Chapter 251 This Kiss Wasn't any Lighter Than That Night

Jessica fell silent.

She thought, 'How did he know about that photo?'

'But is he patiently explaining it to her?'

The surprise in her expression was clearly written on her face. Gabriel glanced at her leisurely and asked, "Are there any other misunderstandings? Let me clear them all up."

Jessica looked embarrassed. She couldn't decide whether to get angry or not. In front of Gabriel, she suddenly felt like an immature little girl.

But she remembered the words that girl posted on Facebook: My man.

Jessica finally found a reason to regain some momentum. "Your so-called sister likes you. Didn't you know?"

Even though she was a patient and spoke weakly, leaning against the headboard and looking sickly, she didn't seem imposing at all.

Gabriel, however, wasn't very surprised. He calmly said, "I'm not close to her. We only meet once every few years. I haven't paid much attention to that."

His tone was very nonchalant.

It seemed like it didn't matter whether it was his so-called sister or any other woman who admired him. He didn't care about any of them and hadn't paid much attention.

"Oh."

Besides saying that, she didn't know what else to say for a moment.

Gabriel was just too straightforward.

So straightforward that she wondered why she had been so upset these past few days. It wasn't that she didn't trust him, but how could she explain her awkward jealousy?

Should she use the excuse that it was her first relationship and she couldn't control her temper?

That reason felt stupid and brainless.

After saying 'oh,' she didn't speak again. She just glanced sideways, thinking she might as well grab the water cup to alleviate her one-sided embarrassment and then calmly use her rational adult mind to consider the straightforward Gabriel in front of her.

"Not angry anymore?" Gabriel clearly didn't intend to let her off.

"I wasn't that angry to begin with." Jessica turned her head slightly, avoiding his gaze.

Gabriel sneered, "Blocking me on the phone and WhatsApp, that's called not angry?"

Stop, stop. She already knew she was so childish in handling relationship issues.

"Do you need to hold a knife to my neck when you're really angry?"

Jessica suddenly felt cornered. She turned her eyes to him but then saw Gabriel approaching. He placed his long arms on either side of her, trapping her between the headboard and his body, staring deeply into her eyes. "Don't want to talk about it anymore?"

She twitched her mouth and muttered, "You know but you still asked."

Gabriel raised an eyebrow, looking leisurely at her weak, embarrassed face that seemed eager to escape. "Your jealousy is so obvious. By rounding up, you're agreeing to be my wife."

Jessica was stunned.

She couldn't believe it. "You... mmph."

Gabriel's hand suddenly covered the back of her head, and his kiss swallowed all the words she wanted to retort.

She had the flu now!

The contagious kind!

Jessica instinctively tried to push him away, but he paused only for a moment before his other arm wrapped around her, pulling her closer for a deeper kiss.

"Gabriel, mmph... stop!"

She couldn't push him away.

Couldn't stop him.

This kiss wasn't any lighter than the one at the Sunshine Bay City hotel that night.

If Jessica weren't burning with a high fever from the flu and was so weak that her whimpering and resistance were minimal, she suspected Gabriel might have taken the opportunity to pull her into bed and make love.

It wasn't until Jessica was utterly exhausted and leaning against him, too weak to even lean back against the headboard, that Gabriel's kiss finally moved to lightly touch her nose.

She half-closed her eyes, her long lashes trembling.

"Sleep a bit more." He patted her head like comforting a child.

Jessica buried her face in his neck. Although her nose was a bit stuffy, she could still clearly feel Gabriel's scent and mumbled, "Mm."

Gabriel helped her lie back down, covered her with the blanket, and was about to grab the glass of water and leave when Jessica, half-asleep, said, "Danielle's still sick. I won't feel at ease if I don't go back to check on her."

"When I went down to get your clothes, I saw Caroline taking care of her. She's probably still sleeping at this hour. In your current state, going back would only give Caroline another person to look after." Gabriel looked at her. "Kids recover quickly. To avoid unnecessary cross-infection, I suggest you stay here and rest. Go back when you're better."

Jessica didn't say anything more. She nodded, her head aching too much, and closed her eyes.

But she didn't sleep well because of the fever. Adults' resistance wasn't as strong as kids'. No matter how severe a child's fever was, as long as it could be reduced in time, they could endure it. Adults, however, suffer more.

Jessica felt like she was in a furnace, burning intensely. It had gone from initial chills to feeling hot all over.

When she suddenly woke up again, the curtains were still drawn, but the bedside lamp was on. She turned her head to look around and realized she was still at Gabriel's place.

She sat up and found her phone, checking the time.

It was already past seven in the morning.

Although she still felt weak, she didn't want to lie down any longer.

As she got out of bed and pulled back the covers, she glanced at the bed behind her, realizing this was Gabriel's bedroom, and this bed and blanket were what he slept in every day.

This feeling was different.

How had they suddenly become so intimate?

But she had even given him a hand job in Sunshine Bay City. What couldn't be more intimate?

But how did it happen so suddenly?

It was almost too abrupt.

On the nightstand by the bed was a glass of water, clearly placed there by Gabriel while she was still asleep, ready for her to drink when she woke up.

After drinking half a glass of water, Jessica got up and looked around the room by the light of the bedside lamp. She couldn't find the switch for the main light. Suddenly, she tripped over the thick carpet by the bed, stumbled forward, and the cup in her hand fell heavily onto the nightstand. The moment the sound echoed, the room's lights suddenly turned on.

Startled, she looked up at the ceiling light. After steadying herself, she hesitantly raised her hand and clapped in the air.

The light turned off.

Clapping again, the light turned on.

Oh, voice-activated. How fancy!

But now, she could see everything in the bedroom clearly. The main colors were gray-blue and gray-white, with minimal decorations, very simple and clean, matching Gabriel's style. The bed's blanket was also a very minimalistic gray. It was quite comfortable to sleep in. If she weren't aching all over from the high fever, she might have enjoyed the bed more.
