Chapter 58 Enchantress
Danielle, the little girl who spent every day immersed in cartoons, from Peppa Pig to various princesses, chose Jessica's Skype avatar. While fiddling with Jessica's cellphone, Danielle somehow changed her profile picture to one with a princess in a pink, poofy dress.
Later, when Jessica saw it, she couldn't be bothered to change it and left it as it was.
Nicholas had just added Jessica on Skype and noticed her profile was straightforward, without any fancy embellishments. Still, her avatar was colorful and frilly, with a princess adorned in a poofy dress.
In a message he sent her, he joked, "You left the scene so cool and detached. I thought you were a tough girl. Quite the personality clash you have going on."
Jessica had already put her cell phone down to get back to filming. It wasn't until three hours later that she listened to the voice message on Skype.
After hearing it, she didn't reply and turned to continue her work, not planning to engage with him at all.
She naturally had no idea that she didn't reply during these three hours. Nicholas went from suspecting she was playing hard to get to remembering the expression on her face on that stormy day when she stubbornly walked away from the car accident on the highway. He had looked at her extremely cute profile picture and decidedly believed that she truly had a split personality.
Looking at the address she sent, and having lived in Xyleria for so many years without hearing of the place, he casually asked the Harriman family driver who was standing by, "Where's this? Some dump?"
The driver, after a glance, replied respectfully, "This is a small community on the outskirts of Xyleria. It's an old building that was constructed at least twenty years ago. The residences there are quite dated, and it's rare for young people to move there nowadays unless they really can't afford housing in better areas."
"Ah." Nicholas turned and pointed to his car. "How's my car doing?"
The driver, a bit slow to keep up with the erratic train of thought of Nicholas , hesitated before quickly saying, "How is it? Well, it's a great car, of course."
Nicholas chuckled, "Talking with you middle-aged folks is exhausting. I mean, how much more expensive does my car look compared to hers?"
The driver hesitated, "Your Ferrari is worth over ten million dollars compared to her car, which is probably around forty thousand dollars; the difference is, well..."
"So," Nicholas raised his eyebrows, "She’s playing tricks with me."
The driver ventured, "Uh, maybe, possibly."
In his mind, the driver thought. ‘You might be overthinking it; she might not want anything to do with you.’
Nicholas stroked his chin. " She's playing hard to get with me."
He confidently analyzed this while scrolling through Jessica's social media. Seeing that not a single photo was posted, even the posts were scant, with only one from about twenty days ago.
Nicholas studied the incomprehensible social media post and showed it to the driver, "Look at this, just look. "
The driver responded, "Yes , you're absolutely right! You are so smart!"
Inwardly, the driver thought. ‘Life is tough; You have to please your boss when working.’
