Chapter 272 His Eyes Grew Even Deeper
"Miss, you can afford a '95 Lafite, but you're worried about a 111 dollars bucks?" The waiter couldn't help but glance at her again.
"Of course, I care! Haven't you heard that many women can buy expensive things online, but they can't stand it if there's no free shipping? Same principle!" Jessica gave the waiter a look. "Two bottles of mineral water. It's already on the menu. Please bring them quickly. Thank you!"
The waiter wanted to say something more but suddenly realized that this lady had been teasing him all along. Embarrassed, he turned and left the private room.
Once the room was quiet again, Jessica took off her mask behind the steaming hot dish and exhaled deeply. "People have so many ways to make money these days. The waiter saw you dressed well and tried to sell you drinks to earn a commission. This one wasn't even honest; he wanted a tip for running errands. Do I look like someone easy to scam?"
Gabriel chuckled deeply. "Maybe I look like a rich second-generation guy ready to mess around with a celebrity. He was waiting for me to speak up."
Jessica knew that.
She didn't want the waiter to bother him too much.
After all, she had said she would treat this meal, and no matter how rich Gabriel was, there was no need to be scammed in such a place. Even a dollar taken from a sugar daddy wasn't worth it.
She thought a few jokes would make the waiter leave quickly, avoiding further nagging. But Gabriel, even though he didn't say a word, saw the situation clearly.
Whether big or small, he was always so clear-headed.
Such a clear-headed Gabriel actually liked her.
The embarrassed waiter didn't come back, calling another waiter to serve the dishes. After the door closed, no one disturbed them again.
When they left the restaurant, it was already 8:30 PM, and it was still snowing.
It wasn't far from here to Blue Bay Apartments, just a ten-minute walk. Jessica was full and wanted to walk back.
Gabriel's car was nearby, and it wasn't far from the Harriman Group. The car could be driven back by Landon in the morning. He walked with her in the snow, and when he saw Jessica's breath in the cold air, he pulled her hat and scarf tightly around her. "Wear it properly, don't catch a cold."
Jessica didn't wear gloves, and her coat didn't have pockets. As she walked, her hands felt cold. Just as she raised her hands to blow on them, Gabriel reached over, pulled her hands down, and pressed her into his arms, tucking her hands inside his coat. Through his shirt, she felt the warmth of his waist.
"Running out in such cold weather, didn't you know to dress warmly?"
Gabriel looked down at her as she suddenly raised her face.
Under the streetlight, with snowflakes falling, Jessica's clear and beautiful face looked up at him.
He pressed her closer. "Still cold? Should I get the car?"
"No, it's not far. No need to go back for the car." Jessica smiled, leaning into his embrace, warming herself with his body heat. "Your trip and meetings in D.C. must be important, right? I saw on Facebook that Wayne and Landon are still in D.C., but you came back. Are you going back tonight?"
Gabriel's eyes had a hint of a smile, but he said lightly, "When did you add them on WhatsApp? I didn't know."
"We occasionally contact each other, so I added them." Jessica blinked at him. "Don't change the subject. Why did you come back suddenly? Didn't I say I could handle it myself, and you didn't need to worry?"
"You're so confident. Of course. I'm not worried." Gabriel's smile on the snowy night was charming. "But who knows if you'll cry under the covers at night?"
Jessica raised her face. "Do I look like I'm crying?"
Gabriel looked at her and said slowly, "Not only are you not crying, but you're also in a good mood, having dinner with your ex."
Jessica was stunned.
"He asked to meet, considering the issues with Trinity and some old matters related to him. When I wanted to end things, it was appropriate to talk to him. Besides, I didn't even eat that plate of pasta, but I spent twenty dollars!"
Jessica didn't know if she was explaining or lamenting the twenty dollars. She muttered, "And he can't strictly be called an ex. Although there were feelings, I was so closely watched by the Jenner family, busy with dance and classes during the day, and there was a curfew at night. I had no free time, and our dates never lasted more than ten minutes."
"Sounds like you are very wronged."
"Not at all! No matter what, it's not as bad as Mr. Harriman rushing back from D.C. in this snowy night only to drink a bottle of mineral water."
Jessica laughed, hugging him tighter, feeling warmer.
"Indeed." Gabriel's eyes smiled more. "I have to rush back tonight. Now that you mention it, I do feel a bit unbalanced."
Jessica looked up, her chin resting on his chest, her eyes bright. "How do you want to balance it?"
Gabriel's arm around her waist tightened, pulling her closer. His eyes deepened, the meaning clear.
Jessica kept her head up, looking at him, and suddenly smiled. "When will your trip to D.C. end?"
"The day after tomorrow."
Jessica pondered for a moment, then asked a particularly random question, her voice soft. "Which of my nightgowns looks best?"
Gabriel's brow twitched, looking down at her. Jessica hugged him tighter, unusually proactive.
His eyes darkened, but his voice was low and casual. "Nightgown?"
"When you were recovering at my place, I often wore loungewear and nightgowns. Which one looked best?"
"The white one."
Jessica was speechless.
She only had one white nightgown.
The one she wore when she asked him to help wash her hair because her neck was stiff.
She never figured out when Gabriel started liking her.
It turned out to be from that time!
