Chapter 328 Are You Trying to Murder Me?
Jessica had no idea how she ended up back in the car.
Maybe she’d been outside too long; her hands and feet were freezing.
Trinity's words kept replaying in her mind.
Trinity approaching Gabriel with empty words didn't faze Jessica as he already knew everything about her.
But what was the real deal between Trinity and Kimberly beyond their Instagram DMs?
If Trinity knew about Danielle, Kimberly would find out soon too.
Imogen wouldn’t be back in Y Country for a few more days. Kimberly had been with the Harriman family for a while now, and even if she and Michael were distant, they must’ve gotten closer.
Moreover, Michael held a fondness for her, and Jessica held him in high regard. However, she wasn't prepared to confide in Michael about Danielle.
Gabriel accepted Danielle, but would Michael?
This question had haunted Jessica for a long time, but Gabriel had bulldozed through that barrier.
Gabriel might’ve broken through everything, but no matter how open-minded Grandpa Harriman was, how could Michael get past the wall about the child?
Jessica glanced at her phone, her fingers tapping the screen. Danielle’s voice came through an audio message, sweetly calling, “Mommy, Mommy.”
Since becoming a celebrity, hiding Danielle had been her instinct to protect her. She couldn’t let Danielle be exposed to the cameras, couldn’t let her carefree life be disrupted.
But with the Harriman family, she’d always instinctively protected Danielle, and with Gabriel’s calculated moves, she and Danielle were slowly drawn into his world. Jessica found comfort in Gabriel’s reassurances.
Trinity's recent loud and unabashed outburst shattered a firm, resolute idea in Jessica's mind: If Danielle were exposed, the real obstacle wouldn’t be Gabriel, or the fans, or even Danielle, but the Harriman family..
She suddenly called Caroline from the car. “Caroline, has Danielle had dinner?”
“Yeah, she finished a while ago. I’m about to give her a bath now,” Caroline laughed. “Danielle’s so considerate. She knows my leg’s been bad lately, so she’s been holding my hand and walking slowly with me after school. In this cold weather, she turned a five-minute walk into over ten minutes. When I asked if she was cold, she said she wasn’t, as long as Caroline’s leg didn’t hurt. She’s such a good kid. I hope my future grandkids are as thoughtful as Danielle.”
Jessica smiled, chatted a bit more, then hung up, leaning back in the driver’s seat with her eyes closed, her mind racing.
Suddenly, she heard a car door open. She opened her eyes and turned her head, only to see Gabriel, who had clearly already gone into the company, suddenly open the passenger door and sit in her not-so-spacious car. Gabriel, tall and slender, seemed a bit cramped in her car, which was more suited for women, but he didn’t seem uncomfortable at all.
Once inside, Gabriel locked the car doors and pulled out the key, plunging them into darkness.
Even in the dim light, Gabriel's features were still clear.
Jessica looked at him, confused. "What are you doing?"
"The Jenner family is under investigation. Trinity's still free, but she's got no resources left. She came to me out of desperation, trying to find some comfort in her life filled with hatred for you," Gabriel said, his gaze in the dark car like the midnight sea, enveloping her. "There are many things she can't foresee, but you and I both know that Danielle's safety won't be an issue. Don't worry."
"Caroline didn't mean to. Her leg's been a bit unsteady lately, and it's my fault too. Even if I cover my face well, I can still be recognized on the street. I shouldn't have gone to the supermarket with Caroline that day," Jessica said, not wanting to implicate Caroline.
In the dark car, Gabriel took her cold hand in his, his long, slender fingers gently rubbing the back of her hand.
"What do you want to eat?" he asked.
Jessica turned her head abruptly to look at him. "I don't think I can eat anything right now."
Gabriel continued to rub her smooth, fair hand. Jessica had been filming night scenes for several days in a row, and they hadn't had dinner together for days, let alone moved to the thirty-second floor.
"Alright, I'll eat first."
Gabriel said something she didn't quite catch.
Jessica stared blankly for a few seconds before suddenly pulling her hand back, grabbing her bag with the other hand and pressing it against his face. "Gabriel, you hypocritical scoundrel! This is my car!"
Gabriel leaned back in the passenger seat, not resisting, only letting out a muffled laugh from behind the bag. "Jessica, are you trying to kill me?"
Jessica continued to press down hard, leaning half her body towards the passenger seat.
Suddenly, she felt a pressure around her waist and glanced down in surprise to find Gabriel, his face concealed by her bag, skillfully encircling her with his arm. With all her strength focused on her hands, she lost her balance and fell into his arms, her nose bumping against his chest.
Her bag fell to the side, and Gabriel, one arm around her waist, discreetly unbuckled her seatbelt with the other, looking down at her. "After filming night scenes for several days, didn't you miss me?"
"I can rest for a few days after I finish filming, then I'll think about the studio," she mumbled against his chest, trying to sit up. But Gabriel's arm around her waist didn't let go, so she stayed in his arms, breathing in his cool, reassuring scent.
Mentioning the studio, she suddenly looked up at him in the dark, her eyes meeting Gabriel's deep, ocean-like gaze. "Mackenzie suddenly wants to invest ten million dollars in my studio and become my partner. Even if she doesn't lack money, she couldn't come up with such a large sum all of a sudden. This money is from you, isn't it?"
