Chapter 448 Her increasingly soft and tender voice
Gabriel was genuine. His confidence, competence, and unique qualities were all tempered by a quiet, steady humility that was simply part of him. It was something intangible, hard to define.
Gabriel was already pretty amazing, but when Jessica sat down to eat, she was blown away by the spread of dishes he had whipped up himself.
"How is this even possible?" Jessica, a woman who had seen it all and been through the wringer in the entertainment industry, almost teared up.
Jessica thought she wouldn't be able to finish all the food, but with the red wine Gabriel poured and the delicious dishes, she ended up eating until she was stuffed and still couldn't stop.
It was probably the most she'd ever eaten in her life.
After the meal, she went out for a run around the island in the lake to help her digest. Even though it was already dark, Azure Water Bay was lit up beautifully. Especially in the scenic area outside the lake, the gates and attractions had these really intricate and gorgeous lighting designs. From the island, it wasn't too bright; it was just this soft, stunning view. The angle from here was rare and breathtaking.
Jessica had been busy her whole life, not necessarily just to survive, but she'd never taken a vacation, a pleasure trip. Never simply stopped to appreciate a view.
She originally just wanted to run a few laps to digest so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable at night, but as she ran, she ended up sitting on a small stone platform in front of the villa, staring at the distant scenery for a long time.
Inside the villa, the empty plates on the dining table had already been put into the dishwasher.
Jessica went out for a run without taking her phone.
Gabriel picked up her phone, which she had tossed on the sofa, and was about to take it to her. As he walked outside, he accidentally touched the screen and saw two unread messages from Kevin.
So Gabriel casually unlocked the phone. Before he could read the messages, the first thing he saw was the screen where Jessica had been editing his contact name but hadn't saved it yet. The name "Caretaker" was right above his name.
Gabriel's handsome eyebrows raised slightly. He closed the edit screen, leaving the change unsaved.
At the same time, he saw that the original contact name was "Dear."
The night wind was a bit chilly. Jessica had only worn a jacket when she came out to run, but the beautiful scenery in front of her made her forget the cold. She sat there for a long time without wanting to move.
Suddenly, a coat was draped over her shoulders and her phone was handed to her. Jessica touched her slightly red nose from the cold and looked back to see Gabriel, who had somehow found her.
"How did you know I was here?"
This island in the lake was pretty big and she had run for a long time to get to this spot.
"You like places with light." Gabriel casually adjusted the coat on her back to make sure it was snug and warm.
Jessica looked around and noticed that although there were lights all around the island, the spot where she was sitting was the brightest and most spacious. No wonder she instinctively didn't want to leave.
Gabriel knew her better than she knew herself.
"I wanted to take a picture of the night view over there, but I didn't bring my phone," Jessica said, raising her phone to snap a few shots of the beautiful scenery. Then she noticed two unread messages on Facebook.
They were from Kevin.
Kevin: [Shadow Kill crew channel list]
Kevin: [I have an ad event in Sunshine Bay City tomorrow morning. I'll be back in the afternoon. The morning scenes have been moved to later, so you don't have to go so early. It's all dialogue scenes. We'll go over the script when I get there.]
Even though it was all work stuff, Gabriel probably saw the messages from Kevin when he brought her phone over.
She turned back to say something but met Gabriel's calm, gentle, and somewhat meaningful gaze.
But that look didn't seem to have anything to do with Kevin's messages.
Jessica's eyelids twitched, and she suddenly thought of something. She quickly looked down at her phone.
Seeing the contact name for Gabriel, she quickly looked away and continued to gaze at the distant scenery. She then pulled her collar tighter, shook her foot, and suddenly grimaced.
"I think I sat too long; my feet are numb."
The night on the island in the lake, although the air was indeed good, was at least 37-39 degrees Fahrenheit colder than outside the island due to being surrounded by the lake.
Jessica had worn the same clothes she came in when she went out for a run. Although she usually paid attention to keeping warm and wasn't dressed lightly, sitting there for so long had not only made her feet numb but also her legs.
Around nine in the evening, it started snowing on the island. The sound of falling snow was clear.
Jessica lay on Gabriel's back, hugging his neck, with her face buried in his warm back, like a child who had played outside until they were exhausted and was being carried home by a parent. She leaned on him obediently without moving.
But in this atmosphere, it seemed like a waste not to say or do something.
Jessica moved her head closer, whispering in Gabriel's ear. "Grandpa and Grandma picked up Danielle again today. With all the good food at the estate, do you think she'll gain weight?"
Gabriel replied, "Sarah'll make sure she eats a balanced diet."
Jessica continued to lie on his back, her chin resting on his shoulder, looking at Gabriel's profile under the night lights, admiring the perfect and strong lines of his neck. She couldn't help but hug his neck tightly and, in a sudden whisper, said in his ear, "Dear, my leg's not numb anymore. I can walk by myself."
"Mm." Gabriel responded in a natural tone, but he didn't put her down, clearly not responding to her saying she could walk by herself, but to the previous term of endearment.
Jessica suddenly felt a bit mischievous and continued to whisper softly in his ear. "Dear."
"Mm."
"Dear."
"Mm."
His responses grew increasingly husky, her voice softer, the repetition of the endearment doing its work.
"Dear..."
As they reached the villa door, Jessica, unaware of the impending danger, continued to whisper in his ear. Suddenly, the door opened, and Gabriel swiftly placed her on the delicate low cabinet by the door, turning around and pressing her against the wall.
