Chapter 172 Hold Tight to Daddy Warbucks' Thighs

"My precious, you are so beautiful!"

The moment Mackenzie stepped into the dressing room; she was captivated by Jessica's stunning presence. Although Jessica was indeed a beauty, with good looks and exceptional temperament, she always exuded a fresh sense of beauty.

But relying solely on appearance was definitely not an exaggeration. This off-shoulder starry dress seemed to be tailor-made for her, especially at this moment when Jessica, a bit tired from the day's activities, her eyes carried a faint beauty as if stars were shattered on the lake's surface, breaking a pool of sparkling ripples. The aura she exuded from the inside out seemed different; this kind of natural and generous beauty is rarely seen in the entire medical and entertainment circle; the word "stunning" was not enough to describe Mackenzie's feelings at this moment.

Jessica felt a bit embarrassed by the praise, especially with others present. She gave Mackenzie a look to tone it down. Mackenzie walked over with a smile, touched the diamond jewelry around Jessica's neck, and couldn't help but sigh in her heart. Even though Jessica was the spokesperson for Tilans, this outfit and jewelry were definitely extravagant and exquisite. Was Tilans really so generous to Jessica?

Suddenly lowering her voice, Mackenzie asked, "Is there any connection between Tilans and the Harriman Group?"

Jessica's mind was not calm at the moment. Hearing this, she hesitated for a moment, not immediately responding, just looking at Mackenzie with confusion. "Huh?"

Seeing Jessica completely out of the loop, Mackenzie didn't bother to ask further. "You really got up too early today, tired all day long. You look so sleepy now like you can't even keep your eyes open. There's still some time before the banquet, so rest here for now. I'll come get you when it's time."

After saying that, Mackenzie politely nodded to the stylists in the dressing room, and they immediately understood and left.

It wasn't until Mackenzie also left to attend to other matters that Jessica was left alone to rest in the room.

She sat down on a simple sofa next to the dressing room wall and closed her eyes, trying to rest for a while.

The dressing room was extremely quiet. Jessica closed her eyes, almost falling asleep, but she was afraid that her sleeping position might ruin the hairstyle she had just done. So she could only lean against the side of the sofa, slightly tilting her head and closing her eyes, trying not to mess up her hair.

In this drowsy state, not knowing how long she had slept, a strange sound suddenly came from the quiet dressing room, like the crackling sound of electricity.

Jessica opened her eyes drowsily, only to see the lights above in the dressing room flickering as if they were malfunctioning, going on and off, hurting her eyes.

She frowned, got up to call for help, and opened the door, but there was no one in the corridor outside. The lights in the corridor were also flickering, which was particularly strange.

Jessica hesitated, about to go back to get her phone to call Mackenzie and Zoey, when she suddenly heard footsteps outside. She turned and saw a person in work clothes, wearing a hat, goggles, and a mask, carrying a toolbox, walking in her direction.

For some reason, that person gave her a strangely familiar feeling, but his work clothes concealed his figure, and the large protective mask and goggles made it hard to see his face clearly.

"Sorry, there's voltage instability on this hotel floor, and the main circuit breaker for this floor is in this room. The boss sent me over to fix it." The man walked over, stood in front of Jessica, and said a sentence before trying to enter the room directly.

Jessica looked at the man, subconsciously stepped aside from the door, then turned to go inside to get her phone.

For some reason, as the man in work clothes entered the room, he shot a glance her way.

Fortunately, instead of closing the door directly, he turned to the other side of the wall and took down a painting hanging there, revealing the switch for the main circuit breaker hidden below the painting.

He squatted down and started working on it.

Because the circuit breaker was suddenly turned off, the lights in the dressing room went out instantly.

The room plunged into darkness, and then, in the next moment, the worker took out a bright flashlight from his toolbox, illuminating a part of the room. He also put on a headlamp that could be fixed in front of his forehead.

Although he was just an electrician, Jessica couldn't help feeling very anxious for some reason, feeling that something was off.

She sent a message to Mackenzie asking where she and Zoey were, but after waiting for a while, she didn't receive a reply.

Calling Mackenzie and Zoey resulted in no answer either.

Continuing to call, both of them seemed to be constantly busy on the line, impossible to reach.

"Could you help me get the other end of the voltage tester?" The worker squatting next to the circuit breaker suddenly spoke, turning his head to look at her.

Jessica, feeling uneasy with his gaze, didn't want to get closer, but for some reason, she couldn't control her steps and actions, so she actually walked over to help him.

As she glanced at the toolbox next to the worker, she realized it didn't contain the electrical tools she had expected but rather what seemed to be a piece of clothing.

Upon closer inspection, her face suddenly changed.

It was a white dance costume, the one she had worn in a national dance competition when she was in her teens, a long-sleeved dance costume with visible bloodstains!

Jessica's whole body was covered in goosebumps. She was about to drop what she was holding and step back when the worker squatting in front suddenly removed his mask and goggles, revealing the face of Mr. Rogers, whom she had once admired and shouted at!

She was so shocked that she couldn't speak, wanting to escape, but Mr. Rogers quickly reached into the toolbox, grabbed a rope hidden under the dance costume, and fiercely pulled her back by the neck.

"Jessica?"

"Jessica? Don't fall asleep."

Jessica suddenly opened her eyes, looking up to see Mackenzie holding a phone in one hand and patting her on the shoulder with the other.

Seeing Jessica awake, Mackenzie finally answered the phone that had been ringing for a while, giving Jessica a look to remind her that it was almost time for the banquet.

It took Jessica a while to come to her senses, looking around the dressing room.

There was no flickering light due to voltage instability and no circuit breaker hidden behind a painting. The dressing room was clean, with only a few makeup mirrors adorned with lights, a few potted plants on the sides, bright lights all around, and nothing else.

Stylists came in one after another to check her dress and makeup.

Jessica had probably slept for over half an hour, inadvertently leaning her head against the side of the sofa. After the stylists adjusted her hair at the back, they helped her up.

One of the stylists touched her hand and curiously asked, "Why are your hands so cold? Are you feeling very cold?"

The warm air from the dressing room's air conditioning was on, the temperature was moderate, and it shouldn't have been cold at all.

Jessica withdrew her hand, saying, "It's nothing."

As she walked out of the dressing room, Jessica messaged Cynthia on WhatsApp.

Jessica: [Where is the safest place to live? Give me some advice!]

Cynthia replied: [Where you currently live is very safe.]

Jessica: [Blue Bay Apartments?]

Cynthia: [Yes.]

Jessica fell silent.

It seemed she would have to hold tight to Daddy Warbucks' thighs and stay under someone else's roof for a while!
