Chapter 214 Gabriel Was Silent for Only Two Seconds, as If...
Jessica opened her bag, pretending to put the script back inside while continuing to stare at the rearview mirror, looking at that refined face that somewhat resembled the nightmarish figure in her memory.
"What's your last name?" she asked.
Milton didn't answer immediately. Instead, he suddenly accelerated,, then slowly lifted his head to meet her gaze in the rearview mirror, gradually revealing a cold and eerie smile. "My last name is Rogers."
Rogers.
Twenty-two years old.
Stanley's son should indeed be about that age!
Jessica felt a sharp sense of alertness inside. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that the car was about to reach the West Third Ring Road. She tightly gripped a certain bottle inside her bag and said calmly, "Rogers? We had a new actress in our last crew with the last name Rogers, but she was a girl and had a pretty good personality."
Upon seeing no reaction from her, Milton remained silent.
Jessica suddenly smiled and took out a bottle of mineral water from her bag, handing it to him. "Your voice sounds a bit hoarse. Haven't had water for a while? Here, take this bottle of mineral water. I got it from my hotel room; they provide two bottles every day, free of charge."
She smiled and winked as she spoke.
Initially hesitant to accept, the driver glanced unconsciously towards his shoulder where the bottle rested. Seeing it was indeed just water, he silently continued steering with one hand while lifting his other hand to take the bottle from his shoulder.
Upon seeing both his hands occupied and noticing him tilt his head slightly,, Jessica suddenly reached into her bag at the fastest speed in her life, pulling out pepper spray. With one hand, she removed his glasses, and with the other, she fiercely sprayed several times directly into his eyes.
Milton's eyes were instantly irritated and couldn't open. He angrily threw the bottle of mineral water aside and yanked off his baseball cap, but still couldn't open his eyes.
The car began to swerve and bump on the road as the steering wheel lost control. Jessica used a move she had learned while practicing fight scenes, bending her arm and striking his neck hard with her elbow. As he cried out in pain, covering his eyes with one hand and his neck with the other, she tried to open the car door, only to find the central lock mysteriously engaged, trapping her inside
"Damn it! Jessica! You bitch!"
As he lunged at her, Jessica raised the pepper spray and sprayed it into his mouth a few more times. As he started coughing violently, she struck him hard with her elbow at his temple and throat. Then, she forcefully pulled him into the back seat. Launching herself forward, she lunged for the driver's seat and grabbed the steering wheel.
The second-hand Passat, which had been swerving wildly on the road, crashed into the roadside guardrail just as she grabbed the steering wheel, producing a loud crash and a screeching sound. Jessica gripped the steering wheel, trying to adjust the car's direction, while frantically searching for the central lock on the car door, realizing the car had been modified!
Suddenly, Milton behind her lunged again, slamming her head into the car door's glass. The car shook violently once more. Dizzy and disoriented, Jessica pushed him back, shouting angrily, "Milton! I know it's you! Your dad is about to be released from prison. Do you want to go in and take his place?"
Milton's eyes were bloodshot and couldn't open. He cursed and, guided by her voice, grabbed Jessica's hair, his fingers scratching her face. Jessica felt a sharp pain in her scalp and her cheek almost got scratched open. The pain made her more alert. With one hand controlling the steering wheel, she steered the car from the loop back towards the city.
He had driven the car in this direction all the way, unaware of the dangers that awaited her ahead. She needed to find a way to a busier area to ensure her safety.
"Bitch, you ruined my dad's reputation, drove my mom to suicide, and destroyed the Rogers family. I've been waiting for you for a long time. You won't make it out alive!"
Milton grabbed Jessica's head and slammed it against the hard protrusion on the car door. Jessica instantly felt warm liquid flowing down from her forehead, blurring her vision with a bright red hue. She gritted her teeth, controlling the car's direction, unable to free a hand to push him away.
Finally, her hand found the modified central lock on the car door. She pressed it, then grabbed Milton's wrist with all her strength. Fortunately, Milton wasn't a big, strong man but a slender young guy. Jessica's instinctive grip in her pain made him lose his strength momentarily. Jessica took the opportunity to push him back, opened the back door, and kicked him out of the car. Without bothering to close the door, fearing he might climb back in, she floored the accelerator, speeding through the streets of Sunshine Bay City like a madwoman.
Suddenly, the sound of police sirens filled the air. Passing vehicles made way, and children and the elderly were frightened, hiding by the roadside, unclear of the situation.
