Chapter 499 Neither Getting Out of the Car Nor Rolling Down the Window

The Mercedes SUV that was just in the parking lot made a turn at the exit and was about to drive onto the main road.

Jessica followed, suddenly braking hard. The tires screeched against the ground, and the car jolted violently.

The front of her car collided with the black SUV in front that hadn't yet moved onto the main road.

The driver of the SUV immediately opened the door and walked over quickly. He first inspected the rear of his car where it had been hit, then looked at Jessica's car with a displeased expression. He walked to her window, and knocked on the window, saying irritably, "How can you crash at such a slow speed in a parking lot? Did you mistake the gas pedal for the brake?"

Jessica sat in her car, ignoring the driver's ranting outside. She just looked coldly at the car in front of her.

Then the back door opened, and Keegan casually adjusted his tie inside his coat. It was probably too late, and there was a hint of fatigue in his eyes. He had wanted to get home quickly to rest, but his car hadn't even left the parking lot before being rear-ended.

"Can't you hear me? You're the one who rear-ended me. Do I need to explain traffic laws to you?" The driver continued knocking on Jessica's window impatiently.

"What's going on?" Keegan walked over.

The driver turned and respectfully said, "Mr. Chloe, this driver won't get out of the car or even roll down the window, and hasn't even apologized. I think he need a lesson!"

Keegan looked over at the window. At that moment, Jessica slowly rolled down.

When he saw who was inside, Keegan's calm expression immediately showed surprise. "Jessica?"

Both cars were damaged. Fortunately, the speed was low, so it was just minor bumps.

And since it was Jessica, Keegan had no intention of making a fuss. But Jessica insisted on covering the repair costs and called the VIP service of an auto repair shop to tow the cars to the repair center.

Keegan asked, "Have you had dinner? Want to grab a late-night snack?"

Jessica didn't respond and followed the repair service personnel. Keegan could have called for another car, but he decided to go to the repair shop with her.

In the early hours past midnight, the two of them sat in the lounge of an auto repair shop.

"Is the car from your company or your own?" Jessica picked up a disposable cup brought by the staff, filled it with hot water, and blew on it lightly as she asked casually.

It was a redundant question. Whether it was the company's or his personal car, it was still his.

"The company has a branch here, and we have designated cars for business and other activities." Keegan didn't find Jessica's question boring. In fact, he was in a good mood because she was finally willing to talk to him more. He had looked tired when he got out of the car, but now he seemed quite energetic in front of Jessica.

"Mr. Chloe, your company has been doing great these past two years. I heard three of your movies grossed over $200 million each." Jessica took a sip of water, and sat on the single sofa next to Keegan, placing the cup on the coffee table.

"You understand movie investments well. Even if Four Seas Entertainment is responsible for production, there are many people waiting to share the profits, so we don't make much." Keegan looked at her. "But you, you've been doing really well these past two years. You just wrapped up 'Shadow Kill' with Sam Smith, right?"

"Yes."

Keegan chuckled. "Sam Smith's movie is aiming for critical acclaim and awards. Although our company didn't invest in or produce this film, there are always rumors. I've read the script; it's well-structured, grand, and touching. The Easter eggs are also very moving. With your and Kevin's acting, it deserves good results."

Jessica smiled and took out her phone, glancing at it. Then she looked up at him. "Are you close with Aaron?"

After exchanging pleasantries, it was time to get to the point. Jessica and Keegan were both smart people; there was no need to waste time on unnecessary talk.

Keegan wasn't surprised by her question. He looked at her for a moment and then said, "Jessica, Washington isn't suitable for you. Since you're married to Gabriel, go back to Xyleria with him and live your life."

Jessica looked at him calmly for a full half-minute, then leaned back into the sofa, her voice steady. "I used to think this place wasn't for me and wanted to escape back to my comfort zone. By the way, how much do you know about my situation?"

Keegan looked at her. Jessica was like this; she could have called him or stopped him directly to invite him for a chat.

But she refused to have too much private contact with him, preferring to use this car accident as a pretext to talk.

"I don't know much. My interactions with Aaron are purely business. I came to Washington for an event and happened to meet Aaron at the hotel. We had a few drinks and chatted briefly before I left and then ran into you in the parking lot."

Hearing Keegan's words, Jessica remained still, just staring at him.

Keegan didn't avoid her gaze. He touched the disposable cup in front of her and gently pushed it forward. "It's very cold in Washington tonight. The water isn't too hot anymore. Drink some to warm up."

He didn't pause. After retracting his hand, he continued, "You know I won't harm you. I understand Aaron; he has more cards up his sleeve than you think, especially with the complex business and political ties of Manhattan Construction. Even though you're involved, with Gabriel around, Aaron can't do much to you. Go back to Xyleria. Once things are settled, he won't bother you anymore."

"He has already dragged me into this mess," Jessica said coldly. "Keegan, despite knowing you for so long, I don't really understand you. For instance, did the Chloe family have any dealings with Eugene in Xyleria over twenty years ago?"

Keegan looked at her.

Jessica said calmly, "I've found that someone transferred money to my mom's account through several channels back then. One of the names seemed familiar, but I couldn't place it. Seeing you today, I suddenly remembered. It was your father's name. What did your dad and Uncle Aaron do to my mom back then?"
