Chapter 273 Danielle Sneezed Loudly in the Kindergarten

The next morning, Jessica was getting ready to drive to the set.

Although it had snowed yesterday, the snow on the ground had disappeared overnight, but the weather was much colder than the previous days.

When she went out today, she specifically wore a down jacket. She had just recovered from the flu and was afraid of catching a cold again.

Her car wasn't parked in the underground garage. A few days ago, Mackenzie's car was sent for maintenance, and after she drove her car for a few days, it was parked in the lot outside Blue Bay Apartments when it was returned.

As Jessica walked over, she suddenly saw Cynthia, dressed in a black leather jacket and pants, standing by her car as if waiting for her.

"When did you get here? Why didn't you call?"

Jessica asked while glancing around. She didn't see any police cars nearby and was surprised to see Cynthia's outfit.

"Isn't today a workday? Don't you need to go to the station?"

"Last month, I solved two major cases in the bureau. The boss asked what reward I wanted, and since I didn't have anything in mind, I asked for a week's vacation," Cynthia said in a calm tone as if it was the most normal thing for a workaholic in the criminal investigation department to take a sudden leave.

How was this normal? Cynthia taking a leave was practically unheard of!

"So, what are you doing on your days off?"

Cynthia stood by the driver's side door, showing no intention of moving. Jessica understood her intention and tossed her the car keys without asking further.

"I'll be your bodyguard and driver for a few days. Just remember to cover my meals," she said, opening the car door.

With her height and Martin boots, Cynthia looked tall and slim, standing by the car door in all black, looking as cool as ever. Just like in the years they spent together in the M Country, Cynthia was always so quiet, cold, and efficient.

But the coldness was just a facade. Only Jessica knew what kind of person Cynthia really was.

A female elite in the criminal investigation world, the aloof and unapproachable FBI goddess, who once fell apart because she fell in love with a man ten years her senior.

That man was the globally renowned criminal investigation professor Jimmy, who had a vast police network worldwide.

At the age of eleven, Cynthia miraculously survived a brutal revenge bombing in the M Country. She was just a little girl, yet she managed to carry her parents' disfigured bodies out of the raging fire and was rescued and adopted by Jimmy, who rushed to the scene.

Jimmy was her adoptive father in name, her life mentor, and the faith of her life for over a decade.

He could teach her everything, give her everything, but he would never allow her to love him.

Didn't Cynthia have moments of weakness?

She did.

When Jimmy rejected her feelings, repelled her love, and harshly scolded her, he finally couldn't bear it and kicked her out of the home they had shared for ten years.

That night, Linwood City experienced a rare heavy snowstorm. Cynthia waited outside the house all night but never saw Jimmy come out.

She suffered frostbite, fell into a coma, and was hospitalized for three days. When she woke up, she found out that Jimmy had transferred the house to her name and left the M Country for a case, not returning for six months.

Later, Jessica was too busy with life to care about what that cold-blooded man did.

Then, more than two years ago, Jessica returned to the country. Although she stayed in touch with Cynthia, she didn't know what happened between Cynthia and Jimmy afterward.

Until Cynthia came to Xyleria.

But in the past few months, Jessica had never heard Cynthia mention Jimmy.

"What are you standing there for? Get in the car," Cynthia said, starting the engine and glancing at her.

Jessica quickly walked around the car and got into the passenger seat.

"Address," Cynthia said.

Jessica took out her phone, searched for the location the crew had given her, and placed the phone in front of Cynthia for navigation.

As the car hit the road, Cynthia remained silent.

Jessica didn't have to drive, and she had slept well last night, so she wasn't tired. With nothing else to do, she turned to Cynthia and asked, "You wouldn't take a leave for no reason. Why did you come to be my bodyguard?"

Cynthia glanced at the navigation on the phone, then looked ahead and said while driving, "Mr. Harriman asked me to stay with you for the next few days to ensure your safety."

As expected.

The only person who could command Cynthia was probably Gabriel.

Who knew how powerful he was back in the M Country to earn such loyalty from Cynthia?

"Is he worried I'll encounter extreme fans? The company and studio have already arranged bodyguards for me."

Those bodyguards usually wait in the car while you film or protect you on set. They can't follow you home or stay with you all the time. Mr. Harriman must have his reasons for this arrangement. Besides, I'm not busy lately, and the boss did give me this vacation as a reward."

"Then your reward isn't worth it. You have to be my bodyguard and driver during your vacation. What kind of meals should I treat you to in return?" Jessica couldn't help but laugh.

"Just let me pinch Danielle's cheeks more often."

Jessica pretended to ponder seriously for a long time, then raised an eyebrow, "Alright, I'll sell out my daughter this once. You can pinch her cheeks as much as you want when you see her."

Far away in kindergarten, Danielle suddenly sneezed loudly, scattering the pieces of tissue paper that a mischievous child across from her was tearing up like snowflakes. The child cried out in frustration.

When they arrived at the set, the crew had already arranged a trailer for Jessica, parked in front of a nearby mall.

They were filming a few scenes in this newly opened mall today. Although some areas were cordoned off, new regulations prevented the crew from completely blocking any place, leaving some safety passages and gaps for others to pass through.

Jessica was used to driving to the set and didn't need Mackenzie and Zoey to pick her up.

As soon as the car stopped nearby, Cynthia got out first and noticed two people without crew badges entering through a gap in the cordon. They were wearing black hoodies under their jackets, with their hoods up, and were glancing suspiciously in the direction of Jessica's trailer.

Cynthia gave them a brief look, then heard Jessica closing the car door. She walked over and subtly pulled Jessica to her other side, saying, "Are you going to the trailer to get your makeup done? You go in first, I'll wait outside."

"It's so cold outside, why don't you come in?" Jessica said, noticing Cynthia's unusually cold expression and instinctively turning to that direction.
