Chapter 134 I Want to Correct a Misunderstanding
"OK. Action!"
"Right, Jessica's tears in the last scene suddenly overflowing from the corner of her eye is a perfect ending."
Director Joseph praised while watching the playback, and when Jessica walked over to watch the playback together, he asked her, "Was this tear scene something you designed while reading the script?"
Jessica also saw that particular scene in the playback. "It wasn't really designed; it was empathy with the character; after playing Katrina for over two months, it's inevitable to feel what she feels, think what she thinks."
Joseph was very pleased. "Young actresses like you in your twenties, mostly popular stars, if all of them could immerse themselves in studying their roles like this, where would there be constant criticism of their acting skills? Jessica, no matter how high you rise in the future, remember what you initially stood for; don't let this industry assimilate you."
Joseph's gaze was somewhat meaningful, but Jessica could easily perceive his affirmation of her future.
Jessica admitted her dedication to this role and firmly believed that the effect when it airs would be very good. Whether she would gain fans or attention, she hadn't thought much about these things. Whether she would stay where she is or rise to a higher level, she hadn't really considered either.
Zoey suddenly gestured towards her and raised her phone. "Mackenzie's calling."
After chatting with Director Joseph for a few moments, Jessica turned around to answer the phone.
Mackenzie called to inform her that Mr. Morris from KC had personally come to apologize today. The film production company for which Deborah had signed a contract was known as Skyline Film Studio. The executives there also intended to discuss with them, wanting to apologize on behalf of Deborah.
The endorsement deal for Tilans that Jessica suddenly took on caused a huge stir in the industry within a few hours. After all, this wasn't just about landing a top-tier drama. It was stepping into the realm of capital that many stars in the industry valued the most.
The entire studio became tense because of this official announcement, something Mackenzie had anticipated. Given the attention Tilans received domestically, having Jessica as the face of such a big brand was bound to attract discussions from all sides. She had already instructed her staff not to be easily swayed by others.
Unexpectedly, the first response they received was an apology and reconciliation.
KC's response was expected, given their deception. However, the personal apology from Skyline Film Studio's executives was a surprising twist. When Deborah first entered the industry, she intended to develop a goddess image. However, due to her participation in a popular variety show that garnered attention, coupled with the occasional naive appearance that made the audience protective of her, her agency added some adorable elements to her public image.
Deborah's agent was particularly skilled in marketing and hype. From online publicity to some offline scandals, coupled with the support of Skyline Film Studio, her career progressed smoothly.
This pampered female star often liked to tease others for no reason, something that was quite common.
However, once she started making random comments on Twitter, her public image suffered, and the company faced backlash as well.
Just an hour ago, Mr. Rivera from Skyline Film Studio called Deborah's agent into his office and slammed a stack of documents on the table.
"Is Deborah out of her mind? Just when her reputation is on the rise, instead of focusing on her work, she's messing around on Twitter? You couldn't control her Twitter? Why did she offend someone with such a strong background?"
The agent looked frightened. "I haven't been on set recently, so I don't know what conflict arose between her and Jessica. Last time, Jessica's hot searches had nothing to do with us, and Jessica has been quiet on Twitter. No one expected her background to be so strong, but she is so low-key."
"You keep an eye on hot searches every day and should know that the second female lead has a powerful background. Who did Deborah think she could afford to provoke?"
Mr. Rivera was furious, so he grabbed another stack of documents and threw them away.
"Whether it's about intelligence or emotional intelligence, she's lacking. She's causing trouble everywhere, making a mess. Tell her to get lost immediately!"
The agent was quite shocked and had no idea where Mr. Rivera had heard about Jessica's matters, but it was clear that the people behind Jessica were not to be trifled with. "Mr. Rivera, please calm down. I'll immediately get the PR team..."
"No need for a PR team. Ask yourself, who would dare to take on Deborah's PR now!"
"What do you mean..."
"I mean—take Deborah and get out!"
Furthermore, Skyline Film Studio personally called Jessica's studio to apologize, but it seemed to have no effect.
Later that afternoon, Deborah, who had finished filming and left the set, suddenly called Jessica.
Deborah was at her wits' end after being scolded by her agent and Mr. Rivera, reluctantly, but for the sake of her future, she reluctantly called Jessica.
To Deborah's surprise, it wasn't Jessica who answered the call but Zoey.
"Is this Ms. Whitney, right? Jessica is still filming on the set over there. Her scenes are not as many as yours. Isn't this the second female lead's scene about to wrap up soon? She has to do some additional shots and rush through a few big scenes in the next few days, so she's been busy all day and hasn't had time to answer the phone."
Jessica wasn't too busy to answer the phone; she simply didn't want to interact with Deborah. To put it nicely, she was ignoring her; more bluntly, she was avoiding someone she deemed intellectually questionable. However, Deborah hadreceived some warning from her company, persistently making Zoey hand the phone to Jessica.
After waiting for Jessica to finish a scene to take the call, Deborah quickly said, "Jessica, I was ignorant before. I sincerely apologize to you; please forgive me, and don't hold it against me."
Jessica casually replied, "Ms. Whitney, there's no need for you to apologize to me. I haven't suffered any losses or harm, and I'm not really sure what mistake you've made. If you've truly made a mistake, then you should bear the consequences yourself. There's no need to come to me with these apologies."
Deborah still insisted on apologizing. She even hoped that Jessica would personally intervene, asking Jessica to post on Twitter to prove that their relationship on set was good. She hoped that Jessica would help her salvage the reputation that had been damaged by that questionable Twitter post.
During her time on set, Jessica remained mostly silent in the face of exclusion or public controversies, letting things slide. Many people thought she was easy to get along with.
Jessica calmly said, "Ms. Whitney, I want to correct a misunderstanding."
"What misunderstanding?"
"My temper isn't as good as you think it is."
