Chapter 416 Is the Real-Life Overbearing CEO's Wife Escaping from the Entertainment Industry?
The car rolled up to the Harriman Group building.
Jessica hadn't even glanced at her phone the whole ride, even though it was buzzing like crazy in her pocket, just like Lynn and Zoey's phones.
Tons of messages and missed calls.
Once they parked, Lynn and Zoey jumped out to return their calls, and the driver stepped out for a smoke to chill out.
Jessica headed straight into the Harriman Group. She had a hat on but didn't bother pulling it down. With her blowing up on Instagram, the young employees at these big companies were all over the latest gossip. No need to cover up or act sneaky.
Of course, she got a lot of stares as she walked in.
Before she got to the office building, she had called Wayne. He was busy and told her to wait downstairs for a few minutes.
In those few minutes, almost every receptionist and staff member had their eyes glued to her.
When Wayne finally came down and saw Jessica waiting, he quickly made space in the elevator. "Mrs. Jenner, please step in."
"Where's Gabriel? In his office?"
"Mr. Harriman's in a meeting. He just got here a few minutes before the executive meeting. I just got here too, so I didn't join him." Wayne hit the button for the 68th floor.
It hadn't been long since he last took Jessica to the Star Tower.
Jessica snapped out of it and remembered to thank him: "Thanks, sorry for the hassle."
"No problem. It's my job to serve Mr. Harriman and Mrs. Harriman."
Being called "Mrs. Harriman" made Jessica feel a bit shy and awkward. It was just Wayne, but it felt weirder than facing thousands of fans at some event.
"Why haven't I seen Mr. Wilson around lately?" Jessica quickly changed the topic.
Wayne smiled, "Landon? He's been out of the country for a few days, handling some stuff abroad."
"Abroad?"
Jessica suddenly laughed, "Wasn't he supposed to go to Bangkok?"
"Bangkok?" Wayne, who hadn't been to San Francisco, looked confused and said, "No, he went abroad."
Jessica nodded, smiled, and didn't ask more.
When they got to the 68th floor, Wayne invited Jessica to sit in the office.
Knowing Jessica wasn't used to being called Mrs. Harriman, Wayne didn't push it, "Mr. Harriman's meeting will probably last at least another hour. Ms. Jenner, please make yourself comfortable. If you need anything, just call me. I'm in the office diagonally opposite, or you can use the internal phone on Mr. Harriman's desk."
"Okay, thanks."
Wayne left the office and soon came back with a cup of coffee, which he set down before heading back to his own office.
The office was super quiet. Jessica looked around and saw that Gabriel's office hadn't changed much in the past two years. She glanced towards the lounge, remembered something, and quickly looked down at her phone to stop certain memories from popping up.
After ignoring her phone for so long, Jessica's WhatsApp was blowing up.
Right at the top was Amy, who had insisted on adding her on WhatsApp yesterday on set. When she opened the chat, she saw Amy had sent dozens of lines filled with question marks and exclamation points.
It wasn't hard to figure out how 18-year-old Amy was feeling today.
Probably like a roller coaster.
Jessica felt the same: up and down, and super confused.
So she came straight here.
An ex suddenly becoming a husband.
Was he even an ex?
They skipped the whole getting-back-together thing and overnight she became Mrs. Harriman.
Jessica didn't reply to Amy, knowing that if she did, Amy would keep blowing up her phone and it would buzz non-stop.
After replying to a few friends from the same group, she saw a screenshot from Kevin of her and him as an on-screen couple on Instagram.
Kevin: [(screenshot)]
Kevin: [People are saying it's a shame our on-screen couple had a tragic ending, but wow, you married Mr. Harriman so fast.]
Jessica couldn't help but laugh and replied: [They've got wild imaginations.]
Kevin: [I'm pretty heartbroken right now. Did you really get married?]
Jessica: [Yep, the marriage certificate is legit.]
Kevin: [Goodbye.]
Jessica waited for Gabriel for what felt like forever. After replying to a few more messages, she opened Instagram and saw that the Harriman Group's official statement had over 500,000 shares and 400,000 comments. The post she made earlier also had over 200,000 comments.
She didn't open the comments but searched for stuff about her and Gabriel. As soon as she did, she saw several posts freaking out:
[Help! Is this real? I'm gonna lose it!]
[Is this the real-life version of a bossy CEO and his runaway bride from the entertainment industry? They're legally married!]
[Has anyone seen Gabriel's photo? There's only one side profile pic of him at a conference table, super handsome. No wonder Jessica secretly married him early. Who wouldn't want a CEO like this?]
Secretly married?
It hadn't even been 24 hours.
Jessica rarely spent this long on Instagram until she heard the office door open. She instinctively looked up.
The guy whose half-profile photo had been admired by fans for ages was now right in front of her, and it was the full face, the real deal.
Gabriel, who had just walked in, had taken off his suit jacket and was just in a white shirt. The suit jacket was casually draped over his arm, and a familiar dark silver glow flashed at his cuff. Before Jessica could get a good look, Gabriel had already set the suit jacket aside.
It was nearly noon, and the sunlight streaming through the office's floor-to-ceiling windows hit Gabriel's handsome face just right. He glanced at her, and the radiant glow around him made it seem like you could willingly fall into endless oblivion in that instant. Their eyes met, and she couldn't look away.
