Chapter 693 Sweet Extra - Couple Variety Show 178
Debra was momentarily stunned. "How come I didn't know about this? No wonder it looked familiar."
Maurice sighed. "You were too uncomfortable to sleep in the cave before we left the island, so you didn't really notice our luggage. Then, on the boat, you were seasick and slept through most of the trip. We only opened the suitcase when we got here."
Debra looked at Maurice, still puzzled. "No wonder."
The other guests exchanged uneasy glances, looking between Debra and Maurice.
Maurice quickly waved his hand. "I'm just telling the truth. The camera caught what was in our suitcase, so I need to clear up any suspicion. The cutting board and ceramic knife were brought from Mantanani Island. They're definitely not from the hotel's kitchen. We hadn't even been in the kitchen before the incident."
"But Maurice, it's kinda weird that you didn't bring other kitchen tools and specifically packed a knife," Brent commented, rubbing his chin.
Maurice playfully punched Brent on the shoulder. "We did it so you guys could eat properly even in tough conditions. We have other kitchen tools in the bag; I just didn't mention them."
Melissa chimed in. "We checked our room too, and there's nothing unusual."
"Just because there's nothing unusual in the room doesn't mean there isn't something elsewhere," Marshall said, nodding towards the projector.
Everyone turned to look. The screen showed clear footage from the hotel's lobby security camera.
Just before 4 AM, Brent, wearing a white bathrobe, sneaked downstairs. The camera didn't capture him clearly due to his speed, but it was enough to see his face. He ran out of the hotel and returned about ten minutes later, holding a small white bag. He then rushed into the elevator.
Brent's mouth twitched. "I was just..."
"Before 4 AM, the sun hadn't even come up yet, right?" Clayton said, chewing on a toothpick and looking at Brent.
Brent glared at him. "Shut up. You're the most suspicious one here. Don't try to divert everyone's attention. I woke up and couldn't sleep, so I went for a morning run."
"A morning run before sunrise? In a bathrobe and hotel slippers?" Clayton raised an eyebrow.
Brent was speechless.
Melissa suddenly fell silent, giving Brent a look of disappointment.
"What's going on, Brent?" Kevin asked.
Brent ran his hand through his short hair and sighed deeply. "I just went out to buy a pack of cigarettes."
Everyone instantly reacted with a mix of surprise and disapproval.
Marshall raised his eyebrows at Brent.
Brent rolled his eyes at the hotel's chandelier. "Yes, I promised Marshall I'd try not to smoke during the show, and I told Melissa I'd try to quit. But I couldn't hold out. I ran out of cigarettes last night and couldn't sleep well. So, early this morning, I went to the 24-hour convenience store across the street to buy a pack."
"You didn't just buy a pack; you bought a whole carton?" Clayton stepped closer and nudged Brent, subtly signaling for two packs.
Clearly, he was trying to get Brent to share.
Brent gritted his teeth, ready to punch Clayton, but Marshall's throat-clearing brought him back to reality. He quickly stood up straight and confessed. "Really, I just bought cigarettes!"
