Chapter 297 Jessica Want To Call Him
In H City.
After Jessica and Donna wrapped up filming two scenes where they played close sisters, the moment the director yelled "cut," Jessica's sisterly smile disappeared. Both of them went stone-faced. Jessica turned, grabbed the coat Zoey handed her, and headed for the trailer.
Everyone on set knew the two didn't get along, but Cherry, the new girl, was clueless about their history.
Cherry thought Jessica was still mad because Donna had trashed her on Facebook a few months back. She kept telling Jessica not to hold a grudge and risk making enemies, especially since Donna had Carl backing her.
Cherry warned that crossing someone like Carl could get Jessica blacklisted and mess up her career.
Jessica paid no heed to Cherry's advice. She didn't have the patience to explain or educate this so-called agent. Zoey, who acted all obedient around Cherry, was just as stubborn and kept quiet too.
Cherry could tell that nobody around Jessica, from top to bottom, was willing to listen to her. But she wasn't worried; she was Jessica's agent now and had plenty of time to sort things out.
The next day in H City, Cherry brought Jessica a document.
"This is the endorsement contract for those cleaning products from Clear Treasure Company. You checked out the products a few days ago," Cherry said. "Take another look, and once you sign it, we can move forward with the endorsement."
When Mackenzie was around, Jessica barely glanced at contracts if she was busy. Mackenzie always fought to get her the best deal, and Jessica trusted her completely.
But now, things were different.
Jessica picked up the contract and skimmed through it. Everything seemed fine. "Alright, let me finish filming the next two scenes, and I'll review it again and sign it this afternoon."
"Okay, but there's something else," Cherry said, walking over with her arms crossed. Up close, she could see that even with makeup, Jessica's skin was naturally clear and beautiful. After a moment of envy and jealousy, Cherry continued, "Our higher-upsand Clear Treasure Company‘s chairman are old friends. They're giving you this endorsement because of Mr. Chen. But there's a catch."
Jessica looked at her, waiting.
"Recently, our company's contract terms have been extended to ten years. You can use your current popularity to renew your five-year agent contract."
Cherry paused, then added, "This is Clear Treasure Company's condition. If you renew your contract with Star Entertainment, the endorsement will be extended from one year to three years."
Jessica glanced at the contract on the table, her face unreadable.
"Clear Treasure Company is the leading domestic brand for affordable products, consistently ranking first in sales," Cherry reminded her. "Every year, their endorsers are the hottest celebrities. You were just a supporting actress in Charles II, yet they broke the rules to make you an endorser and even plan to sign you for three years. Don't miss this chance."
Jessica lowered her eyes and gave a faint smile. "I'll think about it, but I need to discuss it with my boyfriend."
Cherry stared at her, surprised. "Who's your boyfriend? Does he get to make decisions for you?"
Jessica looked at her coldly. "Ms. Wallace, you're asking me to sign a ten-year contract. Can't I at least discuss it with my boyfriend?"
Cherry rolled her eyes. "Fine, but hurry up. The partneris waiting for your response. If you don't sign, there are plenty of top-tier celebrities ready to take your place."
That was for sure.
After all, the other two artists under Cherry were also waiting eagerly.
Jessica didn't want to continue the conversation. After Cherry left, she sat in the car and looked down at her phone.
It was a voice message from Danielle, sent via her kids' smartwatch.
"Mommy, yesterday Landon picked me up from kindergarten!"
"Landon took me to see Uncle Spencer. Uncle Spencer's office is so big, and I even fell asleep there. Later, Uncle Spencer took me to a kids' restaurant, and I had chocolate cake and lots of yummy food. But Uncle Spencer said the condition for eating chocolate cake is that I can't have any more chocolate for the next month. He also said I eat too many sweets and need to get my teeth checked regularly!"
"Mommy, is getting my teeth checked like Peppa and George, where you just swish and spit out the mouthwash?"
"I slept at Uncle Spencer's house last night! After he put me to sleep, he didn't sleep in the bedroom. When I woke up to go to the bathroom, I saw Uncle Spencer in the study. Mommy, when can you come back? I really want the three of us to live together!"
Danielle also sent a photo using the watch's camera.
"Mommy, look, the teacher asked us to draw a picture of our dad. I drew Uncle Spencer, and Uncle Spencer even signed where the dad's signature is needed! Is this Uncle Spencer's name?"
Jessica enlarged the photo and saw that it was an abstract painting in a very Danielle style, but it was clear what she had drawn.
Her eyes moved down to the bottom right corner, where she saw the strong, beautiful handwriting: Gabriel.
Jessica stared at the signature for a long time without saying anything.
Since Danielle was born, every time a parent's signature was needed, the father's column was always left blank. After Danielle started kindergarten, other kids had both their parents' names signed, but Jessica didn't want to make up a nonexistent person, so it was always blank. Danielle knew she didn't have a dad and never asked Jessica to fill in the father's name.
But she had specifically taken this photo to show Jessica.
From Danielle's tone, it was clear she was so happy she wanted to stick this picture by her bed and look at her dad's name every day.
Jessica couldn't help but smile as she looked at the time. There was still a while before the next scene. She picked up the phone and dialed Gabriel's number.
It was work hours, and she didn't know if Gabriel was busy or available to take the call.
But at that moment, Jessica had an overwhelming urge to call him.
