Chapter 378 Because of Gabriel's Bending Motion, He Lay back down Again.
Daniel looked up, pushed his sticky hair back, and turned to see Jessica walking away without a second glance. He quickly strode over and grabbed her arm. "Jessica! Drop the act! Eugene is practically a wreck now—no skills, no home, no one to turn to. He's just wasting away in Washington, leeching off me!"
Jessica tried to shake off his hand. "What does it matter to me if Eugene is dead or alive? If he dies, let me know so I can buy some firecrackers for you to set off!"
Daniel scoffed, "For the past two years in City W, he's been groveling like a dog in front of Mr. Jenner, hoping for another chance to inherit the shares. You may not go back now, but who knows if you'll have a change of heart and run back to City W to beg Mr. Jenner for help like your useless dad!"
So, Daniel was giving her trouble because Eugene was still secretly competing with him.
Daniel's grip was strong, and Jessica couldn't break free. Her temples throbbed with anger, and she was too annoyed to argue. She glanced toward the police booth on the street, silently seeking help.
As expected, a police officer started walking over. Jessica then warned Daniel, "I don't want to waste time with you. If you're capable, keep a good hold on what you have. If you're afraid I'll come back one day to take your inheritance, that's not my problem! I've never had anything to do with the Jenner family. If you keep pushing me, you might just force me to go back and take something.
"Daniel, if I'm not capable, your precautions are unnecessary. If I am, you can't stop me. With your habit of overthinking and just talking, it's no wonder the Jenner family has fallen so far in just two years. You'd be better off learning the cutthroat ways of Stellaria City business circle, learning how to do business and deal with people, rather than constantly targeting a woman who hasn't even set foot in your business circle!"
"You may not be in the business circle, but your mistake is being a Jenner, being Eugene's daughter, and being discovered by Mr. Jenner!" Daniel squeezed her wrist hard and finally let go as the police officer approached, explaining a few things to the officer.
Jessica's cab had just pulled up. She quickly got in, glanced at her wrist, which was red from his grip, and took out a disinfectant wipe to clean it repeatedly.
Every time Daniel suddenly targeted her, it was because he had been scolded by Donald or had some other frustration. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so pointlessly annoying. He had used so much force just now that for a moment, she suspected he wanted to throw her into the middle of the road, hoping she'd die in the traffic.
Jessica thought, 'Did the incident at the Golden Orchid Hotel give him some idea? Or had Donald made some recent moves that made Daniel wish I would disappear immediately?
'My only mistake was being a Jenner, being Eugene's daughter.'
Indeed, she rarely agreed with that good-for-nothing, but she had known her mistake since she couldn't even get a clean bowl of leftovers from the Jenner family over twenty years ago. She shouldn't have been a Jenner.
Jessica stood outside the hospital room, where the person inside was her long-desired source of warmth and security.
But she hesitated.
Actually, there was no need for her to go in.
She could easily be as heartless as she was two years ago, hiring a hospital aide to take care of him and flying back to Xyleria.
But she didn't.
Obviously, she couldn't continue.
She couldn't go in.
However, she still returned to the hospital.
After all, the newly bought soft pillow had to be brought over.
Nurses were coming and going, delivering things to other rooms. Seeing her standing outside this room for quite a while, one nurse couldn't help but glance at her again as she passed by.
Jessica leaned her head against the door, closing her eyes, her mind in a fierce tug-of-war. One side was pulling her to leave, not to go in, while the other side was pushing her to go in quickly.
Suddenly, there was a sound from the door. Someone inside was opening it.
Jessica had no time to react. With her head already against the door, she stumbled forward as it opened.
She fell right into Gabriel's arms.
Gabriel raised his hand to catch her.
Jessica was momentarily stunned by the familiar scent and the smell of medicine. She quickly looked up to find herself in Gabriel's arms. Seeing his pale, weary face up close, she hurriedly stepped back, glanced around to make sure no nurses or passersby had seen her embarrassing moment, and quickly closed the door behind her.
She then turned to Gabriel, who had gotten out of bed. "Who told you to get out of bed? Didn't the doctor say you should rest? Isn't your wound supposed to stay still?"
Gabriel replied, "I heard rustling outside the door for about ten minutes. I thought there might be a mouse in the hospital, so I came to check."
Jessica's mouth twitched, but she remained silent. She just raised her hand to help him back to the bed.
"What happened to your hand?" Gabriel asked.
Before she could move, Gabriel had already noticed the red and blue marks on her wrist.
She quickly pulled her hand back. "It's nothing. Lie down. It's only been a day, and you're already out of bed. Do you think you're superhuman?"
Gabriel didn't move.
He stood there for a moment, then calmly repeated, "What happened to your hand?"
Jessica replied, "I hit it on the faucet when I went back to the hotel to shower and change."
He glanced at her. "A faucet left a ring of finger marks?"
'Damn it, Daniel! That bastard squeezed my wrist so hard that the finger marks were clearly visible. Ugh, I wish someone could chop off his hands and take his guts out tonight!' Jessica thought.
Seeing him standing still, Jessica couldn't forcefully drag him to the bed, fearing it would aggravate his wound.
She suddenly let go and said impatiently, "Are you going or not?"
Gabriel glanced at her hand hanging by her side, the marks too obvious.
"If you're not going, fine. I'm tired! I'll sleep!" Jessica decided not to bother with him, walked to the bed, sat down, lifted the blanket that smelled of medicine and him, and lay down, closing her eyes as if daring anyone to try to pull her off the bed after a sleepless night.
Hearing Gabriel's approach, Jessica said with her eyes closed, "If you think your injury isn't serious, there's a couch over there. Make do with it. I haven't slept since the incident, so I'm going to sleep now."
Jessica's body stiffened as she sensed something was wrong, and she quickly opened her eyes to sit up, only to be startled back down by Gabriel leaning over.