Jessica gripped the steering wheel tightly, blood gushing from her head, the smell of blood filling her nostrils. Her mind was filled with the disgusting, hypocritical face of Stanley. The nightmare from five years ago seemed to be magnified, screaming wildly in her sensitive nerves, growing more and more intense.
The darkest corner of her inner fears was about to collapse, the scars about to peel away, just like the bloody liquid before her eyes.
The car sped up, seemingly heading towards the river district in the center of Sunshine Bay City at a suicidal speed, with no intention of stopping.
Traffic police around quickly mounted their bikes and gave chase, but they could see the car was about to plunge into the river.
Suddenly, a pleasant ringtone came from the phone in her bag.
At the sound, Jessica seemed to snap out of her overwhelming panic and despair. She slammed on the brakes, her body crashing hard against the back of the driver's seat due to the sudden stop.
She looked at the distant river, her hands trembling as she fumbled to take the phone out of her bag. Without even looking at the name, she answered it.
Gabriel's calm and steady voice came through the phone, "Where are you?"
-
For two days, Jessica had been avoiding Gabriel.
Even though Jessica had rare days off, she stayed in the hotel room without going out. Even when she did go out, it was with Mackenzie and Zoey, avoiding Gabriel.
Despite living right across from each other, they hadn't seen each other for two days.
This sudden avoidance was even noticed by Wayne.
Today, Jessica's crew resumed work. She stayed in her room all day and only came out in the afternoon, perfectly avoiding Gabriel.
Wayne, feeling guilty and anxious, asked, "Was it the food I bought didn't suit Ms. Jenner's taste?"
Gabriel replied mercilessly, "Then you might as well take a knife and end it."
Wayne was on the verge of tears, planning to ask around for the best restaurant in Sunshine Bay City to make it up to Jessica.
At that moment, Gabriel took out his phone and called Jessica.
The phone rang for a long time before it was finally answered.
Before Gabriel could speak, he suddenly heard the faint sound of police sirens and Jessica's heavy, rapid breathing.
"Where are you?" he asked without hesitation, his expression changing.
Jessica's emotions were unstable, nearly breaking down. After a few seconds, she hoarsely said, "Gabriel, I'm not as perfect as you think. My world is a mess, with no place for you. If you remember who you are, stay away from me, as far as possible."
Gabriel was silent for only two seconds, as if he hadn't heard what she said, and asked again in a deep voice, "Where are you?"
The chaotic sounds around Jessica became clearer. She was obviously in a state of emotional collapse; her breathing labored; her voice choked as if she were crying, and then the call abruptly ended, leaving everything in silence.
Gabriel put down his phone, his expression unchanged, and said, "Contact the Sunshine Bay City police immediately. Track Jessica's phone GPS location and all her recent stops."
Jessica hadn't been blocked by the police cars because she saw Milton had somehow gotten another car. His eyes had been washed, and although they were still bloodshot, he could see the road. He had already driven the car to chase after her. She didn't know if it was her oversensitivity at that moment, but when she saw the car approaching, it reminded her of the night five years ago when her father Stanley lunged at her. She felt a chill run through her body and abruptly steered the car onto the other side of the road.
The rear door of the car was still open , and as she drove past obstacles, the loud collisions seemed to be drowned out by the sound of the accelerating engine. She couldn't hear anything, even as she pressed the accelerator to the floor, even as the modified second-hand car struggled with its faulty engine, producing louder and more muffled noises.
She didn't know how long she had been driving, but she seemed to hear many police cars nearby, with someone using a loudspeaker to warn her to stop immediately.
Milton's car was a taxi he had intercepted halfway, and he wasn't used to driving it. Seeing Jessica drive into a narrow alley, he knew her car wouldn't make it all the way through. He followed her, then abandoned the car and ran in to find her.
Jessica had indeed gotten out of the car after entering the alley, but she stumbled deeper into it, chased by someone behind her.
Upon hearing footsteps behind her, she stumbled into an even narrower alley at a corner.
Milton was about to chase her when he suddenly heard the sound of motorcycles at the alley entrance. Traffic police had rushed in.
Milton's face turned pale. He saw Jessica in the narrow alley, their eyes meeting for a moment. Without a word, he tried to chase her.
But before he could, four or five traffic police motorcycles blocked his way.
Milton turned and ran towards the other exit, only to be blocked by a black Bentley.
He was out of breath, his throat burning as if filled with sand. He saw the door of the black Bentley open, and a tall, dignified man in a black trench coat stepped out.
The man's dark eyes fell on him, like a cold nail piercing through his body.
Milton turned back, realizing the alley had been turned into a dead end by the traffic police and the man in the black trench coat!
