leg, still unable to understand.
Seeing that she didn't seem to injure her neck but rather had a look as if she injured her brain, Gabriel didn't waste any more words and directly bent down to lift one of her legs, placing her foot on the coffee table opposite the sofa, and opened the box of ointment.
Watching the man's slender and distinct joints, which were coated with ointment and directly applied to the bruises on her calf, Jessica immediately felt a strange burning sensation that made her want to retract her leg.
But her foot didn't retract.
The man lightly pressed her leg, "Stay still."
Jessica sat stiffly, first looking at her own leg, then looking at Gabriel who was bending down to apply ointment to her leg. In her mind, the two incomplete newspapers she saw in the morning once again appeared.
Harriman Group.
It's the exact same figure.
Cliff.
Disappearance.
Suddenly, she felt the burning heat of the ointment on her ankle, and she quickly reached out, "I can do it myself, just give me the ointment and I can apply it myself."
Gabriel didn't raise his head. He firmly held her ankle, his tone cold and stern, "Don't move."
Jessica really couldn't move now. Her neck was so painful that she could only sit rigidly, and she heard Gabriel ‘s cold voice say, "The other leg." In that instant, although her rationality reminded her that she shouldn't do this, she didn't know where this cold, oppressive feeling in the air came from, and she could only cooperate silently, slowly lifting the other leg.
After applying the ointment to her legs, Gabriel looked at her arms.
Jessica quickly hid her arm behind her back, "The injury on my arm isn't that serious, you see, it's just a scrape and the skin is a little red."
The man placed the ointment on the coffee table next to her and looked down at her with lowered eyes.
Jessica looked down at her legs, pondered for a moment, and then moved to get up. "Can you help me? I want to rest in my room, but I don't know how to lie down comfortably."
"What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor said that if it's really uncomfortable to sleep at night, I can take it off, but I can't take it off for more than ten hours."
That was considerate. Jessica usually didn't sleep for that long anyway.
But she felt that because of this, he probably wouldn't agree to let her return to her room to lie down.
She quickly added, "But this thing is too heavy, and my waist and shoulders can't bear it for that long. The doctor said I can use two pillows to prop my head and back, and I can also lie down like this normally."
Gabriel walked over upon hearing this and helped her up. Jessica took two steps forward, then reached out to both sides, trying to find balance and move forward on her own.
As she was about to enter the children's room, the cellphone left on the coffee table suddenly rang coincidentally.
Jessica quickly turned around at the door, afraid of missing an important call, after all, Harrison and the others were still in the hospital and she didn't know what was happening.
"Help me put the cellphone on speaker." Jessica said as she awkwardly moved her feet like a disabled person.
Gabriel glanced at the caller ID on the cellphone on the coffee table and casually put it on speaker mode.
It was Mackenzie's voice, "Jessica, have you arrived home? Don't think I don't know that you're still holding on to that stubbornness and sense of shame even with such injuries. Afraid that it would be troublesome for me to support you up the stairs, but you're not still lingering in the hallway alone, are you?"
Upon hearing it was Mackenzie, Jessica instinctively tried to turn off the speaker, but her actions were too slow and Mackenzie's voice spoke again. "The police have already made a record and sent a patrol officer to investigate the situation. The car that fell into the river has been salvaged, and it's completely scrapped, but luckily, no one was seriously injured. The driver and Harrison said that there was suddenly a car that seemed to have brake failure and crashed toward them on the bridge. The driver originally wanted to avoid it, but the speed was too fast, and when he tried to veer right, it was too instant, and the other car still crashed into you. Both cars hit the guardrail and fell into the river. The driver of that car is still unconscious in the emergency room and we can’t contact his family either. I don't think this accident is so simple. I will personally go and check the surveillance footage of the bridge to see what the problem is with that driver!"
