Chapter 82 Gabriel Was Ruthlessly Rhung up on

Jessica idled away the whole day at the hospital. In the evening, Mackenzie and Zoey brought dinner from a nearby restaurant to accompany her.
Jessica was starving, having missed the grilled spare ribs she had a few days ago while resting on the hospital bed after examination.
Zoey quickly opened the meal box, revealing tacos, soup, and two of Jessica's favorite home-cooked dishes.
They sat around the white table next to the bed, enjoying the meal. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Since no one else knew she was in the hospital, the visitor must have had no connection to her. Jessica extended her foot to prod Mackenzie's buttocks to prompt her to open the door while she sat cross-legged on the edge of the bed, continuing to stuff food into her mouth.
Mackenzie shot her a look. "I'm your boss!"
Jessica gestured towards her neck, sporting a characteristic air of righteous assertion typical of a patient.
Mackenzie rolled her eyes and noticed Zoey also gesturing to her arm, indicating she was a patient, too.
Reluctantly, Mackenzie got up to open the door, asking, "Who is it?"
Normally, only the regular nurses came for rounds in this ward . They would notify before entering, not knock and wait outside.
Outside the ward, a very polite male voice rang out, "Hello, is Miss Jessica here? I'm from the dining department of the Joyful Hotel, here to deliver a meal for Miss Jessica."
The Joyful Hotel?
Wasn't that a well-known five-star hotel near the hospital?
And quite expensive too!
Mackenzie looked at Jessica, who seemed equally puzzled. After swallowing her food, Jessica, along with Zoey, turned to the door with a bewildered expression.
Mackenzie opened the door.
The delivery person politely handed over the insulated meal box, saying, "Hello, Keegan has ordered our hotel's meal for Miss Jessica. It includes four dishes and a soup, along with a box of the hotel's special pastries, all for Miss Jessica."
Mackenzie was taken aback, but the delivery person swiftly handed her part of the meal box, placed the rest near the door, smiled, and left.
After the person left, Mackenzie closed the door and then looked at Jessica with the meal box in hand. "Keegan?"
Jessica, showing no emotion, put down her utensils. "I'm full."
Zoey was surprised, "Ah? There's so much left, Mackenzie, and I can't finish it."
"Let's eat our own, throw away the rest," Jessica said, not even glancing at the meal boxes with the Joyful Hotel logo in Mackenzie's hands and by the door.
Mackenzie checked the contents in her hands. "I think it is a regular meal, but it's actually a special set from the Joyful. These dishes are your favorites, Jessica. The person who ordered knows your taste well. And that pastry is a unique chiffon cake from the Joyful, usually not sold to non-hotel guests, let alone delivered. You can't get it even if you queue up."
Mackenzie glanced at Jessica. "Are you sure you don't want to eat?"
Without lifting an eyelid, Jessica replied, "Throw it away."
Zoey, puzzled but cautious, remained silent. Mackenzie seemed to be probing something, but Jessica's indifferent and resolute attitude made it hard to understand. So, Zoey chose not to interfere, quietly eating her food.
Jessica didn't go home that night, and Gabriel had received the news when she had just entered the hospital in the afternoon.
In the evening, Landon called, detailing the various events that had occurred in the company over the past few days. Due to Simon's increasingly unusual behavior, Landon had a hunch that Mr. Harriman would be returning soon.
After discussing company matters, Landon looked at the messages and photos on his another cellphone, hesitated, and then said, "Miss Jessica needs to stay in the hospital for two days for recovery. The individuals we have arranged at the hospital have also reinforced security on her floor. Apart from the driver's family attempting to enter the hospital but being stopped, no other suspicious individuals have been found. However..."
Gabriel sensed a hint of hesitation in his words and coldly asked, "Go on."
"During dinner, someone from the Joyful Hotel near the hospital unexpectedly came to deliver a meal to Miss Jessica. Since the person wasn't there for the driver, they weren't intercepted by our team. Surprisingly, they went directly to deliver the meal to Miss Jessica.Keegan ordered the meal from the Four Seas Entertainment. ." After a pause, Landon continued. "However, Miss Jessica doesn't eat anything. She throws everything directly into the hospital corridor's automated disinfection trash can."
Gabriel stood tall and silent by the window, his gaze steady and unmoving.
While Gabriel remained silent, Landon felt a faint chill down his spine at the other end of the line . Landon didn't say more, as he had already reported everything he needed to.
Even though Landon couldn't quite understand, whenever there was work to be delegated, Gabriel would typically hang up coldly after discussing the matter. Yet, now he seemed to be making an exception for Jessica.
Even after investigating the car accident case on the bridge, Gabriel seemed to intend to send people to ensure Jessica's safety. Gabriel hadn't explicitly stated this order, but Landon could sense it.
Could it be that Gabriel...
Landon was usually straightforward in his actions, but this time, he seemed to have a bit of insight.
Clearly, the driver of the accident was just a lead to uncover the mastermind behind the scenes, not an important person to watch over. In comparison, Jessica was the top priority.
Late at night, after Mackenzie and Zoey had gone home, p1the television was airing a variety program.
Close to eleven o'clock, Jessica's cellphone received a text message notification. She glanced at the screen, seeing the name she had saved as Spencer.
Spencer: [Not coming back tonight?]
Jessica was about to reply but stopped.
Why should she explain her whereabouts to him?
Repeatedly in her mind, Jessica kept saying to herself, ”He was just someone she had saved and temporarily housed, He could leave at any time as there was no bond between us.” After silently repeating this to herself for a while, she set her cell phone aside.
After half an hour, Gabriel didn't receive a reply from Jessica.
Staring at the silent cell phone with his dark eyes, Gabriel dialed her number directly.
However, as soon as the call connected, Jessica hung up on him.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Sorry..."
Gabriel, who had always been one to rebuff others for the first time consistently, felt speechless at being coldly ignored and hung up on by a woman.
