Chapter 136 Mr. Harriman, Miss Jessica Arrived
On Sunday, it happened to be the first day Jessica was filming an advertisement in Xyleria's downtown area, not far from the Harriman Group.
The filming team and stylists were indeed top-notch internationally, both in speed and professionalism. Coupled with Tilans' sincere cooperation, everything went smoothly.
Progress was swift. Jessica came in the morning for makeup and styling, shot posters, and in the afternoon, went straight into preparing for the commercial shoot.
The advertisement's theme was the ocean and freedom. The director of the photography team had Jessica hold her breath underwater, requiring her to move gracefully underwater in a moment. While underwater effects could be achieved through post-production, Tilans insisted on real underwater scenes in their overseas commercials, just like their products—everything was excellent and authentic, without any falsehood.
The whole afternoon, Jessica practiced holding her breath in the water. By3.00p.m, the filming team continued to prepare the shooting equipment, scheduled her for tomorrow's shoot, and allowed her to rest for the day, leaving other matters to Mackenzie to come to discuss.
Jessica quickly freshened up in the hotel room they provided, changed clothes, and blow-dried her hair. Realizing it was almost four o'clock, she hurried to the Harriman Group.
Fortunately, it wasn't far, and she could walk there in less than ten minutes.
Arriving at the front square of the Harriman Group building, it was her first time being so close. Previously, she had only passed by in a car, driving on the front road.
Walking up to the Harriman Group building, Jessica looked up at the office building in front of her. She knew it wouldn't be easy to see Gabriel without an appointment.
But since she had promised him that day to come find him at four in the afternoon, even though she didn't know what was going to happen, she had already said those words of gratitude and indebtedness. She couldn't possibly come up with useless excuses when it was time for her to repay the favor.
At that moment, Gabriel was in his office, instructing Landon to deliver a paper document to his office.
Landon was about to get up when he caught sight of Jessica's figure on the high-definition monitor in the office building's square and quietly said, "Mr. Harriman, Miss Jessica is coming."
Gabriel set down the project proposal in his hand, turned to look at the monitor in the executive office, asked Landon to bring the document in, and dialed another internal line, instructing Wayne to go downstairs to greet Jessica.
Landon was more familiar with Jessica, but he was currently involved in an urgent project that required his personal attention.
Wayne received the order and headed downstairs straight to the company's front square.
In the high-definition surveillance footage, Jessica was wearing a white sports suit, perhaps to avoid being recognized in the bustling area. She also wore a matching baseball cap with the brim pressed low, making it hard to see her face clearly. She stood there, holding her phone, and sent a message to Gabriel.
Jessica: [Three fifty-six, I'm not late.]
At the same time, she shared her location to prove that she was indeed at his company.
At that moment, Landon entered the room, saw Mr. Harriman's gaze fixed on the monitor, walked over to place the document down, and also glanced at the screen. "Jessica seems to be lightly dressed. It's quite cold today. She had better not catch a cold."
Xyleria had suddenly cooled down today, with temperatures only around43 degrees Fahrenheit . Many people had put on coats, some even wearing down jackets. Jessica, on the other hand, was only in a sports suit. She stood in the center of the square, occasionally lifting her phone as if she wanted to take a photo to show her current location. However, after some thought, she refrained and stood there quietly waiting.
Shortly after Landon's comment, Wayne appeared in the footage from the square.
Initially unaware of whom Mr. Harriman had sent him to greet, Wayne hurried over to Jessica and asked, "Excuse me, are you Miss Jessica?"
Jessica glanced at him and replied, "Yes, I'm Jessica. Hello!"
Wayne respectfully nodded to her, gestured towards the headquarters building, and said, "Mr. Harriman is busy, so he sent me down to escort you. Please come with me, Miss Jessica."
Jessica didn't recognize Wayne in front of her, although Wayne was well-dressed and clearly came from the Harriman Group. In her moment of hesitation, Gabriel messaged her back.
Gabriel: [Come up.]
Only then did Jessica follow Wayne inside.
Wayne wasn't sure who Miss Jessica was, but being treated with such importance by Mr. Harriman and having someone sent down to escort her was a level of treatment even regular partners who frequently visited didn't receive. He carefully accompanied Jessica, leading the way with great respect.
He directly took Jessica to the dedicated elevator for the executive office. Jessica glanced at the lit sixty-eighth floor and instinctively asked, "Does this elevator only go up to the sixty-eighth floor?"
"Yes, this is executive elevator for the CEO’s office. Unless there are special circumstances, it won't stop at other floors."
Because it didn't stop at other floors along the way, despite the height of the building, they arrived quickly.
"Miss Jessica, we've arrived."
The elevator had reached the top floor, and as Jessica stepped out, she felt a strange sense of lightness in her legs. Looking through the layers of tempered glass windows on the top floor, she felt like she could overlook the entire Xyleria in an instant. The overly high vantage point gave her a surreal feeling.
Especially as Wayne led her towards the executive office, the closer she got to where Gabriel truly existed, or rather, the closer she got to Gabriel, the person in power at the Harriman Group, the more intense this unreal feeling became.
What did Gabriel want her to come for at this time?
Walking into the executive office, it wasn't until Jessica reached Gabriel's desk that she saw Landon about to leave.
As Landon passed by her, he politely nodded, busy with matters in the company. Being a reserved person, he didn't show any other expressions and simply walked away.
Wayne also successfully completed his task and returned to the executive assistant's office.
In the executive office, there was only Jessica, who had just arrived , and Gabriel, who was currently on a video call with a partner.
Seeing him busy, Jessica didn't interrupt.
She watched Gabriel sitting in the spacious office, his gaze not turning towards her, still engaged in conversation with the person on the video call. However, for some reason, hearing his calm and clear voice and watching him converse calmly with his partner, and his stern and superior demeanor, she felt like every move and gesture of his could be framed as a painting.
Gabriel at work was a different person than she knew, a difference she couldn't quite place. He exuded an aloof superiority, but above all, a serene focus. In the vast office, he seemed like the sole existence that illuminated everything around him wherever he went, as if he absorbed all the light in the room.
