Chapter 566 Sweet Extra of Couple Variety Show 51
Gabriel seemed completely unaware.
Rachel glanced over at him again, noticing that Gabriel and Debra had already finished their task. She quickly called out, "Hey, Mr. Harriman, can you give me a hand with this..."
Before Rachel could finish, Lester returned, giving her a puzzled look. "Which bucket's about to overflow?"
Rachel's expression tightened. She glanced at Lester, then pointed to the nearby white rubber bucket without much emotion.
Lester walked over and picked up the entire bucket. As Rachel moved to help him, he gave her a meaningful look and a low, cold chuckle that no one else could see. He then glanced over in Gabriel's direction.
Rachel caught Lester's look and immediately let out a frustrated sigh, lowering her voice. "What's with that look?"
Lester sneered. "You don't know what my look means? Aren't you clear about your own intentions?"
"Stop talking nonsense. I saw you were with Amy, so I called whoever was closest," Rachel said, avoiding his gaze and turning to hang an empty bucket on the tree.
Lester chuckled again, his expression barely changing. As he helped Rachel hang the bucket, he said in a low, indifferent voice, "You should stop dreaming. Mr. Harriman and Jessica's kid is almost school-aged. Even if he were single, you wouldn't stand a chance."
Rachel's face turned cold, as if she was too tired to argue. "I don't have time to talk to a lunatic like you."
She turned away, taking a small knife to find other rubber trees to tap, putting as much distance between herself and Lester as possible.
The afternoon sun was scorching, even more intense than in the morning.
Debra and Maurice, an elderly couple, were working with great enthusiasm, their age not affecting their efficiency. But eventually, the heat took its toll. Debra started feeling dizzy, sweat pouring down her face. She leaned against a tree, trying to gather herself, but couldn't shake the feeling.
Jessica noticed and quickly called Melissa, who was closest, to help her support Debra to a small bench set up for the staff.
"Debra, you mustn't get heatstroke. It's really uncomfortable. Take a break, and I'll handle the rest," Jessica said, helping Debra sit down. She and Melissa fetched a bottle of ice-cold water from the producer, giving Debra a few sips and soaking a towel to place on her head and neck.
"It's nothing. I'm just getting old. Can't push myself like I used to," Debra waved them off with a smile. "Go on, don't let me hold you up. I'll rest a bit and join you if I feel better."
Melissa was about to insist that Debra rest and not overexert herself, but she hesitated, not wanting to imply that Debra was too old to be useful.
While Melissa was searching for the right words, Jessica spoke up. "Take your time. If you feel better, just call me. I'll take your bucket to Gabriel and have him help out."
"Thank you, Jessica," Debra smiled at her.
Jessica shook her head with a smile, then exchanged a look with Melissa. The two of them took Debra's bucket and returned to the rubber trees.
