Chapter 638 Sweet Extra - Couple Variety Show 123
The women's volleyball game was heating up, but before it started, the show's producer pulled Jessica aside and quietly reminded her to be careful. They were clearly worried she might get hurt during such a simple activity.
If anything happened to the baby she was carrying, the entire crew would be in serious trouble, not to mention the potential impact on the show's broadcast.
Jessica smiled, gave a thumbs-up, and entered the court.
The game turned out to be more intense than Jessica had expected. The female guests initially just wanted to warm up, but they ended up having a blast.
Jessica quickly got into the groove, and after hitting a few balls, she stepped back a bit to give the other team members more camera time.
Rachel had missed a chance to hit the ball because Jessica was too quick. As soon as Jessica stepped back, Rachel rushed forward to take the next shot. Whether intentional or not, her hip bumped into Jessica.
Luckily, Jessica dodged quickly, avoiding a direct hit to her stomach.
As she stepped back, she glanced at Rachel and then looked over at Amy on the opposite side. Amy caught her gaze, received the ball, and spiked it hard towards their side.
Rachel was ready to hit the ball, but Jessica blocked her path with her leg, jumped up, and accurately returned the ball to the other side.
Rachel turned to look at Jessica.
Jessica met her gaze and smiled slightly, "Keep it up."
Rachel's face showed no sign of a smile. She turned her eyes back to the game, determined to get another chance to hit the ball.
Jessica, however, was mindful of the baby she was carrying and didn't want to risk anything over a moment of pride. She had already made her point.
Jessica signaled that she wanted to take a break, and the director blew the whistle to agree.
She quickly grabbed a towel to wipe her face, then removed her wristbands and knee pads as she walked towards the men's basketball court.
Seeing a staff member looking her way, she confidently pointed in that direction and mouthed, "I'm going to watch."
The staff member smiled and waved her on.
Jessica didn't want to miss Gabriel's basketball debut. Despite how handsome Gabriel was now, he was no longer a seventeen or eighteen-year-old high schooler. He was nearing thirty, and this debut in front of her was likely a once-in-a-lifetime event. If not for this opportunity, it probably wouldn't happen again.
Little did Jessica know that when this episode of Mantanani Island aired, Gabriel's so-called "debut" would skyrocket the show's popularity to heights no outdoor reality show had reached in five years.
But that's a story for another time.
On the basketball court, the game was intense. Clayton, despite not wanting to be on the same team as Lester, was fully engaged. After all, men are boys at heart, and once they start playing, they get into it.
With Kevin playing well, Clayton's confidence grew. Even though Gabriel initially stayed on the sidelines, barely touching the ball, Clayton made a point to challenge him the few times he did. Blocking him, Clayton laughed and taunted while adjusting his wristbands, "Come on, Mr. Harriman, let's play! Just remember, no post-game critiques!"
