Chapter 155 The Look of Settling Scores Later

"What kind of ability and talent did that freeloader rely on to capture your heart back then?"
Mackenzie still couldn't understand. "Although I only caught a fleeting glimpse of him then, without noting his specific features, that single glance was enough to confirm his exceptional attractiveness. But Jessica, you are not a superficial person. Why would you suddenly keep a man at home? What's the big deal about him? You're into him just for his looks?"
Jessica said, "Mackenzie, please stop."
"Are you saying you don't want to hear what I have to say? Since you have completely broken up with that pretty boy now, I don't want to see him again."
"Jessica, remember, if I see him in your house again, I will definitely grab a mop and slam it on his head, take off my shoe, and throw the heel at his face. I want to see how thick-skinned he really is."
Jessica had given Mackenzie meaningful looks more than once, but once Mackenzie started talking, it was hard to stop her.
Mackenzie inquired, "What's wrong with your eyes? Why are you squinting like that? Did you stay up late reading the script last night? Didn't you sleep well?" Mackenzie looked at her with a puzzled expression, finally realizing that Jessica's gaze seemed to be looking past her.
As Mackenzie continued to voice her doubts, she turned her head back, only to see Gabriel standing expressionless behind her at some point. She then averted her gaze, turned towards Jessica, and said, "Also, in the future..."
Just as she began to speak, Mackenzie froze in horror, then quickly turned her eyes back to the tall and stern Gabriel behind her. Meeting Gabriel's clear and cold gaze, she opened her mouth as if to say something but couldn't find the words.
"Why the sudden silence?" Gabriel's voice was calm and light.
Upon hearing Gabriel speak, Mackenzie instantly took two steps back as if waking from a dream, creating a safe distance before exclaiming, "You..."
She turned her eyes to Jessica in disbelief, still pointing in Gabriel's direction, her voice slightly altered, "I thought you had completely cut ties with him? How is he still in your house? You moved to a place like this and still couldn't get rid of him."
With that, Mackenzie glared angrily at the indifferent Gabriel. "Why do you keep hanging around Jessica?"
Gabriel's demeanor remained cold and unaffected by Mackenzie's agitated state as he calmly turned his gaze toward Jessica. "Is it better now?"
Jessica was momentarily stunned and thought, 'Better now? What did he mean by that?'
Reflecting on the events of last night, she remembered accidentally falling asleep in the study.
Why did she prefer to curl up on the single sofa in the study rather than go back to her room alone at that time? Perhaps she didn't understand it then, but now, after a good night's sleep, her mind had calmed down, and she seemed to have figured it out.
Probably, she was still quite scared.
She responded with a nod, intending to explain why she had unintentionally fallen asleep in the study last night. However, with Mackenzie's strong presence at the moment, coupled with her shocked and questioning gaze fixed on her, Jessica could only give Mackenzie a silent look, urging her to say less.
At that moment, Mackenzie's attention suddenly shifted to Gabriel's attire.
The shirt and trousers worn by this person did not seem to be made of ordinary fabric available on the market, and the style was not commonly seen either.
Moreover, just his silent presence there exuded an extraordinary air of elegance, adding a touch of oppression to the air.
He was markedly different from the handsome men in the entertainment industry who relied solely on their looks to attract countless fans. Although his appearance could easily captivate numerous fangirls, he exuded an aloofness that made it clear he would never step into that circle.
A barrier seemed to surround him, deterring anyone from approaching easily or breaking through.
Mackenzie pondered for a moment, then confirmed the expensive value of the shirt and trousers Gabriel was wearing. She suddenly turned her gaze to Jessica, seemingly asking with her eyes. Did you buy this outfit for him?
Jessica silently returned Mackenzie's gaze, responding with her eyes. When did your judgment become so off? Do you think I can afford his clothes?
Mackenzie then looked back at Gabriel, her gaze shifting between him and Jessica.
"Mackenzie, how about I introduce you to him?" Jessica felt that if the atmosphere continued to be tense like this, Mackenzie might not be thinking clearly, so she quickly tried to defuse the situation.
"Introduce me?" Mackenzie raised her eyebrows suddenly. "How do you plan to introduce me?"
"How do you plan to introduce me?" Gabriel's voice almost overlapped with Mackenzie's, his tone cold and deep, but he carried a powerful presence.
Jessica thought, ' How should I introduce them? It needs to be the sort of introduction that not only clears up misunderstandings but also instantly sobers up Mackenzie!
'
Without further ado, Jessica quickly pointed at Mackenzie. "This is my manager, Mackenzie Weaver. I usually call her Mackenzie. She is the artist director at BlueOcean Media, as well as the head and boss of my studio, and most importantly, a good friend and partner in my life."
Then Jessica paused for a moment, looking at Gabriel. "Mackenzie, this is..."
After a few seconds of hesitation, she looked at Mackenzie, seeming to realize the nature of the misunderstanding and her somewhat stunned expression. Then, she turned to Gabriel, who was clearly waiting to settle scores with Mackenzie in the future, with a cold and distant expression.
Jessica suddenly changed the subject. "This is Spencer. He is currently staying with me and often eats at my place. Although he hasn't found a proper job yet, I have no extra thoughts about him, and he has no interest in me. Nothing inappropriate has happened between us, Mackenzie, so please stop calling him a kept man!"
Gabriel turned his gaze towards her, the look of settling scores later directed at her even colder than before.
Avoiding his gaze, Jessica went over and pulled the dazed Mackenzie towards the door, saying as she pulled her. "So, Mackenzie, if anything comes up later on, just give me a buzz and we can meet up at the studio. No need for you to swing by just to drop off the script. After I've dug into the new script, we can hash it out. If you've got other stuff to tackle, just go ahead. Don't sweat about me, no need for goodbyes!"
Jessica dragged Mackenzie all the way to the door and pushed her out. When Mackenzie turned back to glare at him, she quietly said, "Gabriel, find out for yourself."
After saying that, Jessica closed the door, leaving the bewildered Mackenzie's gaze locked outside.
Jessica turned her eyes back to the tall and dignified Gabriel standing in the living room. Meeting his clear and calm gaze sent a chill down her spine. She quickly walked over, trying to change the subject. "Were you busy studying all night until now?"
