Chapter 208 Gabriel Clearly Had No Intention of Stepping Aside
It was the housekeeping manager, a different one this time, looking older and more reliable than the last, carrying a small toolbox.
As soon as he entered, he bowed and apologized to Jessica sincerely, leaving her with no room to complain or scold. She could only point towards the bathroom. "I just used the shampoo, and I haven't rinsed it off yet; the floor is slippery, be careful when you go in."
After the housekeeping managerwent in, it only took a few minutes before he said inside, "It can be fixed, but it will take a little longer."
"How long?"
"About an hour."
Jessica was speechless.
An hour, and the shampoo on her head would dry naturally with her hair.
She didn't say anything, but just as she was about to close the door, she glanced at the tightly closed door across the hall.
After hesitating for a few seconds, her eyes lit up, and she turned back to get her phone.
In the spacious business van on the way back to the hotel, the driver, assigned by the city of Z, maneuvered through the streets. Wayne was sitting in the front passenger seat.
Gabriel was sitting behind the driver, reviewing a report on his tablet that his company had just sent over for his personal approval.
His phone vibrated in his pocket.
He took it out and saw a Whatsapp message from Jessica.
Jessica: [Are you staying at the resort with those Xyleria leaders tonight? You're not coming back to Urban Oasis Hotel, right?]
Gabriel replied: [What's the matter?]
Upon seeing that he didn't deny it, Jessica naturally assumed he would spend the night at the resort.
Jessica: [The water heater in my room is broken. Since you're not coming back tonight, can I borrow your room to take a shower?]
After sending the message, Jessica also sent a pleading funny emoji.
"Wayne, ask the front desk at the Urban Oasis Hotel to send a key card for room 8806 to room 8805."
Wayne, suddenly hearing Gabriel's words, instinctively turned around to ask why, but stopped himself and just acknowledged, then called the front desk at teh Urban Oasis Hotel.
On the other side, Jessica stared at her phone, thinking that Gabriel probably wouldn't refuse. After all, he wasn't coming back tonight, and using his bathroom wouldn't really affect anything.
But after sending the emoji, Gabriel didn't reply.
Jessica thought, 'Was my request not sincere enough?'
She decided to appeal both emotionally and logically with another message:
Jessica: [You have no idea how cold the water was just now. It suddenly turned cold while I was showering, from head to toe, and I'm still not over it.]
Just two seconds after sending the message, the doorbell rang again. Jessica opened the door in confusion, only to see a hotel staff member in uniform respectfully handing her a key card.
Jessica was confused.
The person at the door explained directly, "Ms. Jenner, this is the key card for room 8806. Please keep it."
"Oh? Thanks." Jessica took the card with a sudden realization. After the staff left, she looked at the key card in her hand, then at her phone.
On her phone screen, the Whatsapp page was still open.
Gabriel: [Hasn't it been delivered yet?]
Jessica: [Got it, thanks a lot! (fist bump)]
She put down her phone, quickly grabbed her towel and bathrobe, and hurriedly opened the door across the hall, eager to take a good shower.
The cold water earlier might have really chilled her to the bone. In Gabriel's room, the water temperature was perfect, as hot as she wanted, and she could shower for as long as she liked. After washing her hair, she filled the bathtub, turned off the shower, and sank into the tub, letting the warm water envelop her. She finally let out a long, comfortable sigh.
'Warmth!
'Comfort!
'Gabriel might as well stay a few more days at the resort, all the way until he return to Xyleria.
'His room was great; in all my days in Sunshine Bay City, this was the most enjoyable shower I had taken!' Jessica thought.
Jessica didn't know how long she had been soaking, but feeling that she might pass out if she stayed any longer. Jessica finally got out of the tub with a face flushed from the hot water. She took another quick shower, dried herself off, wrapped herself in a towel, and prepared to go out and get her bathrobe.
She had left the bathrobe on the sofa by the bed when she entered the room.
With steam still swirling in the bathroom, Jessica opened the bathroom door and walked out barefoot .
As soon as she stepped out, she heard the faint sound of the door opening.
Jessica didn't have time to react and instinctively turned her head.
Gabriel had called Jessica after arriving at the hotel, but she didn't answer.
It had been a while, he thought she should be done by now.
As soon as he opened the door, he saw Jessica stepping out of the bathroom, wrapped only in a towel. The towel was small, barely covering half of her thighs.
Jessica's shoulders, collarbones, and arms were exposed, with her legs long and slender.
Her long black hair was only casually dried, half-damp and half-dry, and she stood barefoot on the carpet. The towel was not tied very securely and almost came loose as she stood there stiffly.
The bathroom door was left open, and the air around her was still filled with the lingering steam of the bathroom, giving her an innocent yet slightly bewildered charm.
Gabriel looked at her, apparently finding the scene before him quite pleasing. But just after two or three seconds, he took a deep look at her again.
One second, two seconds, three seconds... ten seconds...
After a moment of immense shock and embarrassment, Jessica reacted; she quickly raise her hand to hold the towel in place, run to the sofa by the bed to grab her bathrobe, and then run back to the bathroom, as if Gabriel in the room was a wild beast. She decisively and quickly slammed the door shut.
Two minutes later, a woman wrapped in a bathrobe over her towel and with a hair drying cap on her head, opened the door and came out.
"Why didn't you say you were coming back tonight?" Jessica's tone was natural, as if nothing had happened, while she walked around looking for her indoor slippers, which she had hastily thrown somewhere.
As she searched, she noticed the slippers were on the carpet by the room entrance, less than half a foot from him.
She looked up and reluctantly met Gabriel's gaze.
Gabriel's eyes hadn't left her, but he didn't avoid her gaze either.
He calmly replied, "I never said I wasn't coming back."
Jessica's mouth twitched, suddenly remembering that she had only asked him on Whatsapp, and he had never actually said he wouldn't come back.
Gabriel said, "A few minutes ago, I called you, but you didn't answer."
Jessica replied, "I left my phone in the room, so I didn't hear it."
Gabriel chuckled but didn't say anything.
Jessica thought in her heart, 'What was so funny?
'What were you looking at?'
Jessica stood on the carpet, not thinking about what had just happened, but rather how she could get to her slippers and return to her room.
Gabriel stood there, clearly not intending to move.
After careful thought, Jessica spoke up, "Um, I've finished using the bathroom. It's getting late, so I'll just..."
"Come here."
Gabriel's voice suddenly broke the air, slightly husky, yet somehow irresistibly commanding.
